Hells_Clown
Let's say we live in a fantasy world and I have goobs of money to spend on anything I like. *le sigh* Ok, that isn't the case, but if I did, what's the price tag for a full set of Master Series Paints? vutpakdi
There is a master series set of the first 108 paints in the Assylum Online Store for $300. There are 54 paints which aren't in the set. At about $3 for each bottle, the remaining paints would be about $160 or so. Practically speaking, you can easily get by with a smaller selection of paints to start and add more over time. Gus Landt
The only reason to ever spend more than 75% of retail on any gaming product is if you are supporting your FLGS by buying from them. (Which I _highly_ recommend doing as often as possible) If your FLGS doesn't carry the Reaper Master paints, then buy em online for at least 25% off. Since there are currently 162 Master Series paints, retailing at 2.99/bottle, full retail would be $484.38. You should easily be able to get them at 25% off online, making the total $363. Hope that helped!
cutebutpsycho
Gus, I'm afraid that wasn't at ALL clear or detailed enough That number is kind of scary to me when I consider how many of the paints I have and that I've bought them no more than $30 at a time...... But they're worth every penny. I LOVE my MSPs!!!!!!!
haldir
one site--- warstore.net Neal will bend over backwards for you on orders, I would love to call him my local gameshop owner if I could, but alas he is my net choice for online purchases. Gus Landt
one site--- warstore.netRM A) I'm assuming you mean www.thewarstore.com B) When ordering online, since you aren't supporting a LGS, I personally would never pay more than 75% of retail. Neal only offers ~17% discount, so you can find better deals many places (i.e. miniaturemarket.com). If a person is looking to drop that kind of money, 8% can be a lot ($40 in this case). Just my $0.
Sergeant_Crunch
I like the Warstore becuase of the customer service. It's right up there with Reaper as far as that is concerned (which is purty darned good). When I was stationed overseas Neal was extremely helpful and prompt when I had a problem with an item that was in my shipment.
pae
When shopping online, I look for discounts and free shipping on large orders. This is why I'm usually getting stuff from either the war store or chaos mail order.
haldir
yes that is the store I was refering to, I agree the percentage isn't that high vs others but the customer service + the flat rate of 3.95 & very fast shipping (this is coming cross country for me) is why Neal is #1 in my book for minis & stuff. No local game store here, they all dried up (& that was in Boise, 60 miles east of me). some stores like miniaturemarket seems great when they offer 40% off but they then tack on hellish shipping charges, granted it wouldn't matter with a large order since they offer free, but for casual order it sucks. I've had mistake order from Neal a couple times, but he was always prompt in shipping replacements if needed or heck even tacked on a missing mini a year later (1st time I ordered, didn't get a mini & then I didn't place anther order, was into other places at the time, then remember that mini & Neal graciously put it in there for me, even offer free shipping on brush I ordered that got mixed up in a order-- I declined as I would rather see Neal make a buck then have to lose it on a error that is easily fixable. like you said there are others, but I treat Neal as my LGS owner even thou he's 1000+ miles away & I've never seen him RM
Zinzig
I've purchased through Miniaturemarket and have to say that the shipping charges were no more there than anywhere else and it came quickly (2 days and it was in my hands). My order even came with a $5 coupon for next order which means next time it's free-ish shipping. Anything over $75 is free shipping and everything is at least %25 off. Selection isn't close to the warstore, but they do have quite a few paints available. For me, the closest FLGS is 30 miles...so shipping charges = gas used to go there. Plus he's mainly a warhammer store...got 2 walls of the place and 3 gaming tables for warhammer while only about a 3x4 foot section of reaper (that's DHL and Warlord). I like going into the place and browsing around, just to see what's available in person, maybe look at some other lines, pick up some basing material, etc. but for the drive I'm finding it more of a hassle. aurak_merc
I have never used thewarstore.com, but have heard very good things about it. I do however use miniaturemarket.com, and have not had a problem. They have a large selection of what I am looking for (Warlord) and answer e-mails rather quickly. Plus, they are the cheapest I have found online. I tried using my FLGS to order Warlord, but they seem to have forgotten the "F" part, so they rarely get my money. I don't play(just paint and collect), so I feel no obligation to give them my cash for poor service. As for shipping, I really cannot compare. I only place orders when I can do the $75+ size so I get free priority shipping. On a side note, I e-mailed Miniature Market about a couple of figures I was looking for that they did not have available, and within the week they were on the site. They have a smaller variety of games than some places, but they do what they do quite well. :)
loydb
thewarestore.com gets 90% of my miniatures business. Neal is fantastic to work with.
Stubbdog
well, normally quiet about webstores since Reaper peeps understandably prefer people not to pilfer their goods on here. But, since hte floodgates seem to be open on opinions of webstores and such at the moment, I would like the opportunity to atleast point out the store marked in my sig line below. We try our best to get you what you are looking for.
haldir
Jason is right, Exodus Road is a fantastic place to do buisness with, I try & spread the wealth there, just haven't had many mini orders last month due to the con comin up, but I'll place a order there this month thou. prompt fast service, great people. Hopin to run into him at the Con, would be great to meet someone that I don't mind fork cash over to, ha ha) Also, I'm not sayin mm.com is bad, every order I've placed has been great, just the shipping to me isn't worth it (example just did a mock order of the Warlord book--shipping is 6.05 + .50 (shipping is never free there) handling charge. That's alot when you concider he makes it up from the great discount Anther example, this time a box set Marthangaul the great dragon 59.99 + 10.90 + .50 vs I can't find it on warstore right now but pretty much take reaper retail -20% then 3.95 shipping. Now that is alot for me, granted the prices are for NY to OR, closer guys will have cheaper shipping rates. not putting mm down or anything, just the discount isn't that high at mm when I shop there + like I said earlier I like supporting Neal, he's a great person to deal with. GreyHorde
I am not disparaging anyone else's opinions, merely relating my own limited online shopping experiences.... I emailed Neal at the WarStore to ask about a special order and got no reply. I sent the same email to Miniature Market and had an answer in a half hour. I ordered from Miniature Market, received confirmation of order and shipping on the same day, and got a perfectly packed order in four business days, with no shipping charge since it was over $75. That took some doing, since it was mostly MSPs at $2.24 each. This is 25% off, for those of you doing the math. It's also the lowest price I've found, anywhere, and I've been looking for a while, now. Even better, I also picked up some Warlord minis at 25% off and a few Warlord and DHL at 40% off. Did I mention the emails I sent and the order were both sent on Christmas Eve? (Yeah, I received some 'discretionary funds' for gifts.) Did I also mention my order arrived with a coupon for 10% off my next order? Suh-weet! I ordered again from Miniature Market in January, without shipping costs and using a 'Happy New Year' coupon received from them for $5 off. The order arrived with another coupon for $5 off. Or was it 5%? I don't remember, now. Anyway, in March I used the coupon and a friend combined his order with mine so we could once more get the free shipping. In this order, I got Mossbeard in the box set with the dryad what's-her-name on clearance sale for $11.99 -- 40% off. It's $14.99 right now, or 25% off, but still... My point: I've ordered three times from Miniature Market and been pleased beyond expectations with their service, speed and pricing. When coupons and discounts arrive with almost every order, plus their stanard discounted pricing and clearance items, the shipping costs are more than offset. Meanwhile, my poor, neglected, full retail, never-puts-anything-on-sale, no-discounts-allowed-on-anything LGS(s) have completely missed the boat. I have the complete line of MSPs up to the most current release, happily replacing almost all my old paints with MSPs, getting the Warlord core book and starting an elf faction along the way. I could not afford to do this if the costs were 25% to 40% plus tax higher. Sorry, I am a mercenary, first and foremost. As much as I would like to support my local retailers, I have to get good value for my money.
