Silver Age Superheroes!

Anyone interested in playing a light-hearted, Silver-Age style superhero game?

Basically, the setting revolves around a standard superhero metropolis (a utopia when the sun's up and hell when the sun sets) and its vigilant, valorous, patriotic defenders. Everything in the world is themed after the cheesy fashion seen in those old-school comic books, meaning you'll see goofy inventions (Gamma Alpharian Ray Distortion Device), weird sayings (Gosh! Golly! Gee Willikers!), and very stereotypical, scheming, nefarious, villains with names like The Cackler or Doomsday. As for the playing style, nothing too fancy like official stats or any of that. All you really need is a character idea and his/her powers and a little about the origins, weaknesses, strenghts, etc.

Around 4-5 players should be enough for a decent superhero league/team/alliance. One to three days between posts, preferably.

So, anybody want in? ::):

Damn, we were just talking about this during my Thursday gaming group, and possibly taking a break from AD&D and doing some Golden Age style Mutants and Masterminds. Or at least doing some one shot adventures when the entire group cannot make it.

Count me in.

madcobaia- Hey, first time for everything. As long as you know how to role-play and type it into words storyline-style, your welcomed to play! ^_^

Unglef- Sorry, for got to clarify that. Regarding the silver age, I was talking about the theme around the game, not a specific game system. The game is not going to be in a techno, Matrix-like style seen in today's comic book, cartoon, and movies, but rather in an older, more nostalgic style.

Excellent! Now to come up with a suitably cheesy super. I think I'll install Freedom Force to get in the mood. I haven't done any role playing since '94, nobody else I know was interested in it when I moved. I'm sure I can pick it up.

Here's the setting:

*****

Vigil City. A beautiful metropolis. The wealth, luxury, and pride of the American way of life can be witnessed by the city's tall, magnificent eddifices, stretching to the sky like mighty giants. The people live happy, enjoying the opportunities a capitalist lifestyle has granted them. Life, of course, is good.

At least, it was...

Mothers clutch their children closely. Blinds slide shut while doors slam close. Outside, gangsters and thugs prowl the street, wrecking and pillaging. Giant, mutant rats crawl out from the darkness of the sewers and rampage across the city. Underneath this chaos, the insidious forces of evil plot and scheme in secrecy, set on taking over the city and the world in their selfish, uncaring quest for power.

Who will come forth and protect the innocent from harm? Who will stand and fight back against this tide of evil? Who will rise to become the ultimate defenders of Vigil City?

Only time will tell...

*****

Alright, if your interested, send me a PM with your superhero's basic character, including his name, powers, looks, personality traits, strenghts, weaknesses, and origin (as in how he got his power and why he/she is using it for the better good of mankind).

The game is set around the post-Vietnam era, but for the purpose of the mood, it might switch to modern and such in ways often see in long-runnign comics that exist even today. As for a definite time period, the game takes place during the late Cold War era (so stuff like treasonous espionage and totalitarianism can jump in as antognizing forces).

Ugh, need to write down my character stuff still. Maybe I can get it done at work today.

I am actually going to be traveling and my internet access will be very limited from the 25th - 7th since I am heading to Origins. It's not so much that I can't get the internet at my mother-in-laws, it's just that they have dial-up and if my father-in-law sees me near a computer, he's going to have about 3 million "I'm computer illiterate and not going to really listen to your answers, do it for me" questions
