Simple Green Overdose?

I had a bunch of mini's soaking in simple green for almost a week to get primer off of them. However when I scrubbed them they were very dark, rather then the regular color pewter they had more of a dark dull grey look. Also, one has a greenish tint to it in one area, and some have a texture on them now (an not from say superglue or anything like that). They also seem to not be as detailed as before, though this might just be from the dull grey color they have.

 

Does anyone know about this, are they safe to prime and paint? Will this go away and they'll return to normal?

Try scrubbing with a stiff toothbrush or a very very very light brass wire brush. I've had stuff darken but never "texture" and I don't think any detail was lost- and I sit them in the Simple Green for weeks at a time.

I always use a stiff toothbrush and some liquid hand soap and warm water. Give it a good scrubbing, and the mini should be bright and shiny again. I've never had to use anything stiffer than a toothbrush, though I have had some minis that had stubborn paint in recesses. These I just send back into the stripper for a little while longer, and the second go-round with the brush gets them all clean and ready for paint.

Simple Green has darkened or dulled the metal when I've used it, though I don't recall it ever adding any sort of texture. Is it possible that's the remnants of primer/paint or something?

I've had residue in the tub settle on the minis, as I soak them in a green-filled ultrasonic cleaner - rinses right off, though, if you don't let it dry.

I had this problem with my Dana Murphy and a Khan. Didn't get the texturing that you mention though, just the darkening. At any rate, they primed and painted fine.

The color is better, they are more in the middle of normal and the dull grey. There is still however variations in the color, one area will be bright silver, the next will be dull grey. However the one mini that discolored green is the same, maybe green or kind of rust colored, it's hard to tell. The texture seems to be gone now too.

never could stand the smell of Simple Green (my grandmother used it when I was little over at her house during the summer many many moons ago), but the more I hear about how well it works the more I want to give it a try again

 

I had a warlord fig in some pinesol that did that, the darkening but not texture. Sounds like the texture is probably just stubborn paint that hasn't come off yet

I was amazed at how it worked, I previously used W&N Brush Cleaner that worked peachy keen, obviously. Simple Green worked just as well, I got all the paint off. However, I did have to let them soak longer, a few days rather then overnight. And the price is the clincher, I got a big bottle for like 3 bucks, and it cleaned a bucket full of mini's, say 20ish.
