Redfeild
I had bee buying Reaper miniatures for a while. I simply love the miniatures. The first I bought from the Warlord line was the pack of three Orcs. Still have only painted a Vampire from Warlord so far. She looks pretty good. Well one day I'm in my FLaGS and I find a Warlord rule book. Funny thing is, I did not know Warlord miniatures where for a game. I thought they were some sort of speacle edition set or another. Well I bought the book, read it page to page, and I liked it. Still have not played but it looks like Darkspawn will be my army. The Lesser Demon Sargent sold me. She is going to be fun to paint. My secondary army is going to be Crusaders. I think the Hound of Judgment will be the next Warlord miniature I will paint. So how did you get into Watlord? Brushmaster
I first got interested in Warlord back when it was being beta tested , then one day at a convention I noticed a deluxe starter box for sale going really cheap , and well its snowballed from there ! LACK OF SUBTLETY
Truthfully it was the miniatures for me. I was playing my other miniatures game at my LGS and got to looking at the very awesome Warlord miniatures and just really wanted to build an army out of them. Plus my LGS owner was one of the playtesters for Warlord and kept telling me how good the sytem was. The breaking point was when one of my friends decieded to get rid of his Overlords and just gave them to me, giving me a great head start on an army. It has just snowballed from there. jhilahd
Patrick Haughton aka Mad Pat. Pat(when he plays) is a regular in my gaming group. He showed me the beta book along time ago. He was excited and I was ..eh. Another mini game. great. I was trying to get a Warmachine game going at the time, and he convinced me to come up to Denton and try out a demo. I did. I took my 9yr old and he and I played at the Asylum. I was hooked. He was hooked. I picked up the rules at a game store later that week. And now... I'm trying to paint, my armies, his armies, and soon(as she gets them) my daughter's army. Oy. I did however get my Reven starter set this week. W00t!! mughzee
I was beta testing CAV, A guy at the store was Demoing Warlord..and at the core of it we both wanted anything other than GW....Warlord filled that niche and its a great game to boot. Naterstein
I wanted to get back into painting minis after a 10 year break (in hindsight, I should have never stopped) and after doing some research, I found Reaper provided good-to-excellent mini's to restart with. I was intrigued by Warlord, thinking it was just one of their miniature lines. Shorty there after I was told it was an actual game (I was looking at Mordheim for a game at the time) so I did more research and it just seemed to be a good fit for me. Most of the miniatures are great sculpts and the rules for the game werent overwhelming, a perfect fit. Now I just hope I can convince my friend to start playing. Maybe then we could get into Black Lightning to spread Warlord's influence here (5 players ,according to Reapergames, in my area.) Warmachine and WH40K seem to be most popular here. Kelcore
*points @ Lord Baasen* Him. Before that, I just thought the minis were uber-sweet and was thrilled at the prospect of non-broccoli-based minis.
ixminis
Saw the Warlord figures when they were first released... Thought it was a new line working at being a bit darker than DHL/DHA... I think that Coalshadow was my first commission of Warlord stuff... When I started painting for Reaper I saw Ed's skellies lined up after a playtest session in the Lewisville conference room... Cool... then as I heard more & more about it & got to peak at some early rules I figured I'd like it plenty fine. Being a fan of combined arms, playing it once or twice convinced me!!! Hehe: I'm basically in exactly the same boat though my hiatus has been 10+ years (I forget how long). I decided that I wanted something to paint, and the Warlord Reven line seemed to be a good place to start since I figured that if I ever get back to playing D&D face to face, I could always use the Reven minis in my game. Now that I have the rules, I'm also hoping to get into actually playing Warlord every now and again once I get an initial company painted (which may be quite a while given my available time and the apparent dearth of Warlord players in the Houston area). Steven Page
I'm an old hand at fantasy gaming, having played the original TSR Cainmail back in the 1970's. I played 1e and 2e Warhammer, drifted away to historical for about twelve years(no fantasy opponents), then got back into D&D. I started with four Reaper minis for our party. Soon, I bought Dark Heaven Apocalypse(good game, for the most part). A player in our group got WOTC Chainmail(gaming equivalent of a root canal). I tried Mordheim, and liked the scale and campaign possibilities. I was still using mostly Reapers in it....Then came the chance to do Closed Beta testing for Warlord. The first night, I knew this was the best system I had ever played for skirmish games. It does everything Mordheim does, with less dice rolling, and at a faster pace. There is more freedom of army construction, as well. That was May 2003. Several hundred games later, it still is. Stubbdog
Easy. Seeing the miniatures... There is a long long story to go with it, but it all boils down to seeing the miniatures and instant cravings came on.
Qwyksilver
I started buying Warlord figures for the sculpts and using them for role playing, and was already amassing a fairly large collection of them. Then I found out there was a game attached (more justification to buy figures) and I met the Storm Family. I never stood a chance after that I've been playing since the 1st printing book was first available. Warlord was my first miniature game. The closest to miniature wargaming I had before it was Chess and Axis and Allies.
