Ceynuundra Aelvari - Elven High Command (1.2)

Remember that the deployment zone is only 12"x24". A 5" Radius circle will hit just around 1/4 of a persons army. The elves will be in range, 36" + Ranger move.

For Mage heavy, archer heavy, and low dv armies; this will be a BIG deal. That warlord could earn all of his points back before the enemy could even move...

Thats one hell of a way to start off a game.

Useful all the time... nope, but like many said in other Volley topics, Volley is not useful all the time, and probably never will be.

Only useful if most of the enemy army is hidden - no targets available except with Scrye Shot. Otherwise, 1/4 of a person's army is 7-10 models? So that is giving up 3-4 RAV 6 attacks and 18 RAV 3 attacks just to get 7-10 RAV 3 attacks. I don't see it. In fact I think it will be much more useful to put the Vale Archers in a different command from the Warlord so that the Warlord can knock down hard targets with 4 RAV 6 attacks (or a RAV 10 Critical Shot and 2 RAV 6 attacks) and then the Vale Archers can finish them off with RAV 3 attacks at a lower DV rather than having to shoot at the same time.

Except then you are using the 30" range, and not the extra 6" from Volley, and will likely still be outside of the Deployment Zone, even with Ranger movement.

You're not trying to use the pie plate o doom to wipe out the big guys. You're trying to wipe out all the soldiers and low DV casters, leaving the larger tank models without support and defense so you can then mob them with your melee troops.

That can be done now, yet nobody does it. The only thing the Warlord brings is the Scrye Shot.

Exactly, which means instead of leaving your Archers, exposed and in the open to do their Volley, which most people will not do because they are so fragile and expensive, you can leave them safely behind protective cover. So you will be more likely to actually see it happen.

elves don't have melee troops. ::P:

Too right , they're called speed bumps .

Although I once had a game V Hellsgate and held up a Krungsbeast for 3 turns with a single Vale Warrior .

Okay enough dribble and drooling. I love the fact that Reaper used the initial for the EAWOD as his actual name, that is just pure genius. . . and it makes it easier on us who have been calling him that for weeks now anyway. I now have my new Warlord for 1501 games.

I am interested in his fluff, having the last name Silverrain, he must be related to Lorielle of the Merc faction. While fluff doesn't matter much when it comes to actual tabletop battles it will be interesting to see what the peeps at Reaper say about this relationship.

Thanks guys for giving the Elves a leader that can shoot!!!!

I've been having stunning success with this guy. He really cleans house! Here is the basic 1500 point list I've been playing with:

Troop 1:

Eawod

13 Vale Archers

Troop 2:

Meridh

8 Vale Warriors

Troop 3:

Arnise

6 Deathseekers

Troop 4:

Centaur

I deploy most of Troop 1 along one side of my deployment zone, near the best terrain (all but 2 archers, whom I place somewhere on the other side of the DZ). After deployment, I ranger move Troop 1 behind the best terrain. For the first 2-3 turns of the game, Troop 1 does a 5" RAV 3 'pie-plate-o-doom' against opposing archers / low DV stuff, while troops 2 & 3 just hang WAY back (like along side the back of the board), ready to intercept anyone rushing to Troop 1. About turn 4 or 5, my opponent is finally getting near Troop 1, so I break them up and start firing direct shots.

It's been working great so far! :bday:
