Ever have one of those nights?

Recommended Posts

Ever have one of those nights, where you really want to paint, looked forward to it for a few days, and have a grand plan, and then nothing is working?

That was my night.  I have three townsfolk I'm trying to finish.  I'm at the point where I'm touching up my touching up touching up.  I have Gossamer, the air sorceress, I have been thinking about for two weeks, and nothing looked right on her.

And several other in progress pieces, that just didn't want to be painted.  I am very disappointed.  I very much wanted to paint, wanted to finish someone, but it wasn't to be.

*sigh* :(

Been there. Done that. Horrible isn't it? I guess it's like golf. Sometimes your hot, and sometimes you can barely clear the tee (horrible metaphor, I know, but I just shot a 48 on 9 holes of a par 3.... That's bad)

Even worse is when you sit there for a good twenty minutes staring at a primed mini... just staring... and thinking... and not picking up the paintbrush...

...

...... and staring...  :p

Ahhh... luckily, I don't have to make that choice anymore! I put a pc right next to the ol' workbench. Now I can have a stinky night painting, and surf the internet at the same time!

I've had that week!

As per Polo, I also have my comp next to my painting table (nudging a mini at my elbow as I type, I really need to organise a little more)

I can relate.  There were a couple of minis I wanted to get done before a game tomorrow night.  Looks like they're getting fielded half painted..  Ah well, at least my rank and file guys are all painted... they'll just have half painted commanders...

I'm gonna take a totally wrong mini to play in the game tomorrow, keep the guys I play with guessing. (dancing girl) †I figure a different mini every week until I get Gossamer painted right, will really throw them. †

They aren't too sure what to think about me anyway, they haven't ever played with girls, or don't act like they have. †And I feel a bit like a GM plant in their party. †So I think if they won't listen to me and save the slaves, I'll open attack on them, the party, the GM gave me her blessing, so all bets are off.

Yeeesss!! PC in-fighting, the game all the party can play. I hate these whiners who say "oohh, you can't do anything to me we're in the same party". Time for an 'accidental' critical fumble, methinks.

Reminds me of the time I was playing Star Wars - I was playing this rebel groundtrooper lieutenant in nominal command of the group and the Jedi in the party (female, pretty and the Gm fancied her = ridicuoulously powerful Jedi) saved the life of the Imperial Garrison commander, just after I'd shot him. She wouldn't explain why to my character (although I knew out of game that she had a semi-decent reason) so my character reported her to rebel command as a possible traitor. Oh boy! There were tears that night I can tell you........

we spent last weeks four hour game session making a plan, revising the plan, changing the plan, reconsidering the original plan,  agreeing on the second plan, revising the plan, going back to the first plan, making a third plan, changing the third plan, revising the first plan, and on and on.  It was only my second week gaming with them, so I didn't put my foot down, but heck I want to play, not plan on playing.

I love a good plan, but enough is enough, and the GM begged me to make something happen.

I'm playing a sorceress, I figure I can polymorph two, maybe three of the party before they realize I'm not with them, and then teleport the last two out of camp into the line of fire with me so it will be shoot or be shot.

Then again, its all how the dice roll.

Ouch!  That is awesome...

maybe I should recheck my spell list, I might not be able to do all that, but it would be cool.

I'm gonna go in there with a plan, and stick to it. †I refuse to let them blow up the slaver's ship before they rescue the slaves. †Now the details, I'll work on that.

yep I could even polymorph them all, and transport the lot of them into battle .

 :p

I thought it would be funny to make a list of 100 animals to 'morph them into, and let them roll a d100 to figure out what they became.   I only took 'morph in self-defense after being told to be expect my PC to be hit on by another PC.  The old "take no for an answer or else" trick.  But that player quit, so, now for the muitany.

Okay... last time I played my favorite character - a drow thief/mage... I was almost dead and about to be fireballed... I dropped a globe of darkness then teleported away to the other side of the other wizard and tried to hide in shadows so that I could drink a potion or something without being seen...

The cleric in my party came around the tent and saw me and although I made the "sssshhhh... be quiet" sign (you know, finger in front of lips, etc.)... she began to cast a spell to heal me. Well... the wizard and his bodyguards noticed us crouching there and rushed us. One round later. Me dead.

I was SOOOOOOOO mad I wanted to quit. Instead... I rolled up a new character. A superior-acting elven specialist wizard ñ a diviner. Now... I'm annoying and useless.

Why do I feel like I've read this somewhere before?... Oh yeah, Storminator's post on WebRPG. Well, I understand fully. My group does the same, of course I usually take the job upon myself to get them moving, so I press on time constraints. If that doesn't work, I toss in random difficulties. If that doesn't work, I scare them with my black covered miniature box †

That'll get them moving †
