Vallejo Model Air mix for Brown Violet?

Recommended Posts

For you color-theory types out there, I am trying to mix Vallejo Model Air colors to duplicate Vallejo Model Color 887 - Brown Violet. Can anybody figure the mix?

Wow, good luck on that one. Brown Violet is a thoroughly weird color. I could probably mix it from pigments, but I have no idea if the Air Model colors have traditional colors (i.e. if I tell you to mix a Raw Umber and a Yellow Ochre, do they have those colors?). But at any rate, I'd guess it's a majority of Raw Umber with white, a bit of Yellow Ochre to warm it up, and one would guess a touch of Violet.

If you're painting US WWII vehicles, and are airbrushing, why not just pick up a bottle of Olive Drab from one of any of the model paint manufacturers?

No less authority than Steve Zaloga declared (IIRC) Tamiya Olive Drab as being the closest to WWII OD...

Damon.
