Other than a recon unit or two,it'll be all Grundor and Mark IV units. My big decision right is what final 2 CAVs to acquire to fill out out my army. I'm leaning towards a Wight, mostly 'cause I don't own one,but after that it's a crap shoot. I currently own the following Malvernis CAVs:

Revenant

Butcher

Spectre

Wraith

2 Assassins

2 Thugs

2 Ghosts

I'm leaning towards either a Spectre or a Butcher.

another wight? They're really good in this build. I'd wait till we get the final datacards though. If the release truly is only half a month away then waiting would be the way to go.

Personally I'm following the scheme of getting two of each MkIV and GH cav available. I've found that this gives me alot of freedom in constructing an armored section.

I'm also becomming a huge Assassin fan seeing how much punishment they can take in games.

Ditto on the Assassin.

I think I'll be following your advice about the Wights. I also need to fill out my armor/transport a bit. Another pair of Hedgehogs,Nomads,Outlaws and Poltergeists +a Banshee and an OEM will probably be what I purchase.

My recon CAVs will likely be a Spartan,Raptor,Khan and/or Talon.

How are the ghosts working for your? I'm kinda split about adding a dedicated soft hunter, since the Thug can do the same work and still be effective against hard targets.

Also has anyone given wraiths a spin in the new version of the game? They're really cheap and have good guns, but look rather fragile.

Heh. I bought them because they were being discounted at another online shop(along with every other CAV;part of my great CAV Christmas order of 2005) . I was(and do)going to use them for my Btech/BForce games as well as play CAV.

They're a bit faster and a bit better against soft targets than the Thug. If I had to do it over again,I'd have bought another Spectre instead maybe. But I was beyond new to CAV then(still a newbie in just about every way)so WTH : :bday:

Haven't used the Wraith in CAV 2(Beta?) yet. School, work and other itches get in the way.

Let me also say this: No Lich=::(:

Have you guys looked at the faction doctrines yet? Not really sure what to do with them. The conscript on for instance doesn't seem worthwhile at all. I mean how often will you bring more than 1 or 2 infantry or mechanized sections?

The HoK doctrine, while lethal requires that I sacrifice a CAV (since the have lots of weapon systems and benifit from HoK). When I can repair twice (possibly with Rugged) this doesn't seem like a very good alternative at all.

Right now I'm stuck getting 1 or 2 free rifle sections in my armies. How I would kill for extended ECM ranges or berzerker infantry. Am I just being silly and not seeing the awesomeness of our doctrines?

Well, the way I see conscription is an extra +1 support for close combat or an extra piercing or shredder missile attack.

HoK, main difference is that each weapon is rolled separately giving a possibility of 3 to 4 points of damage (no counting chances for critical hits) depending on how many attacks said model has. Well, that and the whole removing the attacking model from play thing. I'd say use it with a model that's close to dying anyway to take out a larger model that's taken a couple of hits.

I definitely see the use of the conscription doctrine, it's just that in all the test builds I've done it's only given me 1 or 2 extra rifle teams. Compare that to the templar ability of getting 10% for upgrades, and the conscription doctrine looks truly sucky. It gets you (in my builds) closer to 5% worth of the total force in extra infantry.

The HoK I'll have to try out a bit. I'm still not convinced I'll use it even if my model is about to die. I mean the alternative is to repair twice. I have alot of models with Rugged, so that could potentially restore the CAV to almost undamaged condition.

I've never been one for suicide bombers but I suppose that there are situations where it could be employed with success. If you haven't seen it yet, the other beta thread shows that the bonus numbers for salvo strike are insane, so with HoK, you're almost guaranteed to hit.

One thing you can try is find a cheap fast vehicle with a couple weapons and a high pierce value, run it up unload HoK on a target, and finish it off before it can repair. Or alternatively run it up (reason I say that is to get the benefit of the point blank modifier though it's not necessary) to a damaged target and kill it. The Tsuiseki comes to mind though it's not necessarily fast it has long range bands and would give a +8, +9 at point blank.

Yeah if Salvo Strike truly functions like Chrome says it does HoK is GOOD!!!!

I don't see myself chosing the conscription doctrine over HoK anytime soon

Also the Ghast looks alot better now with the new interpretation of the Salvo Fire action

I don't know. At the very least I want the free model to be equivalent to what the rest of the section is. I mean how bad does it suck to get a free Rifle team in my all power armored jet pack infantry squad?

I don't know what it will take, but as long as that doctrine represents 87-174 points in even 3000-4000 point games I'm picking HoK instead.

I have a hard time justifying more than 1 infantry section in a 3000 point game, even with the added free model. The fact is that unless I want to be stuck with vanilla rifle teams without transport (which would be useless in most scenarios) a section costs as a minimum 700-800 point. This means if I want to get value for my doctrine I need to build a force almost solely composed of infantry. Not fun in a combined arms game. I don't like that doctrine.

I think for me to consider it as an alternative I'd need to get 2 teams instead of the one, or turn it into a rule where you get the cheapest model in any infantry section for free. Including upgrades. That would make alot more sense to me.

I think I like the idea of getting the cheapest model in the section for free.
