mrbuddylee
Hi folks, I am planning on becoming a black lightning team member, but I had a couple questions that I didn't think about asking at Gencon. If someone wants to answer these questions offline, that's cool with me, my email is: [email protected] Real quick: 1) A lot of stores around here don't stock or are out of Casketworks issues. Can Reaper send me like 10 of those to hand out to attendees at my events? 2) Has anyone had any lucky convincing stores to offer like 5% off Reaper purchases made at demo or painting events? 3) I know I need to use Reaper paints at the event (of course), do I need to use Reaper brushes too though? Thanks, I'll be making my initial event schedule with a couple stores here soon, just wanted to ask a couple questions first. Many thanks! -Brad

Can Reaper send me like 10 of those to hand out to attendees at my events? Yes. We can certainly do that.2) Has anyone had any lucky convincing stores to offer like 5% off Reaper purchases made at demo or painting events?I have no actual confirmation of this, but you are welcome to try. Others may be able to tell you their experiences.3) I know I need to use Reaper paints at the event (of course), do I need to use Reaper brushes too though?Reaper Brushes are a bit to pricy for what you'll usually want at a PNT - you'll probably want a disposable 50¢ or $1 brush like you;d find ata a craft store. Most PNT brushes are heavily abused, because most new painters aren;t aware yet of proper brush-care techniques. While we do ask that everything you use be Repaer, brushes are typically the exception to that rule - I'll reccomend not using Reaper Brushes as free handouts. You should use them yourself, however. But it wouldn't be so good to throw away 10 $6 brushes every weekend . . . Thanks, I'll be making my initial event schedule with a couple stores here soon, just wanted to ask a couple questions first. Many thanks! -Brad
Erion
My FLGS has a standard policy of anyone who makes a purchase the same day they play a demo gets 10% off their purchse of the demonstrated game's products. It works pretty well to move rulebooks and starter boxes.
Shakandara
I had an arrangement at the last store I did demos at that anyone that played a demo could get a 10% discount on Reaper products that day. I'm hoping to work out the same arrangement with the new store I'm doing demos at now. ~v
SaintRigger
Hey Buddy, Bryan has takencare of the first question for you.... The next question will vary from store to store. I have a pretty good relationship with the owner of my FLGS and we can often work out deals and promotions for certain events. Perhaps you can talk to them about printing up coupons that are distributed at demo events and redeemable for Reaper Products - or have a "sale" on demo days. Brushes will indeed get *HAMMERED* on at painting events. Very often these are people learning how to paint and they don't really know proper brush care. What Jenna and I like to do is occassionally pick up packs of Plaid brushes at Sprawl*Mart (They have a nice 4 pack for $5 or so with a 3, 1, 0 and 00 in it) and use those for demo brushes. Since these are the brushes I used to use - I had a bunch on hand that I was able to rotate into the P&T brush pool. I also tend to put my old brushes in there when I replace my personal brushes. Windsor and Newton Brush Restorer is a Bob-send for P&T brushes as it can very often fix all but the most horrendous cases of brush abuse. If you have *ANY* questions, don't hesitate to ask - there are lots of people who will help you out with ideas.
Mengu
My FLGS has a standard policy of anyone who makes a purchase the same day they play a demo gets 10% off their purchse of the demonstrated game's products. It works pretty well to move rulebooks and starter boxes. Our FLGS does pretty much the same deal. And the person running the demo can actually get like a 15-20% off. We also have a paint club, and pretty much everyone who comes to the paintclub gets a 10% off miniatures and miniature supplies that day. Same deal with tournaments. So it's certainly not unheard of, you should ask.
vutpakdi
Another good source of relatively inexpensive brushes is Michael's or Hobby Lobby when they have a 40-50% off all brushes sale. Just keep an eye out for them: the sales seem to come up every month or two. The downside of paint and takes is that the upfront cost and prep work can be more than the Warlord demos if you already have a Warlord company or two and you want to have a set of paints, brushes, etc specifically for the paint and take rather than do your own. Having your FLGS request a paint and take kit for you does defray the cost a bit. Ron

If the store you do demos at joins Reaper's business program, they get listed on Reaper's web site and can get goodies. One of these is a free PnT kit every month and a half or so. It has some paints, brushes, and some free minis. It's a great deal for the store and a big help to the guy running the demo. mrbuddylee
Hmm, thanks a lot guys for the great replies! I will be sure and get some cheap brushes. I started out using some cheap brushes, so people learning to paint can too :) One store in particular has a very small selection of Reaper miniatures, but a large selection of reaper paints so I'm hoping that getting some painters involved will be a little easier there. The stores around here don't like giving discounts though. I'm hoping that if I get a decent turn out then they'll change their mind. The manager I talked to the other day said they haven't had a demo of ANY game in their store for over a year.... It's strange, but game stores around here are just a little "off" compared to stores I've seen elsewhere. Thanks again. -Brad

It's not much, to be sure, but a couple of blisters every now and then add up.
