My Winners from GenghisCon XXVII, part I

It has been a while since I've posted anything here in the forums. I suppose I've just been busy and I haven't gotten around to it. But, in light of what went down at GenghisCon XXVII a couple of weeks ago here in Denver, Co. I thought I would post some links to the pics. First Up, my winner for First Place in Dioramas, 1st Place in Reaper Units, and Best In Show.

I'm particularly proud of this one (and surprised also) because, as Anne can atest to, the competition was fierce. This piece beat works by Marike, Lily, Doug, Derek, and even Jen Haley. So, naturally I'm proud of it.

I'll add more pics of other winners and some new stuff soon. In the meantime, you can see then on my website if you don't want to wait.

Naturally, comments are welcome and encouraged.

Thanks for posting this here. It was great seeing your work again this year. And from here on, you get to be in the Masterclass categories!

Hope to see you at Tacticon in the fall

Hmmm, I thought that the Masters category (or whatever they were calling it) did not qualify for Best in Show judging? Heisler, can you tell me whether that's true, if you're out there somewhere? Thanks. ::):

I'm very curious to know if Genghis really allows pros to compete for BiS, because I know that thus far in our ReaperCon competition I don't allow winners in the Masters to compete for Best in Show. I'm not likely to change that any time soon, but I'm curious as to how they judged this, since I escaped judge duty--for once!! :;):

To all others, it is a very nice diorama in person, though I'm surprised Raven survived my critique of it (for that matter, feeling as I did that day, I'm surprised *anyone* survived my critiques...poor Doug! ::D:)

Thanks for the comments everybody! And IXMinis, thanks for adding the links to the other views!

I asked Heisler about this the morning I found out. According to him Best In Show was open to all takers, Masters or not, and it came down to a decision between this piece and Marike's Basti (which won 1st in Masters and took the People's Choice Awards). Therefore, at least this is what I was told by Heisler, that my piece won, over the Master's division, because of its complexity and overall composition. Honestly, I was just as stunned as anyone else when I was told and now I'm in the Master's Division for all the future Cons here in Denver.

It's about time you moved to Masterclass! Congrats yet again, and you've put some pressure on the rest of us for the next con. Yep Masterclass gets a shot a best in show as well, but you'd be surprised how many times that award comes out of the other categories. Masterclass was indeed that at GenghisCon this year, there was some amazing work to look at. Anybody in the region should try to make it for next year. Tons to learn and I think it's safe to say the best comp in the Rocky Mountain region!

Been admiring Raven's work for a while (I even bought one of his minis on ebay). He's been wanting to get into the masterclass... careful what you wish for! :;):

More people moving to masterclass means a bit less competition for me. :-) Then again, there are still a ton of great entries in the regular categories. I was lucky to squeeze out a third place this time.

congrats on the win

I like that standard, simple but very bold & nice use of colors

Also love the flames, anther interesting take on a truley cool looking mounted fig (normally I don't go for mounted anythings, but this one I had to have as soon as I seen it at Rcon last year)

GREAT JOB!!!
