So Games Workshop is the Evil Empire, their prices are ridiculous, I don't like the fluff, blah, blah.

But that piranha seems reasonably priced.

And the space pope is too goofy not to love, same with the vespid and vostroyans.

And those new stealth suits look cool...

It's also a given that, when I'm rich, I'm buying every Forgewolrd Tau Crisis Suit, and that whole Anphelon base thingy.

Give in to your hatred and we can rule the Galaxy as Father and Son...

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

That's not true, that IMPOSSIBLE!

Yeah they're prices suck, big time. My boyfriend bought me one of their new figs, and well you know how people complain that infinity at nine dollars a fig was pricey, this one lonely human fig cost 18 CAD. THat's about 15.30 USD, before tax. THey have a lot of nice figs, but for the most part they are simply overpriced because they know people who play the game will be forced to buy certain blistered figs. THey're actual squad boxes and what not are OK for pricing in my book. Of course as I'm converting a guard army I double the price of all my squads, making it hidiously expensive. Needless to say it'll be years before my army is at a size I can play.

Ugh, I can't stand the Vostroyanians. Look even worse painted...

The only 40K thing I'm looking forward to is a revamp of the Eldar Rangers...

Damon.

I'm with you, Lars.

Those Vostroyanians are um... silly for even GW. I mean if you are going to rip off history and you want russians and guardsmen for your new cityfight scenarios... why not simply look to Stalingrad? It's like the D-day of the eastern front as far as popularity goes. It opens up for a Saving Privat Ivan type of campaign, imperial greatcoats etc..

Instead we get valhallans in even sillier hats with goofy long wooden lasguns.

I do like the Tau as generic aliens for any number of sci-fi rule sets. The IG are also nice, and really - the regiment boxes are still a fairly decent deal for models and one can do a WHOLE lot with the plastics as far as conversions go.

Nanite - I'll support you has far as picking up a few models, but for Joel's sake don't get into the game and don't start building armies. Paint up some dudes, play Some Random Sci-Fi set and let that hold you over until the Blessed Comming of AiComm.

Yeah - I hate that. The rank and file are pretty cheap. I mean, the plastic guard is about $1.50-3.00 a figure in general, and and ideal for conversions.

Their metal are on par with reaper at $3-5 a figure. But the price for heroes and command units that you need to play is just silly.

I don't understand all the anti-40k snobbery that exists out there. It's not a perfect rules set by any means, but unless you play on the competitive tournament circuit (thankfully, there seems to be no Conflict/GT circuit in the US this year) where broken uber-combos are the order of the day it's a perfectly fine way to spend an afternoon.

Why re-invent the wheel if you want to play a sci-fi game with the figures that GW manufactures?

The source of my derision with 40k isn't the rules nor the figures. It's that they charge so much for certain things. Yeah, plastic guard aren't that expensive. I bought several boxes, but $40 bucks for a Predator Annihilator? That and some of the business practices baffle me, like restricting online retailers from carrying their product. I still play 40k occassionally, but I won't buy anymore GW product with the exception of some of their modelling tools that I can get locally (and that really doesn't go much further than greenstuff or a few select brushes for things that don't need a lot of detail).

Quite simply because there are better rules out there that are more fun. Why not use the most fun rules you find with the coolest figures you find. ;)

Just because they are GW minis doesn't mean you have to play their games with them. ;)

Actually, their LotR rules translate really nicely into a futuristic skirmish set as well. We like playing StarGuard, simply cause it's what we've always done and it's what we like to play.

See, I like the vostroyans because they are silly. Very VSF.

The new Deth Korps of Krieg (ok that's one thing that really annoys me) forgeworld figs look great, and will cost as muc has my car payment.

As long as it's true confession time, if there is ever good support for epic again, I'm in like flint.

Heck I find myself browising the epic squat listings on ebay more often then I care to admit.

I think the Vostroyans are gorgeous, but that's just me. Best guard since Steel Legion. I'm still kicking myself for not getting that Steel Legion mech-army box, the last great deal GW had.

I haven't bought any stuff since 2002, before that price increase. I'll paint the 400 or so GW minis I bought before I buy more.

Later! :poke:

Can't say I liked the Steel Legion either!

Or the Iron Guard...

Or the Praetorian Guard...

Or the Catachans...

The only IG that have any appeal for me are either Caidans or Deathkorps. Tallarn were ok. The rest were pretty lame IMHO (yes, even the pseudo Soviets). The Rough Riders were particularly lame IMHO.

Damon.
