Turhan
Well, I finished a couple wizards and figured I'd toss out the pics. I'm not too happy with my paint (still). It always seems too dry, patchy and gritty, with clumps- no matter how much I thin with water or with flow-aid. I experimented with Valdaryn to see if I could get a super highlighted (think sunlight on silk) cloak. That is, the deep blue in the folds but near white in the hightlights. Went overboard I think- needs more mid-tones.... I'm happier with Lamann but still wondering what I could do to make his 'blacks' come out better. The white cowl around his neck came out a bit funky, but I was tired and didn't want to re-do it. Thanks for any feedback.
Lithian
That guy on top looks like Rasputin! (sp?) I really like the extreme highlighting on both, very nice. Later
Evilbob
I like them. The trim on the 1st one is really nice. I really like the white cowl/sashes on the second one (inc. the writing). Bravo
tabascojunkie
On Valdaryn I really like the ends of the sleeves and the parts of the robes over his chest. Sorry I can't for the life of me remember the names for those. And yeah, definitely more midtones and layers on the blue. It just kinda looks like blue and white stripes now. You could also try a really thin glaze of blue over the layers to smooth out the transitions a liitle. Overall, very sharp.
Mocar von Zargon
That second one reminds me of Zasalamel from Soul Calibur 3.
Rastl
I agree that the first one needs a bit 'more' to make the effect you want on the robe. And I also agree that bringing more of the blue in and leaving the highlight white might just do it. If you're looking to see how silk/satin responds to light might I suggest here. Lots of colors and they're nice enough to drape the fabric to show how it reflects the light.

Great linkey-poo Rastl I really like them overall they're nicely done I especially like the green tunic on the first one very natural..What paints are you using?.. if your having problems are you shaking them enuf ? If they're MPS or vallejo you really have to shake alot I'm with the crowd though on softning the color exchanges. To quote (non-verbatium) the great Reaper paint mistress (Anne) your midtone should be 50% and highlights and shadows 25% each for a realistic look..The best way to get the look you want is to hold the figure up under an overhead lamp and watch where the light hits and how strong it hits and go from there and "fudge" the rest and remember light also reflects off the ground. Keep posting it's been fun watching you progress each mini is better than the last.
Turhan
Thank you all for the kind words. Thanks for the fabric link Rastl. BattleM.M., The paint I use is almost all Reaper regular now. I replaced all but a few colors last year. The two posted mini's use all Reaper paints except on the staves which I used some even older Armory thorobred brown and a mid-brown from Polly S. Oh yeah, I used some odd, mix of yellows and oranges on the little fire dragon in Valdaryn's hand. I usually shake the paint for 10-15 seconds and yeah, I sometimes find that the old stuff has settled to sludge. I often just add a few drops of water to the bottle and shake again. Maybe that's the problem- I've thinned the paints a bit over the past year and not stirred them up enough to keep it all blended. I think maybe it's time to re-read the painting tips too. I seem to recall a year or two back that they were pretty interesting. And as far as I'm concerned, whatever Ann says, goes. (50 and 25, 50 and 25, gotta repeat the mantra.) Oh yeah, I always use a palette now adays and mix a few drops at a time, and no painting straight from the pot. It'll be a while before I post some more new stuff as I'm working on a fairly large (12"x12") inn right now and time is at a premium again. I may be able to shoot some old stuff and post (a few are good enough to show here). thanks again all,
Prophet
I love the robe on the first one, it simply looks awesome. Prophet
Rastl
Great linkey-poo Rastl Hey, when it comes to fabric stuff I've got links coming out of my .. Ummmm... I've got lots of links. I've been designing and making historical costumes for far longer than I want to admit *coughcoughdecadescough* so fabric is something that I know. The site I linked is also way cool for their design wall feature. Put a few items in your shopping cart (you can always empty it later) and then you can use the design wall to see how they look together. Very handy for comparing different textures as well as colors. Back to the subject at hand, the wizards. I agree that the green tunic is just fabu. That kind of blending/shading on the cloak would make the figure really awesome instead of just way spiffy cool.
Namerfrats
Very nice! Extremely well detailed, I've actually got the guy on the bottom, just haven't started on him yet.
kodiak
on the first one, the fire looks very nice and so does his book, but just a little thing I noticed, the highlights on his blue and white cloak look a little sudden, it goes from darkish blue to white a little too quickly but who am I talk
