Humansquish
I've had him used against me once. While I was working on taking down his last river troll, Ra'am was running around putting the smack down. I can't wait to use him in one of my armies. Hellsgate
I'm sure it looks MUCH better than my primed river troll. When I get started I bet I can paint worse than you. You'd be amazed at how much even a simple paint job can kill a model, and i'll take that bet. if you nead some convicing the best "painted" unit in my only remotly finished army (GW:Empire) are the knights and there armour was done in permanate marker (quight effective for a matalic black ).but i think that i'm finaly lerning to paint after 4 years as my Kong-to looks amazing (atleast next to my other models) and once i can get my camera to work i plan to put it up. Give me a run down on your successes/failures with this guy.Kong-to Jr. thats the best way to use him. Use him as a cheaper alternative if you don't have the points for Kong-to himself. Or feild the pair and realy tick the enemy off p.s. purple works well with green
Humansquish
Take Khong-to with Nai-Khannon and Ra'am in the elite slots. Expensive, but thats got to be nasty.
mooseyjoe
I was puzzling over this problem a bit and I came up with another use for Ali, I mean Ra'am. Put him in a troop with a pile of breakers, chai uut, and himself. Give the cap'n and ra'am some armour so they have staying power. Now you have a force that would really stomp the pants off of most anything in a fight. They attack, and you get a bazillion attacks at at least +3. They get attacked, you still have a bazillion attacks at plus three. I also like the clutchlings idea. I'm thinkin this is how he will see his first action. he may go down , but thats ok. He's gonna whoop butt. Ra'am was by far the most fun to paint of all my lizards, and I am quite proud of him. Once I get a good pic he will go up in show-off. edit: O yeah, I forgot. Just cuz I finished the reptus (except the cannon) doesn't mean I'm done. Next in line are My dad's necros, my barbarians and lupines, 60 some dwarves, and both sides of the Narnia movie. And that's just armies. It doesn't include individual bits of coolness like Cretus the minotaur and various other armyless things. Now if I were wo try to paint things for all the other games (Lotr, chinese historics, 40k, etc. etc. etc.) I could really start to get discouraged. But at least my army is done. Stubbdog
Correction, its not done... its never done.... its just waiting to recruit a few more troops that's all... Remember, Ra'am is not unique...
mooseyjoe
I know. I also have a converted DHL lizardman to act as his twin's proxy. And your right about the reinforcements. Today I was looking at the reptile shelf and started thinking I could get a bit more tactical variety If I had about 3 more warriors...
Hellsgate
I had a 1500pt game today against a cript legion (sorry about spelling ) and took both Khon-to & Nai-Khannon, each with a greater magic weapon of course , and they realy are nasty. And they would of been nastier still if i could of gotten to those 3 #%@# banshies . sadly though i must say that it's was a loss on my part. if you do use them both, use Kong-to's 2nd elite slote to take a t'kay and through another t'kay in a second troop (both with bandages) as the t'kay in the troop can bandage one when one falls prior to its activation and the 2nd so that they don't just send wave after wave of grunts on each turn (as both will take down at least 2 grunts on defencive strikes with there 4 warmastered attacks (taking into acount greater weapon)) there will always be a spot for a new grunt to fill and you atleast get an extra chance to eliminate the effects of those lucky 10's. the camera that i was using is too sencitive to glare so i well not be able to get a pic up on reaper games
Stubbdog
I am sure that would be a nasty couple together, especially with GMW. But, its also very expensive. Not sure I could put those kind of points into only two characters for a 1500 point game. I mean that would be more than 1/3 of the total points in just 2 models. mooseyjoe
I was doing stuff like that for a while when I first got started just because I had so few models. I had a lot of fun with my big billy-bad-butt heroes, but I never wona game (or at least not a 1 on 1). Now that I have so many models I like to use as many of them as possible and hardly ever bring much of anything in the way of eqipment.
Stubbdog
Don't get me wrong, that would be fun to pack that much of a punch. If you and your opponent agreed to some kind of total model limit where you knew that both players would end up having some kind of powerful character, I think that would be fun to do. But, without having some sort of knowledge that your opponent is going to go with mob tactics where 10s are rolled too often to overcome them with equipment, then murphy's law starts mounting the odds against you. We frequently play 1000 points, 4 models: warlord, elite, 2 grunts. Those guys are perfect for that game. PS

spiritual_exorcist
Alright, played a game yesterday which saw Hellsgate ring alot of clutchlings. I didn't see them as being hugely effective, as they were deployed in small units with no support. What I did find impressive was how fast they could move, any suggestions as to how to best use these, and what to combine them with to make them effective? Outkast Samurai
How I use them to the best effect is to have them run as back up to my bloodlust combat monsters. Depending on the point size of the game they work with everyone from Khong-to to Raam. Before the clutchlings came along I found that I really couldn't use bloodlust as effectively as I can now without risking leaving them unsupported. Yeah they can charge 10"-12" but what good it that if they get swamped by the enemy. Clutchlings are also good at threatening to tie archers up in close combat letting them take the arrows that would normally pincushion my more devastating models.
