SaintRigger
Well, unless they're Fallen, then the robes are there to cover the tentacles... Damon. Have you read Angels of Darkness? It is a pretty good look at the Fallen and the Lutherites (they are so subtle, aren't they?) and how the Dark Angels paranoia and shame drives them. A must read if you have even a passing interest in the chapter.
Lars Porsenna
No, just read Descent of Angels which was OK but not very controversial. I'll add it to the queue though! Damon.
smokingwreckage
Well, given Space Marines are asexual.... ... but yes, I did know about the poem (hell, maybe it was you what told me) but have you read Space Marine? Whoooooooole lotta subtext going on there, I read it as a kind of low-key running joke. As for "subtle"- subtle is for actual commentary. Ripping off lumps and chunks of history and fiction ad-hoc does not require subtle.

Wanted to comment I picked up this novel today, and while I planned on reading it after my current subject, just looking at it has me excited to dive in! I think I can set aside my current book on the Battle of the Bulge (the 3rd book about this subject specifically I've read...there's only so many angles on Joachim Peiper one can get...) and have a go on this... BTW, my DA robed marine body came today from theWarstore. Built it up with some chaos parts, and if all goes well, I'll order the rest for a Fallen squad. Should really annoy some local players... :) Damon.
Nanite
New Ork Battlewagon pictures: http://belloflostsouls.blogspot.com/2008/1...on-preview.html Not what I was hoping for. Parts of it look great, but overall it looks underdetailed and toylike to me.
Lars Porsenna
Oh I'm not so sure about that. bare plastic doesn't photograph very well under most conditions, unless the plastic is LOADED with dye (like Tamiya kits). I know this from experience. Besides, if its not detailed enough, a few bolts and rivets from Grandt (http://www.grandtline.com/) will spruce it up a bit... Damon. Nanite
The Pound is taking it on the chin right now. It's making some forgeworld models look almost reasonable. I also broke down and bought two boxes of the new Grots. I can't resist evil Muppets.
Erion
We are watching the dollar's climb against the pound with great delight here. My Revenant Titan might become a reality if it stays in this neighborhood ($1.37 = 1 Pound) or improves during the tax refund season. Nanite
Some nice new bits in the Imperial Guard releases. I like the new Advisors, especially the Fleet Officer and the Astropath.
Lars Porsenna
Where did you see these? On Warseer? I saw on the GW website they're offering more "bits." SM backpacks for $4.50. Not a bad price...until you compare it to the War Store (10 for $3.49!). The Warstore has consistently came through for me, as I supplement my Worldeaters CSM's with Fallen Dark Angels (using standard CSM statlines). Only a few more figures to convert! Still, this release will be a boon for me, since rumored there will be plastic Stormtroopers (my SoB -- under construction -- appreciate the addition). Damon. Nanite
From the rumors new stormtroopers are in the second wave. GW previewed the first wave: Sounds like these are due in May: Codex: Imperial Guard Cadian Command Squad Cadian Shock Troops Catachan Command Squad Catachan Jungle Fighters Imperial Guard Valkyrie Imperial Guard Sentinel Imperial Guard Ratlings Imperial Guard Primaris Psyker Imperial Guard Regimental Advisors Imperial Guard Lord Commissar Imperial Guard Cadian Battleforce Imperial Guard Catachan Battleforce http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/...sp?aId=14500025 Officer of the Fleet: Astropath: Ratlings: Master of Ordinance:
Lars Porsenna
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any improvement on the Catachan Jungle Fighters sprue. Still big dudes with ridiculously large muscles. If they come from a Death World, they would IMHO be skinny and wiry, representing lack of resources (it takes a LOT of resources to be a big muscle-bound dude!). I suppose some people like that sort of thing, but I always felt this was one of their worst sets. No Catachans for me then (still!). I dislike the new Cadian look (much prefer the old metal figures), so no advantage for me. What are the Cadian shocktroops though? Rebox of the normal infantry srpue? If so, I better get the ones I can so I can do my Blood Pact army using heads from here. Still, I have a small force of Armageddon Steel Legion, so I'll definitely be picking up the Codex. Also hoping the rumors are true that there's plastic "greatcoat" Guard in the pipeline... Damon.
sethohman
I like the plastic Cadian Command - they claim extra stuff, so hopefully a bit of wargear, or maybe a few exta special weapons. After years of not liking 40K, I bit the bullet and picked up a Witch Hunter / IG army. Hopefully I would get smeared too badly on the field....... Might be a good idea to get some Cadians right now if you wanted some. I'm really surprised they didn't redesign the Catachans at all. I completely agree with you on the look. The Sentinel is supposed to be brand new though, with all the Forgeworld options in plastic now.
