Decado
I just started reading this book and I must say I am totally hooked! In fact I am so hooked I went out and bought the RPG today. The RPG book is probably one of the most visually appealing RPG books I have seen. I had to stop reading the RPG due to spoilers. I am really looking forward to the rest of the series. skavenbabe
Oh man, it only gets better! My mother says she bought me the 4th book for my birthday. I can't wait to get it. I just finished re-reading the first 3 to catch up!
Qwyksilver
It is so far the best epic fantasy series I have EVER read. Hands down. Period. Mind you I have a good 700+ titles here at home. Just be careful about getting hooked. It's was 5 years between books 3 and 4.
Decado
The delay between books was what kept me from starting to read them earlier. I was soured on these types of series by Jordan's Wheel of Time series. However, the owner of my FLGS is a huge fan of the Song of Ice and Fire series and recommended it to me. He was also selling The Game of Thrones for $ 4.00 so I could not resist. I am hoping that the next books come a little quicker then 5 years. Hoping but not holding my breath... Digital M@
It is too late for you, but I recommend that people wait until the series is finished. I say this for a few reasons. Working full time and having kids, it is hard to find time to reread these same books over and over every time a new one comes out. Second, I have read the series 3 times now and I find that with every re-read, I enjoy the series a little bit less. The nice part is, during a reread, you can skip the chapters of characters you don't care about. THey are a great series, but it could be 10 years before it is done. I chose not to get the latest book and probably won't pick any of them up again until they are finished.
mgmaranda
I agree with M@. These are very good books. But they don't hold up to rereading as well as a smaller serries does. Part of that is becasue George, puts in a lot of plot foreshadowing and in many instances it either just indicates what is happenenig later this book, or it never happens because he has become disinterested with that specific chain of events. After rereading the first and second book to provide a primer for the third I noticed it while reading the third. Now I haven't gone back to any of them. George is an excellent writer and he has managed to get and keep me hooked but I don't know what kind of impact these books will ultimately have on the genre. Decado
So far the entire book has been really hard to put down. I probably should have waited until the series is finished but oh well. I also keep telling myself that I will go back and read The Wheel of Time once the series is finally finished. It should be a fine way to finish out my final years in the old folks home. lionmane
I really like this series as well. Unlike some series, you never know who will make it to the end of the book still alive. I just finished the latest installment a few weeks ago. Another series I can reccomend is the Dragoncrown War Cycle(The Dark Glory War, Fortress Draconis,When Dragons Rage, and The Grand Crusade). Good thing is , you can get the whole series 'cuz its done! I do enjoy coming into these late, so I dont have to wait for the next book. Still, Martin's books are worth it. Decado
lionmane, Who is the author of that series? I will be picking up the second book to The Game of Thrones series Saturday. I just can't resist. Decado
Ranzadule
If you're that excited about the books, you'll really like the skirmish game that is likely to appear around GenCOn. I think there is a link to it on Martin's site. The rules look pretty involved and I like "involved."
lionmane
Decado, the author of the Dragoncrown books is Michael Stackpole. Happy reading!

Qwyksilver
The sculpt of Jon Snow and his wolf that was posted up there back in June was absolutely beautiful. I imagine there will be a lot of "Ranger w/ Wolf companion" characters spawned by the sculpt.
