Not because I consider him to be any better than anyone else, I happen to think they're all monstrously talented sculptors.. Bobby is a weird old 11B just like me. gospog Posted May 18, 2006 Share Posted May 18, 2006 Gene VanHorne is my overall favorite. The guy is a phenomenon. His work just grabs you and draws you in. He's subtle sometimes, too. Go look at his Skeletal Ooze. Then pick it up. It's such a simple sculpt but it just works. And his Pit Fiend is just amazing... Jason Wiebe has always been talented with animal sculpts but lately, he has really been blowing up with some awesome undead while still cranking out rhino-men and other animal types. Special mention should go to Tim Prow. I have a lot of his older stuff from Warzone and Chronopia in the early 90's. He has really improved and he's starting to really impress me. I'd be remiss to not give props to Werner Klocke and Bobby Jackson and Sandra Garrity as well. Oh, and I like all the Bob Ridolfi undead. (Poor guy's name is swapped around so much, lot of his stuff is listed under Weibe, so it won't show up in the FFF) He has sculpted some of my favorite Reaper Miniatures, and there's always a little something extra you can find in a lot of his figures. Little things that I often don't see until I start painting them and go...oh bleep...that's cool and/or funny as hell, how did I miss that at first glance. Bobby Jackon. I have more Bobby Jackson figures than any other sculptor (and I don't even play Crusaders and Overlords). I just love his figures. In fact, I love them so much, I have bought multiples of a number of them, because I have forgotten I already owned one, and thought...damn this is a sweet figure...gotten home, and realized I have had that same thought twice before. Does anyone want an Arran Rabin, Conjurer, I think I have like 4. I just love painting his figures too. They are nice and clean, with great details, but not so much that I just go insane. I am really enjoying Matt Gubser's newer figures, and quickly adding him to my list of favorites. I did not care so much for his Darkspawn grunts and archers, although there was one figure in each blister I did enjoy - the females in crouching poses. I want 12 of them--each in different color scheme. His bugbears are quintessentially bugbeary. I own many. (Shame on whoever discontinued the 2 pack) That female shaman proves his skill range extends to pretty things. She'd be great to paint in a diorama with a campfire in front of her with OSL. Extraordinary detail without all the Werner Klocke buckle fetish. That said, for the most part, all the new greens have been great for the most part. Mourningcloud Posted June 21, 2006 Share Posted June 21, 2006 Yeah, Sandra newer stuff is alot better; in another thread I recently advised Enchantra to stop painting old garrity's (many of them discontinued) if she really wanted to improve as a painter, especially in a contest; your painting will only be as good as the canvas you paint on (small faces and such). I really like Bobby Jackson's stuff; it has a life all its own. Werner's stuff is very well executed, though I give oodles of credit to Tal's artwork there. I find some of Werner's freebooter stuff far less-well executed conceptually; too Goth-Industrial/Bondage scene for me; (The professional ballet/modern dancers I know couldn't even get into those poses, let alone hold them long enough for a snapshot that is frozen in time as a sculpt!) I have to give cradit to his goblin's though-they are awesome. Mat Gubser is really coming along as well; I expect great things from him in the future. I like Gael's work, if I could increase the size of his sculpts by 5-10% I would buy them all. Now if we could only get Steve J Buddle from Coolminiornot to sculpt for Reaper. I don't know about heresy miniatures, but he has ended spyglass and was going to stop sculpting for a while. then he came out with a new mini, under a new name (SJB miniatures) that you can buy in the coolmini shop.
