hater dave
I finally got some new minis this past weekend (all Reaper baby) and when cleaning and priming them I was suprised to see the Astral Mauler has a tusk? mouth peice? whatever it is that needs to be attached. I was just wondering why since the other two are scuptled on there just fine. I tried gluing it on 3 different times with no luck but I will find a way eventually. I was just curious if this is only on certain scuplts of the Mauler or if all of them come this way?
Dragon Snack
I assume they all come from one master mold, so they all come that way. The third tusk is probably separate to allow it to come out of the mold easier or at least to keep it from destroying the mold. Yes, it is a pain to put on. It's just a little too small. I just did 3 of them and only one stayed on first try.
Sergeant_Crunch
Is there enough bulk to try pinning it?
tabascojunkie
I had trouble gluing mine the other day too. I finally got it with gap filling super glue.
haldir
I had no problem with mine, no gaps went in great, just a drop of superglue on the tusk & some super glue accelerator on the body & BAM as Emeril would say. RM
Reaperbryan
The astral Mauler is one of many products that is manufactured in more than 1 piece. Were we to make it with all 3 mandibles attached, it would be very difficult to remove from the mold, and destroy the mold after a few dozen removal attempts. To prolong the utility of the mold and ensure a higher quality final product, we removed one mandible. We reccomend Gap-filling Cyanoacrylate (Super Glue) - not all types of Super Glue are Gap Filling. Alternatively, there are several quick 2 part epoxies, such as JB Qwik that some swear by. hater dave
Ahh, that makes sense Thank you I do love this mini!
ldshield
Is the Astral Mauler supposed to stand in for a particular D&D monster? There are several situations where the game has (to use a hypothetical example) a monster named the Electric Weasel, and Reaper produces a miniature of something called the Energised Ferret which is similar but not identical. I assume this is to avoid copyright violations (Wizards of the Coast can't complain- they have halflings instead of hobbits for the same reason). I couldn't see what the Astral Mauler might be a substitute for, though; any ideas?
Heisler
You resurrected a truly ancient thread here. I would suggest watching the movie “Tremors” for ideas.

The Astral Mauler is actually a 2nd interpretation for a mini that Reaper made that was too close to an official WoTC monster release. The AM is a beefier version of that creature. Thus, is skirts the IP violation. I have the original mini that Reaper made, but where I have no idea. & I just realized my previous post in this thread is close to 15 years old......
