ladystorm
Is there anything that you can share about Reaper's GenCon plans? Is Reaper going to be having a booth again this year? Will there be a Warlord tournament? If so, what will the structure be like (# of points, # of rounds)? Yes, a Reaper Booth will be in the Vendor hall at Gen Con. all events have been submitted, not all events have been accepted so changes may happen. Activities are very similar to what will be offered at ReaperCon. I have both a CAV2 and a Warlord Tournament, a Dungeon Crawl for WL, a Canyon Crawl for CAV2, a WL scenario, a CAV2 scenario and a plethora of Demos of both. We have new terrain tables under construction at HQ so those should prove to be fantastic additions to our Strike Zone. Once the GenCon organizers approve the events, I'll be glad to announce times and other details. I don't like to share too much before that approval happens, I hate to disappoint after teasing with cancelled plans. Check the ReaperCon threads to get more info until I can announce everything. Prophet
So what makes GenCon so special as opposed to Origins? Think its somewhat unfair.
vutpakdi
So what makes GenCon so special as opposed to Origins? Think its somewhat unfair. I believe that GenCon (Indy) is much larger con in terms of number of attendees and overall size. So, if a game company can only afford to attend one con, GenCon would be the show to attend. If you've never been to GenCon, the sheer scale will boggle the mind a bit at first. Ron PS: There are 3 GenCons. The largest and one most people consider to be "GenCon" is the one held in Indianapolis in August. The other two, SoCal and Europe, are much smaller. Artists Wren Posted April 18, 2006 Artists Share Posted April 18, 2006 I think a couple of years ago Reaper only did Origins and missed GenCon, so it might not be as unfair as it seems. Or at least they're rotating the unfair. ;-> There was a big bruhaha about it, too, with lots of people wondering if it was a boycott or something sinister, when really it was because that's the year Reaper moved facilities and couldn't afford the time and/or money to do both. With the two big cons being a month or so apart, I imagine it sometimes comes up for a company that they have to choose and can't manage both. GreyHorde
Think its somewhat unfair. To whom? I believe that GenCon (Indy) is much larger con in terms of number of attendees and overall size. Ron PS: There are 3 GenCons. The largest and one most people consider to be "GenCon" is the one held in Indianapolis in August. The other two, SoCal and Europe, are much smaller. Exactly so. Having been to Origins (granted, it has been several years, now) and GenCon Indy, I would estimate GenCon Indy to be roughly double the size of Origins. I can't put my hands on it right now, but I remember reading somewhere that estimated attendance for GenCon Indy is around 25,000, Origins around 13,000 and GenCon SoCal about 5,000. I think -- please don't quote me or flame me for inaccuracy, these are just off-the-cuff comparisons. I think a couple of years ago Reaper only did Origins and missed GenCon, so it might not be as unfair as it seems. I remember when that happened. As attendees, we make similar decisions. I don't know about anyone else's situation, but I simply can't afford ReaperCon, Origins and GenCon all in the same year. Right now, it will be a stretch to get to just one, so I'm saving up for GenCon (Indy). That's not unfair, that's just the reality of money, time and other resources. Oh, well, maybe next year... Reaper User Vaitalla Posted April 19, 2006 Reaper User Share Posted April 19, 2006 Just as a side note, for those earlier-risers with nothing to do, I'm teaching starting at 8 a.m. at GenCon (Basics and Beyond [Techniques Class], Color Theory, Freehand) on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mornings. I will also be making myself available both in the classroom area (if there's room) and/or the Paint 'n' Take area for critiques, spot demos, quick instruction, etc. Barring that, and if there's space, I will probably be popping into the Reaper booth here and there as well, but as we usually give the sculptors the booth space I suspect the Paint 'n' Take may be a better bet for finding me! --Anne

We are filled to capacity there, thus you got stuck with early am times. I'll announce all the classes soon, and there are a ton of classes as well as Reaper Speed Painting and Rackham Speed Painting, Pro Seminars, Aces Charity Speed Paint & Auction, and the usual Paint & Take and painting competition. Paint & Take area is for basic instruction with sign up/first come first served business going on, but we WILL have a Demo area this year! Unfortunately for you, Anne, we need to pin you down to a schedule and roughly what you'll be doing during that time as we're getting signage printed up for it. It would be perfect for you to spend some time here and there helping people with crits and technique pointers, or just to let people watch you paint, convert, work on whatever. So...there ya go, folks, the basics in a nutshell and hints of more to come...

Ack, are all your classes to be at 8am? What about late risers with serious colour theory issues! For others starting to plan their schedules, I really enjoyed and found useful Anne's freehand class last year. Some great tips for making that whole process much less scary. pae
8AM isn't for people who get up early. It's for people who stay up late. No sane person wakes up that early, do they?

It's a con, who sleeps at cons? Ummm, besides me? Anyway, plenty of different classes and instructors from all over the world. I know I keep saying I'll post, but everyone wants to make sure Gen con has approved everything first. Then I'm sure Cheryl (and I) will gleefully inform everyone about what's exactly planned. Mengu
not me. Sleep is overrated. There will be plenty of time to sleep when you're dead. I agree. I wish my body would also agree, but it insists on wasting about 6 hours of my time each night.
