Poison

Again. Missing a HUGE part of Poison.

It is extremely useful against one track models, in fact, it's brutally effective against them. To just ignore this fact is folly.

One track Models that take the hit, and are stunned, have to make a Poison save (essentially a Tough check) at the end of the turn or be killed. Those that make it, shrug off the poison, but still have to make their Tough check when their troop is activated.

That takes a model with a Poison token and Tough/1 from a 20% chance of coming back to the field to only a 4% chance to rejoin the fight.

Since virtually every stock warrior grunt has Tough/1 and a number of the other Solider types - Reach and Breaker also have Tough, that's nothing to ignore.

The Scorpion is also going to be great for Campaign play, since he'll rack up experience nicely with his ability to c-d-g as part of a regular attack. The tough choice will be how many solos to deplay, since the Avatar is still a rock solid selection.

Then Don't Choose.

Play 3000 point games and field one of every solo - more than one if their Non-Unique. Then you get all of them!

Out of curiosity - anybody done the math on the minimum number of points needed to field one of every solo for any of the armies? Assuming minimum troop sizes, etc.

Okay! Here we go. Working with the Crusaders, since most of their cards are up on WarlordHQ.

First, all the Solos.

Guardian Angel (282 pts)

Celestial Lion (84)

Garr, War Dog Alpha (58)

Hound of Judgement (156)

Guardian Beast (185)

This all adds up to 765 points, so it's pretty clear we're going to need a Warlord. Surprisingly, the cheapest of these is Lady Jehanne. So.

Lady Jehanne (236)

2x Lion's Lancers (114)

We also need a Captain.

Sir Broderick (78)

3x Templar Knights (81)

And we need some Sergeants and their troops.

Sir Conlan (30)

3x Templar Knights (81)

3 of these troops.

The grand total of it all: 1,607 points.

This is not the most efficient build possible - if you simply wanted to minimize costs, you could swap in Ivy Crown Skirmishers for the Templar Knights - and neglects spells, equipment, archers, etc. I would suspect that you could do it, if you wanted, in a 2k point game, which would give you enough to flesh out the troops and add some Heroes here and there. I would start by adding some more Lancers to Jehanne's troop, and flesh out the others with more Knights and the occasional Unforgiven.

ETA: Ran the numbers. Using Ivy Crown Skirmishers as your only grunt type (replacing both the Lancers and Templar Knights) will pull the total cost down to 1,505.

It works out similarly for the Reven. To field one of every solo:

Braug (68)

Lurgh (139)

Gurm (73)

Greka (226)

Hill Giant (264)

Hunting Beast (174)

Varaug (245)

2x Goblins (30)

Kak'urgh (62)

5x Goblins (75)

And 4x of:

Kharg (34)

3x Goblins (45)

Total of 1,676 points, plus spells, equipment, and rounding out troops.

In the future I'm positive Kelcore and I will play a 10,000pt game and allow 2 Warlords. He's been acking for a chance to field Chrissy and Gerry.

You had better take pictures. I would love to see this one the battlefield.

Better yet, just record the whole battle and stream the video online ::P:

I was just reading the Rules FAQand it occored to me that it never said if you could dish out 2+ poison tokens to the one model, though on the other hand it never said you couldn't. So long story short are you able to give a sigle model two or more tokens forcing it to make two or more poison save? (for being very badly poisoned :poke: ) If this is posable it could make a very big differance.

Just once, you are either poisoned or you are not.

That's obviously true, but it could be that the model would have to check once per succesful scorpion attack to see whether the poison got into her. She'd still be poisoned only once, but the chances to become poisoned would be increased.

The answer is still no ::P:
