vejlin
I pooled resources with my brother and we got us some Hirst Arts molds and a lot of plaster. Then we started casting like maniacs. Just a quick question to get an idea what's out there ruleswise. So what to do with this dungeon when it's not being used for D&D? I'm thinking along the lines of casual, fast playing rules good for a quick dungeon crawl. We're not talking role playing here but more like Diablo style hacking frenzy. Qwyksilver
You could become black lightning and run Warlord demos with it. I hear it's been a pretty popular event at Gen Con and Reaper Con
Heisler
I have been actually writing up how we run the Dungeon Crawl along with the various nifty charts. They are guidelines than hard and fast rules. I should finish them up this next week along with a couple of variations on adventuring warbands.
Marlfox
I've been working on something like this for a while now, but I've never tested it out. Unfortunately I can't demo as often as I used to (what with the infant and all). I used the Warlord Deathmatch rules and played with the rules a bit. Basically you created a "party" out of up to three models up to 300 points. The "DM" created a monster force equaling the parties' combined total points cost. The DM gets a bunch of wandering monster tokens and controls them. The parties search for treasure and fight monsters, and can fight each other too if they so desire. My problem is: I don't have a dungeon! Any ideas for how to resolve this problem? I'm a) to expensive to buy something from DwarvenForge, and b) to lazy to build it myself. vejlin
@Marlfox: That seems to rule out all the posibilities atleast for 3D dungeons. So either get less lazy or get more money. Or buy one of the many 2D dungeon systems. Those are a lot cheaper but also not nearly as nice. @Qwyk: So the Warlord rules work well for dungeon crawling? My brother is BL and is about to start up Warlord aswell (been doing CAV so far), so if Warlord works that would be great. @Heisler: Tell me more. Are these rules Warlord based? Outkast Samurai
There are a lot of variations on the god old dungeoncrawl. The one that Castlebuilder uses works wonderfully with the hidden dots that represent either treasure/trap/or encounter. When a model finds one of the colored dots (hidden under random bits of senery) they then get either the treasure amount or roll on a chart to see just how nasty of an encounter they've had. @Marlfox If I remember right MageKnight had some kind of thin plastic 3d dungeon stuff. Since its on the out perhaps you cound find a good deal for some on e-bay.
Lars Porsenna
So V, what sort of plaster are you using? I tried ordinary plaster, chips like crazy (even after being Future-dipped). I started using a plaster-like substance called Hydrocal, works better... Damon.
Sergeant_Crunch
A lot of folks use dental plaster with their molds. It's the same stuff they use to make dentures and such. I've priced it a few times and seems reasonable enough for the durability you get. I've been using regular plaster of paris, but my pieces don't get much use. Heisler
@Heisler: Tell me more. Are these rules Warlord based? Yes, we just use the Warlord rules with a few very minor modifications. These are the same rules that Castlebuilder uses for his demos too. I realized at Reapercon that we didn't all have quite the same information and I'm writing it up so we can all be a little more consistent when we run the demo, although I think the variations that have arisen just make it more interesting for the players when the demo guys switch out. So the Warlord rules work just fine for a dungeon crawl. I wouldn't even worry about balancing points, that's the GMs job anyway. He can do it on the fly. It was really hard to find dental plaster in Denmark (if you're not a dentist), so we tried out a product called "Rock plaster". It is very durable (and heavy) and we're pleased with it. Decado
This type of game really interests me. One question I have is could you build your "party" with Warlord minis from various factions to give a more D&D like feel and still use the Warlord rules? This would give me a chance to paint up some of the minis outside the dwarf faction without feeling guilty about not working on my dwarves :) Decado
Marlfox
In my rules system you can take any minis from any faction as long as their alignments don't conflict. So, one player could have a Evil party and the other can have a Good party. Or whatever. So, just like DnD, you can have a halfling rogue, dwarven fighter, and a elven sorceress, etc.
Decado
Marlfox, Are you using the Warlord rules or something you designed on your own? Decado
Marlfox
I use the Warlord rules, modified in similar ways as Warlord Deathmatch.
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted May 28, 2006 Moderator Share Posted May 28, 2006 Anybody wants the weapon cards for Warlord Deathmatch (and if they're not online somewhere), I can make them available...
