lordoftheleaves
Well I didnt know where to post this, so I posted here. I just thought it would be interesting to see what people said. My favorites are definitley Werner Klocke, for his elves especially, and Sandra Garrity, She does great Dragons and Creatures.
eastman
That is a question I really can't answer. There are too many sculptors doing fantastic work. The one who had the biggest influence on me would have to be Bob Ridolfi. Before I decided to give painting another try (I had given up in frustration in the early 80s) I bought one of Bob's sculpts just because I thought the mini looked cool. If I hadn't done that, I probably wouldn't have started painting a year later. And so it begins...
cutebutpsycho
I think I'd have to say Werner Klocke and Bobby Jackson tied for first with Bob Ridolfi as a close second. The faces are so important to me! Are they paintable? Are the attractive? Then I like the sculptor. Julie Guthrie and Gene Van Horne have done some incredible work too, but Werner, Bobby, and Bob win. I really love all the sculptors work though! smokingwreckage
Right now I totally dig Chaz Elliot. Damn, that man can sculpt! However I also like a lot of Bobby Jackson's stuff. Julie Guthrie is often stunning- perhaps I should say, her WORK is often stunning. Klocke is a solid performer, I very often like his sculpts, particularly the smooth clean lines of the faces on his leettle women. IIRC, Bob Ridolfi does some good stuff, particularly monsters. Garrity sculpts I tend to not especially go for, even though they are often very nice. So short answer: right now, Chaz is the man. But he has some hot competition. Decado
Werner Klocke is my favorite. I also like Jim Johnson and Jason Weibe. Decado
alchemist
For me, I'd say it's a tie between Garrity and Guthrie.
Shakandara
Werner is my idol, and I just can't say enough about how much I love his work. But let's face it; this is elite competition here. Bobby Jackson has done my single most favorite figure from the Reaper line, Jason Weibe's monster work is absolutely killer, and Chaz's Reptus in the Warlord line are my favorite series of sculpts. Pick one? Nah. That's why we can buy them ALL from Reaper. ~v
Sergeant_Crunch
The ones that do work for Reaper! Really, my favorite really depends on the type of figure. Each one does different things that I really like.
Bodhi
Gael Goumon for me. His best stuff has not been done for reaper though but for his own line Mandragore miniatures. Herr Klocke was my first sculpting idol. Still is. Same here, his Freebooter stuff is better. My absolute favourites, Bob Olley and Kevin White, haven't done any work for Reaper as far as I know
axegrrl
My absolute favourites, Bob Olley and Kevin White, haven't done any work for Reaper as far as I know Reaper's Fantasy Figure Finder shows 67 from Bob Olley (including in and out of production pieces). Bodhi
Right you are. Silly me. I have even seen quite a few of them. It was his latest project "Dwarf world" that really opened my eyes to him though.
SaintRigger
I don't really have a favorite per se, but I do find myself often buying from the same sculpters repeatedly (unconsciously so, not looking for their work) This usually includes - Ben Seins (Big muscley things!) Bobby Jackson (Love his b'hoys as well!) Bob Ridolfi and Jim Johnson (undead crunchy things) Chaz Elliot (sharp pointy things) I also really really like (But don't like to paint) Sandra Garrity stuff - especially her animals (which I do like to paint, actually)
joshuaslater
Matt Gubser has done great work for Reaper and other companies. He could be a rising star in the mini world. I'm happy to see the progression Tim Prow has made from his early work in the gaming industry. Some people trash him for his early sculpts, but I'm not gonna say anything bad about anybody in the field--I haven't even sculpted one model yet, much less as many as this guy. pae
I like the work of just about every person who sculpts for Reaper (can't think of one I dislike, honestly). My favourite would have to be Werner though. I like Gael Goumon's work as well, but he really doesn't sculpt for Reaper so much anymore. I have alot of his EFS stuff, along with a few of his Fenryll pieces.
haldir
gotta agree with everyone when they say, different needs for different sculptors, thou Sandra has always been a favorite of mine (old schoold stuff talk here like her Partha stuff), but Werner is great, as is Bobby's. Gene Van Horne really has improved really fast, his Clarissa has one hell of face, can't wait to try stuff on that. Also like Matt Gubser is anther that is really climbing high on my list of favs as well. thou one of my favs will always be Bob Ridolfi, mainly cause the guy is a great person (as shown at ReaperCon) + like Sandra & of course his wife Julie, he will always remain a hey I remember that name when I first got into miniatures many many years ago RM
