I'm interested in seeing a few lists also.

I haven't gotten to play except at GenCon 05, and I don't know how many points were involved in the games I played. They were mainly to give me a familiarity with the rules, and didn't really have the time to go into force organization.

If you guys(and gals) can give a few examples of force organizations you use, it will help me plan purchases to get my first taskforce on the table.

Thanks,

Aegis

For the task force you will need a few primary platoons and possibly a secondary platoon. It is as simple as that.

I am sure it is that simple for someone who has played the game. I have the beta rules and that's about it. I would like to see a list using beta rules CAV2 with available models and a total around 2000pts. After I get an idea of what a reasonable list looks like, I plan to purchase, paint, and demo the game at my local FLGS. I play Warlord. Based on the rules of that game, a newb could buy some figs that break the rules for constructing a company or aren't very useful together and therefore don't see much of the gaming table. Warlord also has boxsets that make buying a little easier. A newb wants to play Warlord and I recommend a starter set. The want more then I recommend a Sgt and a blister or two of soldiers. Then, a solo and so on. I can also go to the forum and find several 1000pts lists for the currently available factions. Help a newb ::):

Hmm, most of my lists are geared towards 3000 points. I'll have to see what I can do for 2000.

Thanks. I am just trying to get started. 2000pts will be nice because I plan to purchase two factions for a demo. 3000pts will push the cost up.

I put a few lists together to get some feedback. After a little tweaking, I will be buying two of these. Which do you like a why? One consideration is cost. Each of these cost around $50 or less.

What is your favorite 2000pts list? I would like to get an idea of players 2000pt lists using CAV2 beta rules/stats.

Unlike Warlord, most CAV lists are geared toward 1500 or 3000 points. Usually, you need 1500 points to build a standard 4 model armor platoon, which may or may not include room for upgrades and strikes, depending on how many points your models cost.

Here's a Templar list I've run in the past that's done pretty well.

Armor I

Warlord

Duelist

Lance

Armor II

Sovereign III

Flail

Flail

Flight

Crossbow

Crossbow

Points 1999

I thought that Armor Platoons had to have 4 models of CAV or Tank type. When I only had room for 3, I changed it to a Specialist plattoon, which seems to be the catch all. If I am wrong on this one, someone help me out.

Nope. You are dead on Dewen but the Templar have an Army SA that allows them to take one less model in Armor and Specialist platoons.

Cool, thanks for the info. I need to brush up on the faction stuff. After I read your post, I read the CAV2 beta rules. I need to consider these when creating my lists.

I like your approach to the army lists. ::): For controlling costs in both for RL and CAV world, I like to do mixed armor platoons with CAV and tanks. I think it also gives a better demo to show more different types of models. Along that line of thinking I like your Adon list best because it has a little bit of everything: CAVs, tanks, infantry, and air units. ::D: It looks like your other lists are pretty close to having each of those 4 types of models too.

Note, that having combined arms is just my personal preference and what makes sense to my brain for a representative demo. I'm still kinda' new and my ideas are still suspect - even to me. It seems the more conventional wisdom for a winning force gives stronger emphasis on CAV only or CAV-strong task forces.

Thanks. That is part of my motivation in the lists. The CAV and Tank mix for the Armor platoons is just less expensive and gives spectators a taste of different model types. I am trying to show a little of everything and keep the cost reasonable.
