dargrin
Ok I like how this started. I got the leather skirt and the leggings then started and then I started to lose it. I don't know if I got tired or what. Face is ok and the hair looks like a mop. What do you guys think?
Lastman
I would not dunk it. I like the expression on the face... like she's not happy with whatever happened when she read the scroll. I'd clean up the fasteners on her shirt, maybe change the color of the knee thing. Overall effect is pleasant so far.
Humansquish
I say keep it also. It looks like you've got a good start, and I think it might be a good lesson to push through and make it look good.
skya
Trust me, there's a point in every mini properly refered to as the butt point. You look at it, say "damn this looks like crap" and then you have to keep going and work past it.
pae
I don't strip minis anymore. I just either keep going, or I toss 'em. Skya is definitely right though. Even the best paintjobs go through ugly stages.
skya
Trust me, there's a point in every mini properly refered to as the butt point. You look at it, say "damn this looks like crap" and then you have to keep going and work past it. You know... I dont really have a problem with censors for words people might consider offensive on a company's private boards, but I really wish the stupid thing would tell me that it's changing it. Instead of me going back, reading someone elses reply and finding out that I didnt say what I thought I said. Calling it to the "butt" point rather changes the pacing and feel of the sentance, and certainly isnt what it's properly refered to as. :P
Flit
Since you like the face, I think this one is worth working on some more. I usually strip a mini at least once when I am working on the eyes and face. It takes something really drastic for me to decide to strip a mini after the skin is done.
dargrin
Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. So tonight I started trying to make her more..pretty. If you know anything about me is that I am not good at pretty. But with help from my wife I put this together. I also noticed something during the touchup process that some of the rings on her shirt either melted or the mold didn't cast them right. Anyone else see this before with this fig? Any thoughts on how one repairs something this tiny tiny tiny? Anyway let me know what you think.
Jabberwocky
Good job sticking with it, Dargrin. I like the pattern on the top. The left eye looks good, as does the mouth. I might suggest an additional highlight on the nose and chin as well as the lip light reflection on the lower lip. As for the rings on the shirt, you probably could just connect them with silver and it would look fine--the eye would make the connection and only under very close inspection would it appear different. If you really wanted to sell it, darkline the edges of the silver line connecting the rings.
big man on campus
For the rings I would use a small amount of Green Stuff. I would either make another ring to put over the broken one or make a thin snake let it sit for a bit and then put it place.
drjsallison
If you roll a tiny (and I mean tiny) bit of browm stuff to the approxamate thickness of the ring, you can cut off the missing legnth and affix it in place. Brown stuff is great because it can be shaved and filed after it is dry and won't break up or tear like green stuff. When the piece in in place, just file gently until the seam is indistinguishable. (This is much easier said than done.) If you don't want the great effort, just paint in the connection.
Enchantra
For the rings, I would simply paint the area to look like a ring where the cast didn't fill in all the way. Using the brown stuff would work, but if the mini got bumped really badly, even after sealing there is a possibility the brownstuff could pop off as it isn't attached to bare metal but instead it's attached to paint - and paint can chip off even when sealed. I think you see where that is heading. Skya: I know all about the @$$ point of a miniature. I still have a confrontation miniature soaking in a nail polish remover bath because it ticked me off. It's one of a very choice few number of minis that I've ever given a bath to.
angus147258
You've got shading down. Lets see some highlighting.
mousekiller
Looks like she is coming along nicely. I really like those dots on the shirt, nice touch..
awong
For the rings, I would simply paint the area to look like a ring where the cast didn't fill in all the way. I agree with Enchantra...especially since you've already started painting. You'd probably want to do all your puttying and sanding before painting, so you don't accidentally muck-up what you've painted. Go with silver (or grey, if you're doing NMM ) and fake the shadows and highlights to match. I doubt anyone will notice. Thanks AWhang
