I use the EST all of the time. I move into a decent fire position, and then park myself - Centurion, Duellist, and Crusader. The Duellist EST and the Crusader ECM, and all three fire. I have found it to be very effective. If I have to move, I fire the ECM from the Crusader for protection, and then move the group - depending on the target that presents itself, either fire EST and shoot with only the Centurion, or fire with both w/o EST.

I love the Duellist specificly because it has the EST.

I can vouch that this is pretty damn effective, and painful!

Especially with a nicely located hill right outside my deployment zone that gives me LOS to a good portion of the battlefield.......

heya experienced masons ::):

today I have planned second CAV game in my life (YAY! ::D: ) but even after the first one I knew I need to rebuilt my battleforce...

when we were starting CAV adventure we made exactly same mistake as always when we're trying new game: purchased models we liked first, read rules later...

so because I liked certain models my a-bit-over-2000pts mason force contains:

-centurion

-2x flail

-2x lance

-2x poltergeist

-2x centipide

-6x infantry base

I really regret I didn't read rules before ordering models because I think if I had a chance to order stuff once again I'd replace centurion with ogre and probably didn't take poltergeists (otoh models are sooo cool  )

could You advice me if there are any must-have units in mason forces? except for mentioned duelists 2-3 pages ago :;):

I disagree. My 2000 points looks very similar to yours. I love my Centurion - it is in every force I take. I would take it over an Ogre or Rhino any day. Instead of the centipede, I take a few gunships. The only thing I would suggest is adding in a recon to boost the Centurion. It has great range and good armor degradation. In cover, the thing is very hard to knock out. Practice is the key. In CAV, things need to work together - concentrate on targets, and use ECM / EST support whenever you can..

The Poltergeists are good for their role in the game - pretty cheap, and hard to hurt. If you are not facing any soft targets, or never get the shot in against them, then yeah - they aren't that great.

Duellist are necessary. Worth repeating :) And, you can either kit-bash or wait (hopefully out soon) for the Crusader. Heavy Recon CAV......

about centurion I meant it costs lots of points - it's very powerful, has maximum DT but against heavy-hitters it can use only double piercing weapon, whereas ogre carries 3x piercing weapon system! that's vary handy against line on advancing despot tanks <_<

maybe I'll appreciate full value of centurion when we start playing games exceeding 2000pts limit

I've found them perfect against opposing recon vehicles - but I have to agree: if there're no soft targets poltergeists can probably only distract enemy's attention from my other forces

I think I'd rather start with duelists - at the very early stage of engagement in CAV I don't feel comfortable with converting stuff... yet :;):

btw - I've noticed most armies are based on CAVs, not "classic" tools of warfare like tanks, apcs and infantry... is this maybe only my point of view or maybe tanks and infantry are not that functional? maybe just underrated?

Not so--I play Adon, not Templar, but one of my most effective lists is 2500 points with only one CAV in it, and that's just a fire support.

At 2000 points the Centurion really does eat up a lot of your points but it is a great CAV to field. Don't forget to take advantage of your faction abilities depending on which one you take, and this willl help those points go a bit farther. I reccomend getting a Spartan for all your recon defense needs to back up your Centurion. As has been said before (and will be said again) the Duelist is great to have in any force. I have some that disagree with me but I like to have a Knight in there to cover your bases as it can take on a variety of targets. Its been said that it is a little too generic but I find it fits in perfectly when you don't know what you're facing. For an open market filler a good old Dictator '60 pairs up rather nicely with the Duelist and Knight to help keep the attack power up and the point cost down.

thanks for advices!

I think I'll surely give a chance to duelist (apart from stats on paper I want to collect models I really like  ) but what I am also considering is more infantry:

during first and only game I was playing they were not sth spectacular but if I purchased shock SA or made them airborn that should make them much more nasty!

not mentioning adding piercing weapon :B):

have anyone of You used such cannon fodder?

A rifle section upgraded with FIST, AT-23s, Orbital Insertion, and some nasty strikes to play with can make for a nice little surprise for your opponent. It gets pricey for smaller games, but it's worth the look on their face.

It is no longer a surprise in our group.

In fact, it has become a staple.

The only problem with it is that it really relies on making its points back quickly. A well balanced list will be a able to put a stamping on the little guys fairly quickly after they show up. So, if you flub a few strike/missle rolls, you may have just cost yourself your investment.

That said, it is still nasty enough to have rapidly become a staple here.
