ladystorm
thanks for the reminder. I did recycle my brake fluid, I was being good. This is why I prefer the more envionmentally friendly methods. cbs
Lord_Ironheart
OK, here it goes. Words from the master. I cannot stress this highly enough, so pay attention. I use a product from 3M called "Safest Strip". It works wonderfully. As a major bonus, it is totally NON-TOXIC! Simply apply with a toothbrush (it is a hand-cream consistency), let soak for at least 30 minutes in a sealed, airtight container, then scrub with a toothbrush (I use the cleaner brush from an M-16 cleaning kit. It's stiffer and tougher). After the scrubbing, rinse with hot water, scrub again, rinse again. Repeat until the mini looks clean, then spray with Simple Green and scrub again, repeat. Rinse well with hot water. I've been using this stuff for years, and have never had a problem. I have even managed to use it on plastics, but one MUST be careful just in case, as it may effect different plastic formulas in different ways. The soft "toy soldier" plastic used for the MK figs will react differently to it (and other chemicals) than would, say, the polystyrene used for plastic models. There, a chem lesson and lesson on strippin yer minis, all in one! *smiles beatifically as folks benefit from his 14+ years of experience* Any questions? Ask away! ladystorm
and one would find this where? craft store? paint store? I'll try it if I can find it, any help will be appreciated. cbs
Lord_Ironheart
You can get it at (usually) KMArt, Meijers (for those of us in Michigan), possibly Target, maybe hardware stores. Call around and ask, because it is very worthwhile to use.
lstormhammer
Where can I get a cleaning brush from an M-16? (aside from signing the little papers with the Marine Recruiter in the strip mall across the street from my house?) --and you gotta admit, it's cool to say 'I used the cleaning brush from an M-16!' --lstormhammer
ladystorm
probably at any store that sells guns, and or gun supplies. In my mispent youth, we bought a gun cleaning kit at a military surplus store. might want to try a bottle cleaning brush, look in the baby aisle next time you're at the grocery market, they come in two sizes big and little, I'm refering to the little. thanks for the advise on where to find the cleaner, Ironheart, now to shop, shop, shop. cbs
Dwr_Budr
Where can I get a cleaning brush from an M-16? (aside from signing the little papers with the Marine Recruiter in the strip mall across the street from my house?) You could always try to beat up some marines and take theirs... :D
Lord_Ironheart
You can try at a gun shop, surplus store, or, better idea, ask anyone you know who is enlisted! Have 'em send you a brush or two. Those GI toothbrushes come in real handy!
Michael-TLH
There's a chemical that a friend of mine gets... I'll re-post when i find out what it is (might be acetone)... It works in about five minutes of agitation (i.e. swirling) and best of all: it harmlessly evaporates in air (so work in a well-ventilated space). Maybe it is acetone? I've only used it once. Michael-TLH
Okay... it was acetone. Worked well. Also tried the brake fluid this morning and it also worked good. Although I didn't like handling it. From now on I'll just buy a new mini.
sdnelson
The cleaning brush from an AR-15 should suffice. The AR-15 is the civilian version of the M-16 (it won't shoot more than one bullet at a time). Otherwise it's pretty much the same rifle. lstormhammer
As for beating up Marines.... mmmmno. As for buying them cheap booze and letting them pass out. /then/ taking their cleaning rod. Sure! (my brother was in the service, and they drink the nastiest stuff). As for the Ar-15 being the M-16. I am well aware. MOre of my misspent youth was playing Cyberpunk 2020 and other gun-heavy games. (I always wanted to get into a Millenium's End game. Mmm, Clancy at his best.) --lstormhammer
Smokin'
If you're wanting to clean plastic mini's do you need to use the cleaning brush from an SA-80? - 'bout time I started being a smart-alec.
Willyard Cavanaugh
I used simply green for the first time last night. Paint came off very well even off the hard plastic minis I let the kids paint. *note to self* kids use WAY too much paint
ladystorm
Don't they? We have been letting the teen's friends come over to paint. I have replaced so much this month, they just don't get it. Lucky for me, their favorite colors are the ones I use the least and we were replacing with better anyway. cbs
