ReaperShaun
Yeah. I agree with C8. What chris did at Nukecon (usesing 10 lt inf. hv mortar as a rifle platoon) was very effective. However there was no way I could get near enough to them to do them harm. They were 150" away from my table edge and I would have had to blast through (or over) the remaining 8k of his armored units to get to them. They avoided drift on 10s and wounded on 10s. he had ten of them so they hit 10% of the time from edge to edge. It got worse as I got nearer the center of the table. The absolute worst though was the opening 3 rounds of the game. I would estimate that 75% of my force was hit by mortars in the first few rounds. 9K of units dont stack nicely in a deployment zone (even if it is 8' wide). Every single mortar hit something even if it drifted. IMO that is what the game designers are trying to avoid when they made up the dedicated mortar platoons. Spartan6
But ya hafta admit.. It DID look pretty awesome, all that high angle hell goodness raining down. SIIIIIGHHH The bottom line is Shaun and I found a sort of loop hole in the game and Matt said he'd fix it. Force flexibility or not a mortar platoon is not a rifle platoon.
