Shakandara
And I would rather have faced Ranz in the 1st or 3rd round than drawn two Reptus vs. Reptus battles in 3 outings. Toss in the fact that the current reporting system can't accurately handle same-faction battles, and it just makes it less appealing to me. Don't get me wrong, Pete, I'm not trying to make an issue out of the tournament rules. nor how you chose to keep earlier pairings from repeating (I was glad that Stubb and I didn't have to play each other twice in two days). I also understand that part of your pairing issues were based on the number of participants and the various time slots. I still had an awesome time, and I *am* glad I got to play both Stubb and Doc. I just would have rather had it be because either they or I were fielding a different faction... ~v
spiritual_exorcist
Avoiding same faction battles is an awefully difficult proposition in this type of tourney, it probably would be possible, but it would add I dimension that would be fairly time consuming, and annoying to accomplish. I don't see any reason for it either. Why does facing ones own faction matter? (Other than in terms of posting reports, which is understandably frustrating) Nearly any sort of same faction battle can easily be explained, and in some instances may be a regular occurance. Shakandara
Actually, implementation would have been incredibly easy in this tournament, especially in the later advancement rounds. It's not like we were advancing in brackets; we were drawn random opponents. When you have 3 out of 8 armies being one faction, it's not terribly difficult to assign each one of those players to a given table, then randomly draw their opponent. Just as it wasn't that difficult to avoid drawing repeat opponents by using the same method. As for the politics of fighting one's own faction... of course you can explain it, with enough work. But it does make a hell of a lot more sense when there are other opponents to be had, that you would choose them and not your own kind. Sivrel
I think the real question about Reptus fighting each other is whether or not they would eat each other.

Hellsgate
I think the real question about Reptus fighting each other is whether or not they would eat each other. Wether it's a different fraction, opposing reptus force or even a fallen brother, meat is meat. And in the later who wouldn't consider it an honour to be eaten by a brother in arms (or sister/cousin in arms in the case of T’Kay/the Nagendra’s). madcobaia
It would seem that due to events beyond my control (college and work, mostly) I mainly do minis during the summer. Sad, I know. In any case, I went back and re-did my list from many moons ago. Let me know what you think of it as a general thump-all list. With more practice, I should be able to work on specific lists. Troop 1 Chai-Uut 77 pts Ssudai 45 pts -Ice Shard x3 30 pts -Firestorm 75 pts Archers x3 123 pts Warriors x3 92 pts subtotal= 419 pts Troop 2 Audt 44 pts Breakers x3 72 pts Warriors x3 69 pts Clutchlings x3 60 pts subtotal= 245 pts Troop 3 Uru 71 pts subtotal= 71 pts Total= 744 This leaves me with 15 points less than 250, and I'm not sure what to mess with from here. Take an Ice Shard away from Ssudai and add another warrior/clutchling/breaker somewhere? switch positions around? Scratch the whole thing and go watch cartoons? As always, any input would be highly valued.
Shakandara
Troop 1Chai-Uut 77 pts Ssudai 45 pts -Ice Shard x3 30 pts -Firestorm 75 pts Archers x3 123 pts Warriors x3 92 pts subtotal= 419 pts Troop 2 Audt 44 pts Breakers x3 72 pts Warriors x3 69 pts Clutchlings x3 60 pts subtotal= 245 pts Troop 3 Uru 71 pts subtotal= 71 pts Total= 744 Well, first off your 1st troop has 3 warriors incorrectly listed at 92 points; should be 69. But your final troop total is correct. Moving on... I'd suggest triming the spell list; 750 points battles are quick and bloody, especially if you are playing Reptus. Drop the Firestorm to a Fireball (really, how many more targets are you likely to have the opportunity to target in this small of a battle?), and ditch two of the Ice Shards. Use one of the ditched Ice Shards to take a Divine Favor for someone; either Ssudai (to make sure he gets the chance to use both spells), or on a leader like Chai-Uut to keep him on that first track as long as possible. Then I'd ditch the 3 breakers, use the extra points to buy another Audt, move the 3 warriors from Troop 1 to the new troop with the 2nd Audt, and then get 2 more warriors (one for each unit with Audt), move one Clutchling to the new troop, and buy one extra clutcling. Final list would be: Troop 1 (325) Chai-Uut w/divine favor (87) Ssudai w/fireball, ice shards (115) 3 Archers (123) Troop 2 (176) Audt (44) 4 Warriors (92) 2 Clutchlings (40) Troop 3 (176) Audt (44) 4 Warriors (92) 2 Clutchlings (40) Troop 4 Uru (71) Total: 748 Init Cards: 4 Model Count: 20 YRMV. ;) And speaking of 750 point battles, my dwarven opponent on Sunday afternoon found an entirely new strategy for defeating me... not adding the cost of Fulumbar into his army total. He was 83 points over. ~v

Moving on... That's the problem with updating old lists... somewhere along the line, you always forget to change a value, especially if you start the post and change the list while posting. I'll give the list a try and see how it goes. Now all I need to do is paint up the army and get the out to the flgs. So much to do!

rcrosby
swich the 3 archers with the warriors/clutchlings in one of the other troops (alowing you to threaten a larger area for longer), up grade one warrior in each troop to a skullbreaker and hold them behind the warriors so that they don't get pincushined (same with the clutchlings). It can be useful to have the mage and archers in the same troop so that the mage can ice shard a high DV target and then the archers can finish it off at a lower DV all in one activation. Cohesion is largely irrelevant, so you can spread out your models however you wish no matter how they are organized if that is what you desire. I'm not a fan of fireball. You get over twice the area of effect from a firestorm for only 25 points more plus coup de grace all stunned models. If you can't afford the firestorm, then skip the fireball and spend the points elsewhere. Rich
drjsallison
I don't use archers in games under 1500 points. With the heavily armored warriors at DV 11 and Deflect, I can usually march across the field in large numbers and wipe my opponant off the map. Spells are of little use as well. I just use a huge number of warriors and clutchlings and call it "Lizard Swarm"
Outkast Samurai
I always field my archers. They have pulled victory out of nowhere more times than I can count and have the record for taking out the biggest nasties I've faced.

drjsallison
I ran my Reptus for a record of 35 wins out of 38 battles, and fielded archers only 6 times. (4 of which were in the ReaperCon tourney). Plenty of these wins have been against elven all ranged foes and Sarecs nasty all shooty Merc force. I think Archers can be a benifit in big tourneys, but on the whole, I wouldn't ever field them in a game less than 1500 points.
