Abyst demon - my ReaperCon DHL entry

OK, here is my first pic up in awhile, and my first large mini in nearly a year.

The skin & wings are 100% airbrushed. The trim around is belt/waist is Gold NMM. The sword I obviously ripped off from Lazlo - filing off the flames and painting faces. ^_^

The base was freehanded, and the demon was pinned to the base as the last step.

The judges comments for improvement, all of which I very much agree with, were "more highlights on the skin/wings, more highlights on the staff, better color choices for the base)

Love the skull belt!

Overall it's a nice solid paint job and I agree with the highlights. Gus, you should know better by now. :B): Bring those highlights up to white!

Did you freehand the base? Very nice, sharp angles on that.

Great piece Gus! I can only echo you, just like all of us tend to do you backed off the highlights too soon. Push them up a bit more and this boy will pop big time. Very solid clean job on the painting and I love the base!

Thanks for all the compliments, everyone! ^_^

I love the horns--what was your recipe for them?

Those horns gave me nothing but trouble. I hated the way I first did them, so after the mini was all done I held it upside down, took a cotton ball soaked in W&N Brush Cleaner, and scrubbed them to bare pewter. I then re-primed them and started over.

Unfortunately I didn't write down my color choices. I basically grabbed 4 different browns, and did nothing but washes on the horns. The very tips of the horns are probably still bare primer.
