Super Glue is your friend...when you get one of those type cuts...

Umm, you do know that all these super glue-like substances we use to aseemble minis are cyano-based glues, right? Yeah, cyano-... not as is the color cyan, but as in cyanide. Not healthy stuff, especially on open cuts. No, doing it once won't kill you, but be safe people. I used to work a lot with Finnish (as in the country Finland) Birch aircraft-grade plywood to make boomerangs. The stuff is laminated together with cyano-based glues, and the process of making a boomerang involves sanding the edges to make it fly properly (yeah, just like sculpting stone; cut away everything that doesn't look like a boomerang). Anyway, even that dust was highly toxic; I wore a HEPA-rated air filter mask to keep the stuff out of my lungs.

So please be careful with your fingers; I'd hate to see any of that talent get lost to glue. ;)

There are some "super glue" derived surgical glues in use. Johnson and Johnson makes a "liquid bandage" which is one of them (I think). Doing a bit of googling came up with this Straight Dope article.

It may be that because the cyanide is bound up tight enough that the resulting molecule is non-toxic. Sort of like having a mercury based tooth filling which is safe though if the mercury itself was extracted, would be quite toxic.

Layer 437 is on the mini. Or at least it seems like that many.

I don't know if I'll get my second entry done. Too much to do, not enough time. Isn't that always the way?

Anyway I had started the skin tones for the other entry and while they're nice and smooth something about them just doesn't say 'Enter me in the ReaperCon painting contest!' When the minis start to speak, time to take a break.

Nope, that's when you're just getting started! Do you know how fussy these creatures can be about their wings?! And the basing, sheesh. Threatening them doesn't help either. Don't make your minis mad, they can be vengeful...

Good article, Ron. I had no idea that many of the liquid bandage products were also using a cyano-based compound. Tho, it seems pretty clear from the conclusion of the article, that using your miniature's super glue for bandaging is not such a great idea, even if it does bond better than liquid bandages. ;)

As for the rest of you: paint, you fools, paint! Less than 10 days to the start of the con! ::P:

Phew, I was going to try CA debonder, but if acetone works I'll try that. Glad to know there's still hope. Thanks!

If you already have CA debonder, that should be fine. Being a chemist, acetone isn't in short supply for me.

Would nail polish remover fit the bill or do I need pure acetone? I don't have acetone or CA debonder on hand currently and was thinking maybe my wife's nail polish remover might work.

Oh, as far as projects go, I made a little progress on a 60 Dictator, but not much. Still have two armor platoons, a scout platoon, and a flight of Kharls to go. It's gonna be tight folks.

It's my hubby's 40th :bday: this weekend though, so I'll need to pause for a couple days. Some things can be put off, but not that!

I finally have mine under way. I mean, really: I don't want Shannon Stiltz to simply walk away with the prize. There must be some competition, no matter how weak. :;):

I have been in the process of swearing mightily at my entry as I do prep work. It's a model that just does not want to be easily assembled. Dry fitting and drilling/pinning was not playing nice. I just finished my primer dusting to see if I missed any mold lines.

Spring allergies/sinus infections suck when it comes to painting - every time I lean forward to work, I turn into a mouth breather (ok, that's not much of a change from usual, but still...)

And who keeps adding new mold lines to the mini when I'm not looking? They're everywhere!

This keeps happening to me too!

It must me some sort of conspiracy by the demons of Anti Miniature Painting or mabe the UFOs.

Actually what kept me from painting last night was absolutly no energy and a headache. I blame the clouds that we have had for the last few days. They always make me tired. Today is nice and sunny though. A perfect day for painting after work. Too bad (kinda) that I have dinner plans with friends tonight.

Oh well there's always the weekend.

Last night was paint night at the FLGS. Good thing I went because I found out I'll be running some of them later next month.

Tonight I'm being fed in exchange for teaching people how to pin minis.

I can generally squeeze an hour of painting in after things like this but I'm starting to get more and more tired. Perhaps tonight I'll just forget about getting any work done on the projects and just refresh myself.

I did take one of the partially completed pieces to paint night last night. Good reviews all around!

Side note - I also brought my entire collection of MSP to paint night. It was quite impressive. And it also inspired someone to purchase the entire set. Well, have it ordered anyway. I think I deserve some kind of commission on that one.

I think if anyone deserves that bonus it's Eastman. He got at least 5 of us into the MSP. ;)
