Chaos Giant or Demon Giant WIP Updated alot!

Recommended Posts

well I have a bit of bad news. i was cooking the body and it fell during the cooking process. the good news is he only lost his lower legs from the knee down. Now I'm going to drill in heavy brass wire for the lower leggs and then finish resculpting the hooves and so on. A minor set back after all I've come to far to turn back now. I will post his new look once its completed.

BTW I aded some hair to the head and it has turned out better. also I have taken the spots and pimples away also. He's more humaniod now.

Thanks be back tommorrow to see the new him.

Ok so since his legs got damaged and had to be remade here is the images. I moved the legs a little and gave him a better stance. I also bulked up on the hooves and put back only one ring in the back leg. he is now smooth and my next step on the body is adding hair.

The hand is chopped off because there will be two sets of hands one with weapons and one with out. I will be chopping off the right after I have sculpted the first hand. the left 1 and 2 will be sculpted later followed by right number two.

So as you might figure the damge to his legs was a blessing because I think and others on other websites think It works better. Please tell me what you think. I will not cook the lower leggs until I have recived alot of feedback on them.

BTW the new head has been smoothed and head hair has been added pic coming soon.

Comment please!

Sorry about the cooking accident. We have all heard that most accidents happen in the kitchen.

Um...I have a question. The rest of the model seemed to have a reptillian type demonic appearance to me, so why work hair into the figure at all? Have you thought of fin type projections? Or more horns perhaps? I like the last head, but the hair just seems off to me.

great questions. well you see I've been posting this at a few other forums and one is the Forum of Doom. They have been very critical and helpful. Alot of them said the same as you. I really don't want to step on Heresy shoes to much so I'm going with a more "me" look. fins and exspecially horns is very heresy demon stuff. So I went through a few heads the first two were horriable but this last one turned out well. I've decided to make a Giant Stayr, which has never been done :poke: I want to add fine hair to the leggs while giving him longer behind the lower legs and around the top base of the hooves. Its so easy to sculpt hair also. I then through the groin he will have a tunic. maybe some shoulder armour. He will also have wrist shackles (I guess thats what they are called) so the hand seam will not be visable and it will be easy for the hobbist to glue the hands on. I forgot what it's called but its that Greek robe that I might put on him not sure. After I cook the lower leggs and I start adding details it will make more since. I hope this helps explain my maddness some.

Thanks again for the feedback

I have elsewhere on this forum stated my opinion on satyr clothing (or extensive lack of it rather...)

But hey - it's fantasy - anything goes :poke:

(obviously with the exception of the very PRONOUNCED nudity that is a typical feature of many ancient greek statues - especially of satyrs... :grr: )

Here is the fur. I'm still thinking I should add some to the upper back but I dunno yet. Let me know what you think. next will be the Tunic and then armour followed by the 2 sets of hands. Finally I'll add last detail then work on the 2 other head add-ons. Comments please! ::):

AAAARGH! You covered all the lovely musculature on the leg in fur!!!

Nah, it's looking great but personally I hate that. When I've put effort into the musculature and then go cover it up in clothing or fur. It's a real "kill your darlings" moment that one. Looks real sweet though.

yea but he is a giant satyr. I was going to leave the legs clean but then the body would of been very demon like.

Ok a few people on this forum and on another metioned maybe doing the fur in Green Stuff so I thought about it and agreed that maybe it would be best to use GS after all I'm starting to work with it more and after All I'm doing the ancient beholder for Eastern Front Studios. If I want more companies to take me seriously i need to use the GS more. Anyway how does the GS fur look? Finer? better detail?

Lookin' pretty good! I really like the giant tick too!

Now that you're coming along, you may want to start focusing on your surfacing techniques. Once you block in the basic musculature you can go back and add surface details and smoothing either before baking or adding another layer of "skin" and then adding textures and such. Righ now, the closeups of the abdomen show distinct cut marks from the tool and give it away as clay. If you go back and soften the edges of these areas it wil make it more "fleshy"

Have a look at Smellybug's Face sculpt tutorial. He shows the process of resurfacing the fleshy areas, cutting textures in and then re-working that area until the folds, wrinkles and creases are fleshy smooth.

Hope that helps!

As for fur, because of the size, you can get some really nice texture using greenstuff. Again, you could do it with sculpey but after shaping the texture with your tool, go back with a soft brush and a little 91% alcohol and smooth the surface a bit. It will give a very realistic fur appearance.
