Recommended Posts

Playing my first 1,000 point battle next weekend. My opponent will be using overlords. Pimped out Ashcrypt with the anti-paladin bodyguard. Could use some suggestions battling this faction and assembling my army.

Here's what I have for models:

Khong-To

Nai-Khannon

Ra'am

T'Kay

Audt

Ssaudi

SSauthus

Archers x6

Skull breakers x6

Longstrikers x6

Clutchlings x6

Warriors x9

Uru

River Troll

the Clutchlings, archers, and Uru are a must. At 1000pt I would proxy Kong-To as a Chai-Uut as Kong takes you back significantly in your model could as i discovered today i'd also say stay away from the longstrikers, maybe proxy them as some rangers. Nai-Khannon would also take you back a bit too much as well but the Ra'am should do fine.

Totem of Battle

This is the 100 point list I've been using to good effect over the last few games. I had originally put 2 Longstrikers in troop 1 but they are lackluster at best unless you are facing either hordes of troops or assassins where you'll learn to love the 360 SA.

Because Ssathus has 360 and Rogue which comes in real nice when you can have him slide in behind your target and get that +2 rear bonus. Then if someone tries to get into your rear base side to prevent getting defensive struck its nice to inform them that you don't have a rear side and then roll to hit them back.

no troop "carries" the totem, unless you want them to, but usually, you just plunk it down in the corner of the table, or some spot that is tough to get to and leave it there.

Tactics against Olords?

Well, both are fairly well matched in that for the most part both a melee based groups. Olords are very balanced between elites, adepts, grunts, and solos. They really have a ton of options in how they can approach any given battle. Which in turn makes it diificult to suggest what strategy to take againt them.

I guess the two best suggestions I could really make are:

1. concentrate on making a good solid list of your own.

2. once the models are deployed, do a good thorough job of recognizing what your opponent is fielding, and make your strategy at that point.

If there is Balthon the priest, be wary of a possible teleport...

If there is the Wyvern, obviously there are poison issues to deal with

If there are crossbows, then keep in mind their ability to rank up behind others and fire.

Lich Warlord has a high CP.

Cavalry are fast... duh :)

Remember their leaders have the ability to transfer damage to surrounding henchlings.

Again, just too well balanced to give any specific advice

Check to see if you have a first or second printing of the rulebook; if you have a first printing, you won't find Divine Favor. If you do have a 2nd printing, it is the very last piece of equipment, immediately following the spells section.

As an ammendmant to Stubb's post, that ability of leaders to redirect damage only works on your defensive strikes, so feel free to pound away on the leader as much as possible during your own attacks. Also, depending on what model the leader has in B2B with it, attacking the leader on the defensive strike may still be a good idea, as the situation dictates.
