Ranzadule
In terms of most expensive - by volume of sprue it is the Eldar Wraithlord. The Wraithlord weighs about as much as 5 sporks. When you pay this much for minis, you are not paying so much for the material or the packing, but rather for the license to use a figure. Erion
Wait. There's a chapter called Mantis Warriors? Done in Bright Green and Yellow? Why, precisely, was I not informed of this earlier?
robertsjf
You were, back in the early 90's. Guess alot has happened since then....
Gimp
The Mantis Warriors also date from the time frame when GW acknowledged Space Marines could be smart enough to use cammo on their armor and vehicles. They had some very cool color scheme ideas in some of their early books. Of course, their original Land Speeder was also a kit bash using a plastic spoon and a deodorant stick container with the plans included in the Rogue Trader rulebook. On a side note, a friend gave me a very old box of unassambled Terminators (The Dark Angles Terminator on the box was dressed in black). They were the first lead miniatures I've worked on in a very long time. Now I'm more psyched about the possibilities of Reaper's P65. Lars Porsenna
Take said lead mini and drop it now onto a tile floor. See how much fun that is. Do the same with a pewter mini. The qualities that make lead easy to file and modify also IMHO make them unsuited to gaming. Each to their own though! Damon.
Nanite
Finally talked myself out of the Space Marine Spearhead. In it's place, An Ork in mega-armor, and a couple gray knights. No matter how I do the math, $20 is cheaper then $
kristof65
Of course, their original Land Speeder was also a kit bash using a plastic spoon and a deodorant stick container with the plans included in the Rogue Trader rulebook. I built one of those! Was very surprised to find out my best friend still had it sitting among his 40k stuff when I visited him last. Personally, I think more game rulebooks should encourage converting deodorant containers into vehicles and terrain. It encourages the use of deodorants among a community that is frequently stereotyped as not using them. Nanite - you just didn't try hard enough at your math
Nanite
The math was also time-based. I am likely to be more intruiged by upcoming Imperial Guard, Necron, or Dark Eldar releases. So I'll save the over-the-cliff money for that.
SaintRigger
The emperor weeps tonight. :) Actually, the marine spearhead seemed a bit spendy compared to othr deals. I've seen battle companies for 25% off

The qualities that make lead easy to file and modify also IMHO make them unsuited to gaming. Each to their own though! Damon. Oh, I know about the weaknesses of lead miniatures. Much of my 40K collection is from the 80's and early 90's. I started gaming in the 70's. That's part of why I take such good care of my miniatures. I'll let new players learn with my pewter miniatures, but only people I know will take care of them get to use any of my lead. It was just interesting being reminded how easy lead is to work with at 28mm. I have no problem with pewter, but lead is fine, too. I've worked with a lot of lead through the years, but it's been a while since I did much at that scale. So long as you take care of your miniatures, lead can work as well as pewter. High end showcase pieces will be safer in pewter, but figures will do fine in lead if you take care of your stuff. I still have and use the TSR card stock buildings put out back in the 80's as a kit, and use them for wargaming and roleplaying. Those can last well when cared for, too. SaintRigger
I bought (yet another) Tac squad last night. I'm not sure if I am going to convert them into bears, or paint them as 1'st company Smurfs.
Lars Porsenna
Knowing you, I have to ask: when you talk about smurfs, are we talking about Ultramarines, or actual smurfs... Damon.

Lars Porsenna
To goad Nanite on, I picked up the new SM Codex today. $30 at my FLGS (I get a discount though. .. ), and its pretty good. No game breaking changes I saw with a pagethrough, mostly new units, more fluff, etc. Since I play Salamanders, of particular interest are Master of the Forge Vulkan He'stan (all thunder handers become master crafted, and all flamers, meltas, etc count as twin linked!) and the Land Raider Redeemer. The FLGS has one now (for $50, reasonable IMHO compared to what you get and what there is on the plastic model market) but I'll wait till payday for one of those... Damon. Tac squads become really good too. The neat thing is that any of the special characters apply to any "Codex" army... so instead of having "Vulkan" in your army you have "Joe Weaponmaker" - you get the same benefits. The production values of the new codex are good to - it is really beefy with lots of enat rules, fluff and pictures. I'd like to see the plastic landraider redeemers and crusaders - the metal crusader bits were an absolute nightmare to put together.
