Storminator's Forgewalk Marches Tournament Grand Prix!

Recommended Posts

60 minutes, as the lady says. Should be more than enough time. IMX, a 1501 game plays in about the same time as a 1000.

I know you guys keep saying that, but my experience is more like what is written in the Warlord core book:

A two-player game of 1000 points per Side, which typically concludes in just under two hours...

Oh certainly not all the models are dead, but there's enough game played to score a winner.

If you play to the last model standing games do take longer.

PS

The time limit can definately change who would win the game if it went longer. Knowing that ahead of time will help with army construction.

sometimes, yes, sometimes, no.

in a 1 hour game your opponent can stall to kill time on the clock.

can [edit] there (not their) [edit] be a time limit per activation?

And it changes the tactics, but as long as everyone knows in advance, it's usually all cool.

I'd love to play every game right to the bitter end, but there are only so many hours in the day...

There are also additional points for gaining objectives in most of the games, so even if you kill the most points in models, you might lose the game still, since you ignored looting, killing off spell casters, protecting your own spell casters, controlling a key point, etc. So, there's more to it than just killing quickly within the time limit.

Next quesion. . .about scoring.

In most of Storm's tournies spells cast are counted against you, like a dead model. My question is, can the spells be counted agaisnt you only if the caster is dead?

If I bring a melee monster and give him GMW he gets to use that weapon for the entire game and at the end as long as he is still alive those are points you can count on, but if you bring a spell caster for every spell you cast you are losing points from your army. So in a army that relies on magic (Elves, Crypt Legion, Overlords lead by Ashkrypt), unless each spell takes down enough models to equal its point cost you are losing the game just by using the spells.

Good Question, I was thinking this the other day as well with regards to casters. I really don't like the idea that if I cast a spell it immediately goes into my opponents points against me tally in alot of the points systems that seem to be getting used. Is this fair? Why not, kill the caster, get it's total points cost including spells? Seems like a deterant to taking spells in my opinion.

It just means you can't go flinging spells around willy nilly and should make them count by being cost effective.

A 10 point bandage on a 3 track model to keep it at it's first track can easily count for way more than 10 points in additional kills.

A 50 point Fireball can kill 150 points of Dwarves.

It works both ways.

Make your spells count.

Making you spells count and counting them as a loss are two different things!

I agree that they should not count against you unless you lose the caster but that does not mean that is how you should score your tounaments.

If my caster dies w/o castimg the spell or if I cast them and the caster lives makes no difference other than the cost of the caster. This seems like a double wammy vs mages. In this format I only field clerics because it is hard to make mages PAY for themselves.

I'm fine playing this way as long as I know ahead of time. ::D:

Spells cast count against you. Killing more than your opponent grants 7 victory points. Keeping your highest CP spell caster alive at the end of the game grants 2 victory points.

Darthiir, the difference between spells and a melee model w/ GMW, is that the melee model is at far greater risk of death. He must get into B2B to score points, and so he's in danger of losing every point he brought. Mages (and Clerics...) can cast their spells and run away, especially in a timed game. If I decide to toss a couple Lightning Bolts then run and hide, I'm almost assured of a) killing models with the LB, and b) never dying.

*shrug* I think the scoring works. I've seen magic heavy, melee heavy, and archery armies do well in SFWMTGP, so I'm pretty happy with the scoring. I will get a full rule set posted this weekend.

Just asking questions. I've played and won with these rules, I was just wondering.

Good thing I'm actually going to not only have time to play in some tourneys now, but I can actually stay for the entire time and not have to take a third place finish because I had to forfeit my third round because I had to leave.

Time to start dragging some people down as I claw my way up
