mercoutlaw
My friend, I am a dedicated Mercenary! Welcome to the boards and the game, I love it here, I love the game and I am sure you will as well. Despite what you may think, the free form doctrine is very useful and a great deal of fun. I do love to win, but losing while having fun is also not so bad!
Sergeant_Crunch
Well, one thing you saw last weekend was that infantry without transport of some sort get left behind real quick. So unless you plan to drop them from orbit or keep them close to where they deploy, you'll want some transportation for them.
Forlorn Hope
Well, one thing you saw last weekend was that infantry without transport of some sort get left behind real quick. So unless you plan to drop them from orbit or keep them close to where they deploy, you'll want some transportation for them. Yessir - infantry w/out transportation seem to be a frustrating prospect. It seems from last game like two rifles stands in a transport with satchels is a good way to go, as long as you can make contact (why I chose Lynxes - nice and fast. For now, this is the main reason why I have not considered armored rifle teams - I like for two stands to fit into my Lynxes, and with the Bulky SA I could only get one in. My Armored mortar teams seem to be just fine staying put, but besides this it seems like some kind of transport is necessary. I guess the SA where they appear outside of 12" (forgot the name) seemed to work well the time SGT. Crunch uised it against me, but even then I almost feel like the infantry could be outrun if there was some good terrain to hide behind. I have thought about jump packs, and armored rifle teams, which would, I think, make their MOV 6", but even this is pretty slow unless they have another way to initially get close. merlonc
I have been out for about a year and am just starting back I have a Terran army and really liked it, but want to develop my own merc force and background. So I have begun planning the Star Risk Ltd mercenary force. More to come later as my evil mind mulls over where to start.

Cool Merlonc, Some of us out here in West Texas have been developing Mercs as well. So far I have been playing the Forlorn Hope Private Military Contractors against Sergeant Crunch (who plays both mercs and RACH) in San Angelo, and in Big Spring Basilhare and Applejuicefool have been playing Legacy and the Blackjacks against another guy who (I don't think) is on the forum. We have been talking, actually, about some kind of West Texas large CAV day, maybe using San Angelo as a central place to meet if we get gamers from central Texas as well. Let me know if Star Risk Ltd. might be up for some travel...

I am currently living in Coppell, but am from Odessa and lived in Big Spring back when the Airbase was still there. Could be interesting. merlonc
At reapercon I picked enough for the first incarnation of Star Risk mercenary company. It will be Mech Rifle: 6 rifle teams, 6 AT-23, 2 satchel charges, 2 Tsukai Specialist: 2 chieftain fire support: Conqueror, Bishop, Spider, Spider Air mine field. NickT
Hi all, I'm forming my Task Force, The Doombunny Militia. I have some questions. 1) I love my Bishop (everyone has one CAV they love regardless of stats) but I see a lot of folks don't field them, what's the weakness that drives this? 2) I'm going to be purchasing transports for my infantry (they are so..very...Slow), any suggestions for a poor college student. 3) I need Air support, again what units do you guys think overall work best? NickT
Wow, I suppose it'd help if I list what else I'm fielding: Currently: (all are Open Market) 1 Rhino 1 Dictator 60 1 Puma 1 Spector 1 Bishop 2 Spiders 1 Sabre 1 Blitz 3 Infantry (Type varies with situation, still working it) -May be ordering a Sabretooth -Seeking an Assassin (but my FLGS says his distributers are out.) outek
Is your unit symbol a small furry bunny with sharp fangy teeth? On topic. 1. Not sure about the Bishop, as the Terrans are not lacking in that role. 2. Based on cost, I would suggest Centipedes or Tsukais (ground transports). For air transports, Fenris or Lynxs (non true-scale). Others I would suggest for air: Merlin (Terran, true-scale), Czar (true-scale), Fenri (true-scale), Badger (both scales). 3. Tsuisekis and Kikyus (both scales), Dragonfly and/or Longbow. You might want to pick up some Stilettos (open-market, recon, 3x per blister) to go with the Sabre. Other possible suggestions: Falcon, Talon, Spartan, Knight, Despot, Dictator '60. Depends on preference and play style.

Looks good. If you want to save money on your transportation you might consider going with the smaller scale transports. Concerning the Assassin, ask you store if their distributor is Alliance. If it is you're out of luck getting the model that way and need to get it somewhere else. Alliance hasn't restocked the Assassin for at least 2 years (that was when I tried to order it through my local store that uses Alliance) Concerning the Bishop, I don't see a reason to not like it. It's cheap, with FRS/3 and a CFP. Seems like a prime candidate for directing the IFM fire of the non-support CAVs in the section. Especially with the new indirect salvo rules. For true cost savings on transport try drop droops, I prefer this over transports as my infantry are shooty and don't try for assault. I can drop them where it does the most good. I like the Bishop, its only downside is its DA guns are not AA s it needs air defense from some other unit. My open market fire support section is Bishop, Spider, Spider, Conqueror. Nope, my symbol is a little black cartoon bunny with yellow eyes an' a big skull on it's side. It has been, amoungst other things, my Crest since Armored Core 1 came out. It also played a crucial part in me slightly unhinging a college professor. Back on topic, thanks for the info, especialy about Stilettos (I do love multipacks) and the look like Sudan Cars, Thanks1
