Lars Porsenna
Good thing I don't play Empire in WHFB (night goblins, High Elfs and Dwarfs for now, please. I may start a DE army, and I have enough HYW historicals to proxy Bretonnians if I wanted). Still, for over $4 for plastic figures, they better be pretty awesome.... Damon. SaintRigger
As a Price increase preview, 10 Plastic Empire greatswords for WFB, which will come out just after the price increase, will be $41.25. I shudder to think what other horrors are in store. Seriously?

I shudder to think what other horrors are in store. Seriously? Lars beat me to the link, but yeah, seriously. I predict that all plastic squad/regiment boxes currently priced $35 are going to be raised to $41.25 when June rolls around. That would mean plastic Space Marines could be $4.13 each. This is uncorroborated in any way. But I won't be surpised at all if it happens. I'm also making a prediction that all $22 boxes will be going up to $24.75 based on the price of that new box of archers.
Sergeant_Crunch
Jeez, and people wonder why I won't buy GW minis.
Erion
I'm seriously reconsidering it. If I'm right, that will represent an almost 18% price hike on the $35 boxes. Those were $25 when I started playing in 2000. So that would be a 60% price increase over nine years. I think only Cable Television rivals that kind of increase, but I'm getting more channels and a better picture out of my cable provider. Not the same Eldar Guardians I was getting in Y2K. It's a good thing I play a lot of other games, and have a stockpile of GW stuff to be painted.
Heisler
So in the midst of a global recession and with the main raw material to create plastic having fallen in price GW feels that this is a good time for a price increase?
Nanite
At this point is there enough stuff kicking around the secondary markets (in-person trades, ebay, bartertown, etc.) to satisfy demand?
sethohman
At this point is there enough stuff kicking around the secondary markets (in-person trades, ebay, bartertown, etc.) to satisfy demand? That's where I get probably 80% of my stuff.
Lars Porsenna
If you shop smart, you can get what you want at a reasonable price. Besides Ebay, places like TheWarStore have their standing 20% discount on GW items. That $41.25 box becomes a more reasonable $33. While GW's price increases may hurt, the rest of the plastic model industry is just as bad. The prices of injection molded plastic model kits have risen at least as much in the past several years. When you deal with a niche hobby with a very enthusiastic fanbase, they will charge what the market will bear. And enthusiastic fans can bear more for their toys than FREX a gallon of milk or eating out at a restaurant... Case in point, I have no plans on quitting. Damon. Erion
I'm not quitting, by any means. I have plenty of stuff on hand to fuel my needs for quite a while. I just might not be starting that new Space Wolves army in the fall. And in the interests of fairness, I spoke with the FLGS owner at Lunch, and he says GW are moving away from the price banding scheme toward a cost-plus pricing structure. He used the example that the Valkyrie is $58 instead of $60. So maybe we won't see all the $35 boxes hit $41.25. Of course, when I said $41.25, he asked what unit that was for, and I pointed him to the forthcoming greatswords. He was absolutely incredulous that they could cost so much, and is vehement that it must be an error. So your grain-of-salt needs may vary. The latest WD has them pictured in a 15 man unit. Foundry landsknechts and dopplesoldners are a much cheaper alternative now. ;)

No more Foundry gouging US customers (we hope!) IMHO this might be a test by GW to see if they can get away with it. Buy them at that price and suffer the consequences when ALL plastic goes up. Damon.
Erion
You're not the only one with that opinon. There's a movement on Warseer to boycott them entirely to prevent exactly the kind of across-the-board price hike we've been discussing here. I didn't click the link, but there is apparently a boycottgreatswords.com website. Not that I think it will do any good. GW has been taking it in the pants with reduced sales every time they increase prices, and their solution to make up for it seems to be raising prices even more! If nothing else, it's turned me introspective about how much I'm willing to invest in the hobby going forward.
kristof65
The price hikes in and of themselves probably wouldn't hit them so bad, if they hadn't spent years doing other things to alienate people.
