Erion
Before I've seen any of the army books, its 8.5/10. Rules summary sidebars /turn steps would have been nince. That's mostly becaus some of the rules require re-re-reading before they become clear, and there are a couple of VERY important point I missed in my first run through the rules, like the fact that units without officers need to have a leadership point spent to activate them. I imagine part of that is stuff that happens in Translation. That said, once I got my brain wrapped around the rules, the gameplay is very solid and innovative in the way it handles things like line of sight, wound allocation, and making officers worth taking. The minis are well-sculpted, and the best looking pre-paints on the market in any genre. Some of them have some noticable mold lines, but since I have no desire to re-paint them I won't be taking those off.
Nanite
And for those who can't leave well enough alone (me), the minis paint up really well, even over the original paint.
Doombringer
And for those who can't leave well enough alone (me), the minis paint up really well, even over the original paint. well i got my damocles set and have to say i was pretty impressed. the minis are decent and considering i dont paint it's nice to have 2 fully painted forces. if i get ambitious i can see myself going back and touching up odds and ends since im not being overwhelmed by having to paint the whole mini. i only got 1 therian with a mangled claw and HAD to try the hot water fix. i was amazed at how well it worked. a couple of seconds under hot tap water and i was able to shape the claw back to how it should be. after a little bit it may have been showing signs of rebending creep but ill check it when i get home and if it did then ill just fix it again but it was really bent bad to start. the only thing that i have to say bad about it is the fact that about 2 seconds after i took my fire toad out of the package i broke one of those teeny tiny hydraulic lines off of his leg. i was a little disappointed at that but now it gives me a reason to probably replace it with some steel wire. i was amazed to see the toad even had a deck of playing cards painted on it, i thought thtat was too cool! now ive heard that the paint is actually baked into the mini so if i decide to go and remove mold lines am i going to take paint off? oh and one last thing... are there supposed to be machine guns included to swap out on the toad? i cant wait to get home and give it a better look! Erion
Alternate weapons for firetoads are only included with the individual model boxes. And mold line removal = paint removal, from what I've heard.
Doombringer
thanks Erion. if i try any mold line removal ill definitely be sure to try in it a hard to see spot first.
Nanite
I'm just releived the Red Block are not quite out yet. I already spent this months mini-funds on CAV, and the Combined Army starter for Infinity.
Nanite
Just got the rulebook. All my AT-43 money is going into Karmans (Captain Simian and the Space Monkies?), seriously. Not just power armored gorillas, but power armored gorillas in hover-jets. Awesome
Nanite
I'm confused on the force construction rules in the main book. I have to take a core unit (of a certain type), but then do I have to go down the list in order? For example: if I want to take a firetoad, I have to have take another two units of troopers? Or after I have my core, can I just choose piecemeal, as long as I don't exceed the number of units in the army list?
Bilesuck
For example: if I want to take a firetoad, I have to have take another two units of troopers? Or after I have my core, can I just choose piecemeal, as long as I don't exceed the number of units in the army list? I do believe it is you take the required unit, then you can take what you want as long as you don't exceed the limit. Otherwise you have to do a complete platoon and then start a second one. Read the example on page 79 of the rule book. It talks about what you wanted, the compulsory unit then taking vehicles.
Nanite
So Fire Industries first concept for AT-43 is... Girders: http://www.fireindustries.com/concept.html If they make it cheap enough, and easy to build, it's worth picking up. Erion
The March and April Releases have finally arrived at the Warstore!
Nanite
They dropped at my FLGS today too. Assault Medusas are bigger than I expected, and rock the casba. TAC Arms are smaller then I expected, but still rock. All the Therian stuff looks great, right out of the box. The UNA Steel, and Star Troopers however, did not look so good. If I got them, repaints would be in order.
Erion
My assault medusas are waiting until next month, because I'm making a concerted effort not to spend more than a budgeted amount. It was easy to decide what not to get since I couldn't order the assault medusas from the Warstore anyway. Of course, next month = Tomorrow, though. The UNA paintjobs looking poor is disappointing, but not terribly so. I was only buying UNA unil I had enough models for decent demos, as Therians are my primary faction. I might pick up some of the heroes and one or two of the new striders as they're released, but I've got enough Steel Troopers, TacArms and FireToads to put a nice demo on the table. And Army Books, Of course. I'll likely do the same for Red Blok and Karmans.
Nanite
I don't really intend to buy more UNA or Therians, but this gives me enough to keep things interesting until the Karmans and Red Block hit. Although if it looks like I'll be re-painting Red Block infantry, I'll pass on them too.
Doombringer
i guess the painting is all in the eye of the beholder. i hate to paint, have nothing painted, and cant bring myself to try. one OD box, tacarms, and bane goliaths box later i have to say i like the paint jobs. my only complaints are that the eyes on the therians aren't painted like they show on the website, the humans could use a wash or something on the face and i can barely see my sergeants triangle on the tacarms. i can see myself adding a wash or 2 and dotting eyes a lot more realistically than painting a whole mini. this aspect i really find appealing. i can add details without being overwhelmed by having to paint the whole mini.
