Vil-hatarn
I'll be around most of the summer with lots of free time...hopefully, I'll finally make it into the Whiz at some point.
Ravenwolf
Thanks for the great games. Shadowmage (my son) and I had a great time. Hopefully next time we can get Ranz and his son out for the next one. Shadow mage is already eagerly awaiting your next tournament. He made a 2 new army lists on the way home and wants to test them out. We've created a moster I got to see a few new things and learn a few new rules. That's one of the things I love about playing with other groups. Thanks again until The Bloody Strip invades the Forgewalk Marches! It was great to meet you EW (and your son) and have you over in the Marches. I hadn't played against a (near) complete Undead Nefsokar army. Those guys have some great DV's and the Walking Avatars are a deal at 147 points. Tough models. Let us know when the Strip has a tourney and maybe we can gather some Forgewalkers and bring the battle to you! I, too, learned some things and got to see other styles of play as well. I'll be posting my list and battle details soon.
Ranzadule
Columbus Day Weekend, we will be having a Warlord Tournament at Albacon. It didn't quite pan out last year, but I think this year, we may be able to get some Forgewalkers, Rochersterians, Wild Bill and Sergei. I think we can do about 32 players. I'll be posting something soon.
wildbill
Since you brought it up so early, maybe a separate posting needs to be made of this, but you'll have to refresh my memory on where Albacon is again, timing etc etc etc. I had every intention of going last year, but all of the flights filled up on me and I couldn't make it. CaptC
Well, we'll be posting new events on a regular basis, probably monthly. Stay tuned!
Ravenwolf
This was the Crypt Legion list I played at the tourney: Troop 1 (295): Lord Kentaur + LMA 3 Skeletal Breakers 6 Wraith Harvesters Troop 2 (358): Sir Gadrun + GMA 3 The Called 5 Skeletal Archers Troop 3 (45): Kaena, Banshee Troop 4 (202): Aysa + GME Gruesome Familiar Totem of Battle (100) Total: 1000 points My initial goal was to be prepared for Razig coming from the Bloody Strip and the more I tailored my list for Razig, the more I realized how much havoc this list could cause against ANY opposing list. You’re probably saying, “No Moandain?! What about Necromantic Surges?” Well, in a 1000-point game with an hour time limit, I figured he was too expensive and if I used Spells offensively instead of to heal I would have to make them really count to be worth the point loss I would incur for casting them. So, in the end I decided I would not field him. Kentaur’s (I love having at least 1 Tactician ) troop is the meat of the army. Hard-hitting and maneuverable. I love Non-corporeal . The Whiz has a lot of terrain on their various boards and I love being able to ignore it. As long as I don’t play on the road board, I have an advantage. Gadrun’s troop is for harassment. He runs around to pick off flanks while The Called march forward without retaliation to attack casters, fragile solos or archers. And the archers… well, they shoot stuff. Duh. The banshee is also a harassment unit and Aysa, she hides in the back (behind the Totem ) and summons using the GF for range and LOS. The Totem really beefs up the models in this list and with everything gaining Dark Energy, I’m more likely to make Tough checks because the frequency of rolls increases. Tourney details: Round 1 vs. Hoboman (Reven): Hoboman brought a Tomukh list featuring Dantral with Ombur and 5 or 6 BO Archers, Narg with Yagun Oog and some BO Fighters and Braug solo. I was able to get the high ground as I had choice of side on the lava board in this match and perched my archers there. Aysa stayed in the back and I used Gadrun to shield her (I hadn’t thought of hiding behind the Totem until Round 2). Her GF flew to the center of the board and she started summoning Minions. I scattered Kentaur’s troops about (fearing a nasty spell from Yagun) to cut off Braug (who he hid behind a large lava column) and meet some BO Fighters in the center. Meanwhile, my archers were pretty ineffective at targeting… anything. He had the same luck with his archers and he decided to charge more of his Fighters with Yagun right behind them to the center. With Yagun in range of both my archers and The Called (which he no defense for), I decided it would be best to take him down and in 2 rounds, down he went. Braug fell soon after getting surrounded by Wraiths (did I mention I love Non-corporeal) either alone or with more behind them providing support. My goal was to take down his leaders, casters and other high point Models and I basically left my Minions (and other units) to tie up his grunts. Gadrun did nothing except shield Aysa the entire time and I still won handily as Yagun (who was loaded with Spells and couldn’t get one off before he fell), Braug, Dantral were all dead when time was called. Hoboman fought well, but he should have left Yagun out of the charge, kept him in the back and started throwing the Fireballs he had. Round 1: Win (15 points) Round 2 vs. ElementsWarden (Nefsokar): EW was playing a (near) complete Undead army save for Fatima. He had Ammat with Fatima a Prophet and what looked like an endless supply of Tomb Guards, a Chosen with 3 Awakened and 2 Walking Avatars. This was going to hurt. We jockeyed for position. He brought the Avatars to flank either side of the board and force my troops toward the center and/or to engage them first. My archers couldn’t hit anything except Fatima, but after he realized I could shoot through the small gap between 2 Tomb Guards and just gave Fatima cover, he kept her well protected. Gadrun got based quickly even as I marched my Called toward Fatima and the Prophet. I summoned very few Minions and my Wraiths and Breakers had a tough time with the TG’s and Avatars. The high DV’s were really winning the day for EW. I think the banshee only scored 1 point on an Avatar the whole game. Those things are just nasty and a deal at 147 points. EW had good tactics, but in the end a forgotten Divine Favor would cost him the victory. Had it been, “Oh I forgot Ammat had DF, she’s really at 2 damage instead of 3 and counts as full up for points” that would have been fine. But she failed her Tough check and had EW remembered the DF she would not have been Stunned and he could have had Fatima Bandage her to save the points. Instead, he decided not to bandage anything as it would not have mattered for points and then time was called shortly after that troop activation. We were counting points when he realized he’d forgotten Ammat’s DF. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve forgotten DF myself. Round 2: Win (15 points). Round 3 (final) vs. CaptC (Necropolis): Crypt Legion vs. Crypt Legion. It was destined to happen. Both of came to this meeting undefeated and I had a slight advantage in points. His army composition was much different than mine, but there were a few similarities. His featured Moandain with 3 Skeletal Archers and some Zombies, Azarphan with 8 Zombies and Aysa (with GME and GF). We played on the rough terrain board. Yeah, you guessed it; the ENTIRE board is rough terrain. I had the movement advantage, with Non-corporeal and Burrowed Models and CaptC having Zombies with a 4 Move! I made the stupid mistake of running Gadrun up the level 4 hill within easy reach of his yet-to-be summoned Minions. After his Aysa broke 6 Bindsouls and summoned 5 Minions they proceeded to surround Gadrun and keep him from moving forward. Miraculously I managed to kill all but one with Gadrun, the Banshee and some Wraiths, but more kept coming tying up those Models. My Called marched forward to Moandain and managed to scratch off his Divine Favor and do little else while my archers picked off Zombies only to have them rise again. The shining point of this battle was having my Banshee on top of that level 4 hill getting a 16” Blowthrough and hitting 5 out of 7 Models (Zombies and a Skeletal Archer, I believe). In the end, after the massive amount of Tough checks were made CaptC emerged the victor by about 50 or 60 points worth of Models. It was a great game and I came away knowing what moves I should have made instead of others. Despite being undefeated, ElementsWarden eked out First Place by ONE point. Round 3: Loss (5 points). Props to: ElementsWarden and Shadowmage for making the tip out from The Bloody Strip to battle with us Forgewalkers. CaptC and The Whiz Store for hosting the tournament. Darthiir for running the tournament as a Black Lightning event. Burrow and Non-corporeal SA's I’m looking for to the next Tourney at The Whiz Store and hopefully we can get a group together to head to the Bloody Strip for Albacon or some other tournament and bring the battle to them! Ranzadule
Razig will not be appearing in the Forgewalk Marches. A one hour time limit is an auto loss for the Good Cap'n. The Scurvy Dog rule is too much to overcome in so short a time. I do however have a force that cannot possibly lose in the format you used last time. That's right, "cannot possibly lose." So starteth the smack-talk... ;)

We were also playing by a modified point system which was if a model is MORE than 1/2 dead then he is counded as dead. I thought it was 1/2 dead or more. Thus my avatar (which I would have needed 2's with 2 swings due to help from a tomb guard) left a wounded Sir Gadrun to attack a banshee which was less points. He would have gotten a tough 1 roll after the coupDG. That would have given me +100 points for an 85 point win. Next time it would be great to have the modified rules handed out on a sheet. Again thanks for the great games.
