war-private
Hello all, I am new to Warlord, got hooked after playing a demo last week (been playing wargames for 24 yrs though). I just got my rule book and minis yesterday and I have a stupid newbie question if you dont mind. I saw this come up in a game thats why I am asking. To use the "cav" ability does it have to say "cav" under special abilities or does it just have to say it any where on the card (like the stand size)? The piece in question was on a cav base but did not have "cav" under its special abilities so does it get the cav ability or not? I know what I think the answer is but as I am a green player (and not just because I picked the Reptus to play ) I thought I would seek the wisdom of more experienced players. Thanks all for your help in advance.
Kelcore
A model being on a Cavalry-sized base does not grant the "Cavalry" special ability. It must list "Cavalry" on the Data Card's SA's to grant the Cav ability.
Qwyksilver
To gain the benefits/penalties of SA: Cavalry (Improved Deflect = +2 DV vs ranged attacks, and models take up two slots in troop formation) it has to be listed under the Special Abilities. Cavalry sized base (1" x 2") does not automatically grant you SA: Cavalry, although the majority of Models on a Cavalry base also have SA: Cavalry. An example of a Model on a Cavalry base that does not have SA: Cavalry is the Elven Centaur. The big things about base size are how many models can get in base to base contact with you, and what kind of effect Cover has on you. And that's what happens when you start typing a post, and go refill your coffee, someone beats you to the answer

Thanks all for your help in advance. The confusion here is understandable The Cavalry base size does not give any special abilities, it only denotes the Size of the model and the shape of the base. It is named "Cavalry" since it is the base used by a person on a horse. the Cavalry SA is a special ability, and if a model has it, it will be listed under Special Abilities on the model's Data Card
