D&D Online

I maybe in the minority here but I don't like these types of games. I don't like the fact that I have to pay for the game over and over again. So if I buy it for $60 I then have to fork over more dough every month just to play. Then I need to ingore my family to make up for the fact that I am paying for a game so I don't feel like I am waisting my hard earned $$$. What ever happened to free online play?

Just my two cents.

Looks like we'll be "losing" folks to D&DO soon. :poke:
The funny thing is, you guys get me back every time my hands go bad from too much typing.

Somehow, I figure that suffering from shaking, twitching hands is always the best time to dust off the unchristianed pewter and start painting again.

It was mentioned that Eberron is the way of the D&D future. This is yet another reason why I've become a die hard D20 Modern fan.

Because it is not Greyhawk or Forgotten Realms.

I actually like it quite a bit. And d20 Modern is only really good for d20 Future. Now If I can just get WotC to Publish Alternity's Stardrive campaign as the first official d20 Future Campaign setting...

I haven't ever really been a fan of any of the in-game worlds either. All of my first games were under DMs who homebrewed their own worlds - and were good at it.

To that end, D20 Modern is a great game for any GM who does his job.

I guess what turned me off of Eberron is the urban sprawl / magical technology flavor that took on. I do see the finer points of the setting - especially from the perspective of letting a DM start telling different stories. But I also used to play Shadowrun 3 for that fix. I guess that's another tangental argument: SR4 and Eberron seem like the Anime versions of the former Shadworun and D&D.

I quit watching Anime just about 9 years ago. They cancelled the Kimagure Orange Road tape set I had just started collecting. The "anime" rack at the store grew to twice its size and a tenth of its former glory. All of it was girls with improbable cup sizes, guys with improbably sized guns, and a world full of angst over other guys with even bigger guns.

The last time I saw a Rumik World title was in the bargain bins at an anime convention - four years ago. The genre hasn't gotten better.

Besides, there'a already BESM and BESM D20 for anime roleplaying.

Why does everyone hate Eberron so much?

I dislike Eberron because it is so very different from traditional D&D fantasy. I have been playing D&D in various low & high magic settings from almost the very beginning of the game, 1978. I also played Magic: The Gathering for about 5 years, but gave it up somewhere around 'Urza's Whatever'. Eberron from what I've seen just seems too much like M:tG/D&D. I understand that the goal was to come up with something new that would appeal to new, younger players that are more into the anime/manga, but it has so far had no appeal to me.

Hurm. See, I've also been playing for decades (I don't like that I can say that now ). I actually have been really enjoying the past year+ that I have been playing in the Eberron for the specific reason that it is quite a bit different from your traditional AD&D. This is actually the first World that I've wanted to play in. Typically, my DM's have always done homebrewed worlds. I really like that it's different, and has tossed some of the classic conventions on it's ear. If I was going to consider playing D&D online, the fact that it is in Eberron is a reason I would look at buying it (if I was willing to buy a video game I had to pay $15 every month just to play).
