BunnyPuncher
My painting of OOP Chainmail models for one of my clients goes on. This guy was fun to paint, but damn I wish I had of painted his vest black/grey rather than brown. Cheers.
Hexxenhammer
That's awesome. I love this guy. He's freakin' huge. And he was great in the game too. *sniff*
Moderator TaleSpinner Posted October 26, 2005 Moderator Share Posted October 26, 2005 WOW!! Very nice job. I love the skin tones and the metal on the sheild is awesome. I can't tell if it is NMM or well executed metalics or somewhere in between; it just looks like steel. Nicely done. TS

I try however use alot of NMM theory when doing metallics (color gradation) but I'm not in any way ready to abandon metallic paints. I think its a combination of a) me being a stubborn fool, b) I like metallics because I like ink washing them, c) there is no one in my area to give me a "hands on" NMM tutorial, and d) fear :) He was fun to paint this big lug even if I did drop him half a dozen times while painting him (I painted him at my local FLGS during a painting tutorial for the kiddies and didn't have the usual stuff to hold him with). Krztoff
Beautiful! The darker vest might have been nice, but it still rocks. I hope my chainmail ogres come out half as nice! How tall exactly is this one? I heard the ogre mercenary is a lot bigger than the ogre delver and the ogre trooper.
Hexxenhammer
He's quite a bit bigger, yes. Just a guess without them in front of me, but he's probably more than an inch taller than the orge trooper. Compare to the base size.
BunnyPuncher
He's almost as big as he is in the pictures, the top one on the right is pretty close to RL size. He's tall, and his wingspan when you include the axe is huge. Likely the reason the hilighting on this guy looks so good in the pictures - there's no pic blowup to show you whether or not my highlighting and layering is smooth or not lol ::D: EDIT: Assuming your monitor res is the same as mine *sigh* I'm kind of dumb some times - 1024x768 - 17" monitor. dumb dumb dumb lol Oh.. and if you feel up to it, give him a vote at my CMON gallery :P (You can also see my historical progress as a painter - I'm getting better and its 99% due to these forums imho - Most people here are so much better it is inspiring!) http://www.coolminiornot.com/browse/submitter/BunnyPuncher
Orsino
This sculpt is much better than anything Chainmail has a right to be. You've painted him beautifully.
BunnyPuncher
This sculpt is much better than anything Chainmail has a right to be. You've painted him beutifully. Thanks! Chainmail was so hit & miss it was silly. It was unfortunate that they never got their sh-tuff together because some of the large figs are some of my favorite large monsters that are out there (Ettin Trooper, Ogre Merc, Another Ogre with multi-headed flail) Anyone know how one would find out who sculpted which minis for Chainmail, its tough to tell from the photos how the sculpts are (I thought the photo on the back of the Ogre Mercenary box looked terrible for example) and I'd like to pick up some more of the nice stuff. Hexxenhammer
Well, a lot of the Drazen and Naresh stuff was done by Jason Weibe and Ben Siens. We all know how good they are. Other Drazen stuff was done by Mike McVey who now does Warmachine (I think he still does anyway). If you can find a website with all the datacard pictures, those listed the sculptors. Frankthedm
Very good troll mercenary [3E ogres looked like trolls IMO]. That leathery skin looks like it was tanned while still on the monster. Black leather would have added to the contrast of the fig, a lighter wood colour would have done likewise for the axe handle.

Thanks. I thought about doing the handle a lighter color, but I let "reality" influence my color choice. In the "Real World" the only wood I could think of that would hold that axe head and be useful in combat would be an oak. The "bark" is still on the tree so I went with what I remembered of oak trees :) But from a visual point of view I think you are absolutely correct. Part of my pay for this guy was a second ogre merc. model still in the orig. packaging. When I paint up that bad boy I'm going to do his vest dark grey / black and his Axe handle in a lighter (ash perhaps) wood. So if you guys have any more suggestions for improvements let me know, as I'll bookmark this page and use it for next time around.
Frankthedm
keep this awsome skin tone, or try a trollish green. I am not too sure what else to do unless you want gore-tastic. Change some of the warts into boils, including some that are popped [his momma never told him better] and leaking pus, using inks and clear gloss to make fluid. Have a cleaved human on the base [its foot in the entrails] and use some clear red on the axe and the figures front for blood splatter. take a bit of coated wire, pull wire out of coating, attach to the troll's mouth and paint as a intestine being nibbled on. BBFN, lunch time!
haldir
nice look to this guy yah chainmail minis were great in some ways but terrible in others, the elves while some are pretty cool, were 2D in sculpts, the bard one almost slides through the tab it goes in ha ha, but the gnolls are all great as are most of the nonhumans. The humans while being made for the game, didn't have enough of a generic look to them to be able to use them in a generic setting (didn't help they had that woman's face for a symbol on most of them) not to mentio nteh femal paladin is one of the ugliest facial minis out there, ughhh. Paul Mueller I think did the elves, but yah alot of guys that have sculpts with Reaper are the same in the chainmail line (dire boar is a great example) RM
