The concept is great. Nice camo scheme.

Just think it could use a little defining. Like maybe a couple of thin muddy washes. Not thick enough to get the mini dirty, but thick enough to collect in the creases and help detail everything.

Next, I would paint the hex sides that are showing, something like a dark brown or the like.

Nice camo scheme, the armor plating will make a nice backing for the trophy I'll make out of the pilot's head. ::):

Did you use Fighting Pirhana decals or did you freehand the star & wings? I second on the painting of the base sides. I used to do the universal goblin green base until someone pointed out using black on the sides look better. So I painted the next one black on the sides, it looked better, and I haven't looked back since.

I'd be posting my superior Rach units, but unfortunately my paint jobs have become more of a "hurry up and get them good enough for the table but able to improve on later" kinda jobs in prep for the con.

Since my painting knowledge level would best be described as "Newb" I have to ask how and what is a wash? And how would you "muddy wash" something?

You can try Rach boy. But you better get used to that front on view, it'll be the last thing your pilots see. (I'll have to keep some of those kill markers handy, since I'll be adding a WHOLE lot more.) :B):

All the wings, numbers, warning/caution plates etc are FPG decals. I'm still learning those to.

Washing is a technique often used by painters to do quick and easy lining. If you have the warlord book it has a great paint tutorial in it. be sure to check it out. If you dont- please proceed to read my explanation

Get a color a bit darker than your models color. In this case dark green. Water it down considerably so that when you slop it on the model the paint slides off the armor plates and into the cracks- creating a dark line. It is that simple. the hard part is getting the paint:water ratio right. It varies from paint type to paint type. I usually use a drop of paint to three or so drops of water. After that touch up here and there and you are good to go. In the case of you paint scheme the dark green wash would be applied before the grey "camo lines" and a grey or black wash could be carefully applied to the grey areas. It will give the color some depth and create some false shadows and highlights without much work.

above is a link to the Mach 5. It is a good example of greywashing a white cav.

The legs and part of the cockpit are pretty good areas to look at to see what I mean.

Happy painting and thanks for sharing.

Oh... I almost forgot. With Cavs you may want to do one side at a time and lay that side toward the ceiling when drying. Gravity tends to pull the wet paint downward and you will have shadows where highlights go if you leave it standing up. Of course that has been my experiences. Yours may vary.

Only thing I can see that looks wrong to me is in the first pic. The barrel looks like its bent. Could cause some problems on the battle field!!!

Nice camo, top guns look a bit droopy.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... :poke:

It has been straightened. Apparently during the great Closet Cleanout of 2005 a few of the 88th were knocked out of their cradles... that information was gained only after intense interrogation of my girlfriend who displayed the guiltiest look EVER when I made mention that the barrel on my prize Falcon was bent and I didn't notice it until someone on here had pointed it out.
