kristof65
Interesting - I've been reading through the GW 2008 Annual report. Some interesting stuff in there. 23% of the shares outstanding in 2008 were held by a company called Nomad Investment Partnership, of which the only thing of significance I can find is that it's a financial holding group registered in the Cayman Islands. Fortunately, the names of the directors of that company don't match up with any of the names of the directors. And additional 33% of the company is held by two other investment firms (18 & 15% respectively) that specialize in pension funds - basically, straight up investors. The total of the GW directors interests don't seem to come to more than about 6% total, with over half of that being held by one THF Kirby. Which leads to an interesting notation in the report: *The change in the non-beneficial holding for T H F Kirby is due to the finalisation of his divorce settlement. Geez, one could read a lot into that Salaries for the directors seem "normal" for a company of it's size, but to me they seem high for the gaming industry - the Chairman of the board of directors, T. Kirby, makes 350,000 pounds a year. That's over half a million dollars a year. How many game companies even make half a million a year? The financial director and the CEO make 240,000 and 125,000 pounds respectively. Still, that total only appears to be about 3-4% of their total employee costs overall. Vewy, vewy interesting stuff... Nanite
Indeed! Odd note, with the recent Price hikes on the plastic Imperial Guard Troops, the All metal Vostroyan box looks like a good value in comparison, since it includes the heavy weapons squad: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...dId=prod1070173 Of course, the value judgement is all based on one's take on the models. Lars Porsenna
Well, that and on what sort of formation you want. Having a Heavy Weapons team in the platoon means no mech Guard force. For my Blood Pact (which is going to be all mounted) rather than go with a weapons team, I'm going with an extra squad. Makes sense if you consider modern mech infantry (Bradleys can carry around 6 troops, less a full squad; I also found out the old West German HS30 Lang could carry only FOUR dismounts?!?) Damon. warlordgarou
Quick question for someone who has the new Guard codex: What's the point cost (roughly) of a Valkyrie? I really like the look of the kit, but since I am looking at the 750 and 1k point events at GenCon, I want to know if I can shoehorn one or two into my army or not. (If I can't, I'll just have to choose between Marines, Tau and Orks. But fielding a guard force wouldn't be bad either.)
Brushmaster
The Valkyrie is 100 pts for starters plus upgrades . The Vandetta starts at 130 .
Sergeant_Crunch
So, where's Cadia?
warlordgarou
The Valkyrie is 100 pts for starters plus upgrades . The Vandetta starts at 130 . Seems really pricey, when stacked up against a Devilfish. Does it serve a substantially different role? (The May WD seems to indicate that it's mainly a transport vehicle.)
Erion
It is mainly a trasnport vehicle, with the added bonus that your troops can disembark it at any point during the movement as opposed to just at the beginning or end. I'm not sure, but it may also be a fast skimmer which is something the IG have not had access to in quite a long time.

I can see the need for it, but I am not sure the extra 20 points (in base cost) accounts for the difference. OTOH, GW has said before that the points are not balanced so much between individual tanks, troops, or whatnot, but between armies. (I think that only works if people take the armies that GW intends for them to take - deviate too much from the "ideal" GW army, and things get strange, IIRC.) Lars Porsenna
So, where's Cadia? the Eye of Terror hasn't formed yet, because the Eldar naughtiness hasn't birthed Slaanesh yet... Damon.
Erion
So, where's Cadia? Strangely enough, if you look at about South by Southeast on the "eye" there appears to be a channel mostly clear of gas that could be the Cadian Gate. God, I'm such a gigantic Nerd. Nanite
Pfft. That's nothing. I actually entertained the thought of building a cardboard Sky Sentinel costume. No I'm not kidding, and the experience frieghtened me. COSPLAY *shudder* Plus I'm 5'6" on a good day, so I'd be a little short for a giant robot. Ok, on to other nerdery. There's a spiffy painting of the Adeptus Mechanicus Scouts landing on Tau. Amongst the menagerie is a guy in a glass tube, riding on what looks like a tiny, old-skool land raider. If I were to hypothetically start making Adeptus Mechanicus pieces like that, what army could I proxy them into?
Erion
Conversions are what you make of them. I took Reaper's Avatar of Aurelius model and turned him into a Grey Knight Hero manifesting psychic wings via the addition of lots of leftover terminator bits (sadly, he remains unpainted). Your best bet is Guard, because they have an Imperial technological base and the kind of troops/advisors I'd expect an Admech force to bring. You can just go crazy making all sorts of add-on bits to the tanks and sentienels and use the 'counts as' rule judiciously.
Lars Porsenna
I priced out my traitor guard project. Here's what it comes out to be: Cadian Legs (Warstore): $6.49 Cadian torsos (Warstore): $5.99 RENEGADE MILITIA WEAPON ARMS (Forgeworld): $14.19 Fallen Legionnaire Heads (Maxmini): $6.24 Total Cost per squad: $32.91 Total cost per figure: $3.29 Not too bad... Damon. So with the above project, The War Store ran out of Cadian bits, so had to cancel that part of my order. New revised prices up now: Cadian Legs now $9.99 x 10 = $1 per Cadian torsos now $7.99 x 10 = $0.80 per. NEW total cost per squad = $38.41 NEW total cost per figure = $3.84 That's an extra $0.55 per figure! I am not happy... Even Catachan bits are similarly priced (for legs at least) Anyone else know of a bits vendor with better prices? Damon.
robertsjf
Isn't the Warstore restocking after the IG release settles in? What timeframe do you have to have this done in?
