Depends on how you define "overpriced." I thought the SM Terminators were overpriced until I bought some and discovered how awesome they are!

Mine are extra cool as I bought the Forgeworld Salamander terminator shoulder pads. Mine are outfitted with Thunder Hammers and Storm shields for fluffy Salamander goodness!

Damon.

So is the IG Sentinel the most overpriced plastic kit in the 40K lineup? I think it is. It's a small model, and the mold is almost 10 years old.

I think it might be. I picked up a bunch of plastic & metal sentinels for not quite a song, but I suspect that I won't be able to make as many out of the pieces as I would like.

On the other hand, right now, on a UPS truck, my 2 copies of ABR and a WarStore version of Da Green Tide are on their way. Pity I won't see them until Monday, but it gives me the weekend to plan Orky conversions for the sentinel bits I can't use.

(This infusion of Orky goodness, plus a Btown trade, will give me 4 40k armies. . . almost all at better than 2k points. I've got to find more time to actually use them though.)

I think Termies are overpriced too, but they are large figures with lots of options, and a newish mold. The sentinel mold is 10 years old, it's underdetailed by today's standards, has no options (basic $25 kit, not the ones with metal bits), and finishes into a pretty small model. A Tau Pirahana is the same price, a much newer mold, better detailed, and a bigger kit with more options.

It would have been nice if as the mold aged, GW lowered the price. Or offered a big box of 'em at a discount. But it's not a big gripe, just a dissapointment.

Bwahahahahahahaha!

In other news, Assault on Black Reach is constructed entirely of things which are awesome.

Don't laugh too hard about this. Rumors coming from the GW investors' reports seem to indicate a rapid shift with a lot of changes coming down the pipeline in order to drive their plastic products. One of them comes from closer ties with management staff out of Tamiya in order to develop better pricing strategies for the long term maintenance of their plastic production properties which they acquired a few years ago, but have largely been under performing due to lack of understanding in developing long term outlook strategies for those assets.

In related news though, most companies do not price kits due to the age of the molds. Various plastic model companies do not adjust the pricing on models which are 10, 15 or even 20 years old.

In terms of most expensive - by volume of sprue it is the Eldar Wraithlord.

Right, and it would be nice if Reaper paid more attention to CAV.

Tamiya huh? Great kits at a premium price. Ever read Starshipmodeler's reviews of GW kits? The Baneblade review sums up my feelings: http://starshipmodeler.com/rv/jl_bane.htm

I dislike how GW prices themselves like a boutique manufacturer even though they're the Big Man on Campus.

Oh and it also sucks that nearly every sentinel has a sink on the right side cockpit.

GW can afford to price themselves like a boutique because they're the BMoC.

I just bought a Trukk for all those boyz in Assault on Black Reach(and for $30, it wasn't terribly unreasonable), but that's the first time I've bought a single-model plastic box since I got my 2nd Wraithlord almost a year ago. Buying their big deals (even the Battleforce boxes) is a much better way to go.

Well this is going to make it into the (garage/closet/living room-floor) of shame, not doubts there:

My Scrunts need some vehicles : )

OMG - you should paint it up like a cooper mini or a VM or something :)

Joe - Seriously. *SERIOUSLY* I love your analytical mind, and always look forward to your posts.

Something is REALLY wrong with me. I've never been all that interested in Space Marins before, but I'm really tempted to try and get the Space Marine Spearhead. I like the droppod, the veterans, the Big Dumb Gun and Big Dumb Technician. Even some of the special characters.

I need to breath into a paper bag for a while...
