Enchantra
Sandra Garrity all the way. Its odd, I can spot minis she has done on the wall in thier packaging in among the hundreds of other minis without even trying. I paint other minis besides hers, but her sculpts seem to be intricately detailed and I love them.
NymMoondown
I think it all depends on how you paint. I like Werner Klocke because I'm still learning some of the most basic techniques. I prefer to paint his minis because he does a good job with making sharp cheek bones.garrity has some minis which I think are horrible, but she has enough that are cool so I don't mind. Lady Tam
Sandra Garrity. With out a doubt. I just got some minis in today, by a different company, that she did. A unicirn mare and foal, and a Pegasus mare and foal. And they ROCK! Will probably buy one, if not two, more of the unicorn mare and foal, as I will be giving one of the mares a sex change! Will make an awesome black unicorn stallion in that pose. I absolutely adore her work! (And now I have quite the unicorn herd going! Hehehe! :D ) I don't care what company puts it out I will usually buy her stuff. My poor, poor pocket book! Lady Tam
JohnXC
Of Reaper's sculptors, Bobby Jackson and Jason Weibe. The former for his dynamic characters, the latter for his really neat monsters. Outside of Reaper? Mark Copplestone is, for my money, the best miniature sculptor around. Clean, crisp details, dynamic positionings, and interesting subject matter. http://www.gisby.org/copplestone.htm ...is his page, with links to all of his lines. And then there's the Perry Brothers, who have done work for GW and Wargames Foundry. Again, wonderful figures -- I believe that they are responsible for the entirety of the LOTR line. I really feel that it's admirable that Reaper makes such a point of giving their sculptors proper credit, and wish that other companies would do the same. natedaw
I will have to agree with Steven on the first page. All the scupltors at Reaper have done outstanding work. I send E-mail into the company anytime one in particular actually made me genuinely made me stop to look and smile.
scowling
Favourite sculptor of human-types: Werner Klocke Favourite sculptor of monster-types: Jason Wiebe Favourite dragon sculptor: Sandra Garrity Overall, my fave would have to be Klocke, edging out Wiebe by a nose. I don't like Garrity's human-types very much at all; the faces are too small and too proportional to the rest of the model. I like disproportionate heads that beg for painting attention. The Perry Twins (Games Workshop, Foundry, etc.) are my second-favourite sculptors of human-types, and Chris Tubb (Mithril) is a close third. There are many other sculptors whose work I seek out. Mark Copplestone was mentioned earlier; I really like his stuff. I frighten the folks at the FLGS when I can point at a figure and say "X sculpted that; I like his work." :) And, as I've said before, Dennis Mize is my least favourite sculptor. I'd rather that Reaper (and any other company he sculpts for) not cast a figure at all than dilute their reputation for quality by contracting Mize. I will agree that Mize's skills have improved since his absolutely terrible work for Partha, but that's damning with faint praise, like saying a pres-schooler's finger-painting is getting better. Madzerker
I really like Jim Johnson's style alot myself for humans, although Werner Klocke is great as well. For non Reaper employees I really like Mark Copplestone, and Scott Fitzpatrick (gw dark elves and Aegyptus minis). I think that the rest of Reaper's staff does real well as well, Bobby Jackson wowed me with the templar. Sandra Garrity is a love hate relationship with me, I love ALOT of her stuff, but hate how all the women have the same 1980's hairdo, they dont look like warriors but like and 80's fashion model. Don't get me wrong, other stuff of hers is astoundingly good imo. The only sculpter that I hate is Tim Prow who used to sculpt for Heartbreaker and a lil of Ralpartha recent crucible stuff, that guy had to sculpt with a trowel!! If you dont believe me look at some of the original Warzone Brotherhood models...
Decado
I have to stick with Klocke as my favorite. I just finished #2573 Yvonne, Warmaiden and she came out very well. I am now working on #2661 Dern Ironfist and I very, very pleased with the results so far. So pleased in fact I am thinking of buying another one to convert into the hill dwarf cleric who is an NPC in my online campaign. I am looking forward to painting Klocke's other two dwarves and hope he sculpts some more. Decado
Lars Porsenna
And then there's the Perry Brothers, who have done work for GW and Wargames Foundry. Again, wonderful figures -- I believe that they are responsible for the entirety of the LOTR line. I've been a long time Perry Bros fan, though I dislike Foundry for a variety of reasons (the historicals version of Citadel). That being said they started their own minis line (http://www.perry-miniatures.com/) which is a little on the small side but otherwise spectacular! Note that one of them (can't remember which) sculpts with only ONE HAND (he lost the other when re-enacting the 100 years War in France...the bombard he was working prematurely discharged while ramming a charge IIRC)! My favorite fantasy sculpter has always been Sandra Garrity. The quality of the sculpts, but especially the character of the faces, really does it for me... Damon. Reaper User Talin Posted May 9, 2003 Reaper User Share Posted May 9, 2003 It would be difficult to pick a favorite sculptor, having worked in proximity to all of their work (both hit and miss). If they are really enjoying working on a piece, it definitely shows, and likewise for the opposite. So, I guess for most consistent "hits"... Hmmm... My current favorite is Herr Klocke. Although I still feel guilty every time he has to work from one of my sketches... ...actually, apply that to any of the sculptors that do work for Reaper... And I have to admit that Bobby Jackson has really blown my socks off recently. He has made such colossal strides forward skill-wise over the last year, I can't help but be impressed. SKETCHES!!!!! I highly doubt any one who has seen any of your "sketches" (unless maybe Monet has seen your "sketches") would be able to point out anything that would make you feel "guilty". You really need to get some more self esteem. I'm sure Klocke feels pretty hot around the gills whenever he has to sculpt from one of your "Sketches". Falgrim
I'd have to say it's a tie between Sandra GArrity and Werner Klocke, but it's real close. And the other sculptors aren't far behind them in my view. Reaper sculptors have so impressed me I buy their minis #### near exclusively...as it should be. Kudos to all of the Reaper staff!!! :D
