Ichabod Crane
My attempted bi-annual reminder post for clock setting (for those this applies to) In 2006, daylight saving time begins on Sunday April 2.
Qwyksilver
I hate losing an hour of sleep. I will however enjoy not having the blinding sun in my eyes for my entire commute home.
styates
Yeah, Qwyk, that'll be nice. Although, now I'll probably get blinding sun on the way in instead!!!
dargrin
Why do we still have day light savings time in 2006? I am with Qwyk on this, I hate losing sleep. Not only that it really screws up my kids for at least a week or two. I need to be enlightened. Why do we still do this?
GreyHorde
I'm with both of you on this. I can't help but wonder, what's the point? How does playing around with our perception of the time of day actually benefit anyone? Here in Indiana, it's getting better, since this is the first time the state has mandated a schedule, but still... I'm not a native Hoosier, just a transplant, so I've never understood the mess they make with Eastern, Indiana Eastern (referred to around here as 'Fast Time') and Central. There is one town I heard about the other night that was split down the middle. One business was on Fast Time and the one right next door was not. WHY?!? slidedog
The inability to let go of passe' tradition? The inability to realize we are far from an agrirarian soc iety any more? The fact Microsoft would have to update Windows? Who knows... It is a bit silly.
Flit
I like Daylight Savings Time. I think we should stay on it all year- that way we don't have to mess with the clocks twice a year. But then I am weird, especally about daylight stuff.
Qwyksilver
I don't care whether we stick with Daylight Savings or Daylight Standard. Just pick one and don't change it every 6 months. That's what I find the most annoying. What makes it worse is that not every state follows it.
Reaperbryan
You know legislation recently passed extending DST into November, beginning 2007. So next year we'll spend 7 months on DST, and only 5 on "solar" time.
daHob
You know legislation recently passed extending DST into November, beginning 2007. So next year we'll spend 7 months on DST, and only 5 on "solar" time. I'm not looking forward to that. Do they know how much oney that is going to cost? I'm a programmer. Shifting the DST date is going to screw up so much freaking code. Grrrr...... Oh well, I guess it's job security.
Almathea Toes
Well, I'll lose an hour of sleep in spring, but I get an extra one in fall. I believe not doing the DST thing is being a traditionalist throwback, as many farmers refused to follow the time change when it was first introduced. Are there two systems in the states? I think there's only one in quebec. I mean the reminders are always on all the news programs, and I've never known anyone to have a problem beyond the first day or two. I believe we fall back in either october or november, but we get a lot less daylight in Canada. At the height of winter I think we average something terrible like 8 hours of light and 16 of dark. joshuaslater
Wasn't this whole thing for the farmers, and also so the kids could be seen in the crosswalk every morning? For the life of me, I can't think of why we still do all this. Seems like a massive "Simon says" kinda thing; I know someone is laughing at all of us shiftin' the clocks. vutpakdi
Keeping DST throughout the year would mean kids going to school in the dark during the winter months. Not a very good thing from a safety standpoint. This past DST change (back in October) was very hard on us since we fell back, but my son (now 3 years old) didn't. So, instead of him waking up between 5:15 and 5:30 AM, he would wake up between 4:15 to 4:30 AM. He is still mostly on a DST schedule, so I'm really looking forward to this weekend when we go back to DST. Geez, I never thought that I'd be hoping that I would be able to wake up at 5:30 AM... Crazy8
HaHa!! No Daylight savings time in Arizona!! Then again DST was originally started to give farming communities more time to harvest/plant and you can't grow a whole lot in the desert. (It does play havoc when I try to call back home to Michigan though... or when my peeps back home call me out here and forget that 9am to them is only 6am to me)
