It's like they asked exactly what I would want, then made it. Too bad it's pre-painted.

They're not to hard to repaint, you can either repaint without priming, or you can primer over the prepaint.

Sure, but the paint jobs have gotten just good enough to actually make me not want to re-paint them. Since most of my enjoyment is in the hobby aspect, I'm left with saying "boy, that's spiffy" and move on.

Saw some AT-43 in person and price is the only thing that kept me from buying, and I don't even know the factions/fluff yet. There was a mech type thing with rocket launchers and some infantry for $40. Russian's-of-the-Future faction I think.

Nothing about prepaints makes me interested. I've repainted several of the large mechs and it was a pain. They do absolutely no cleanup of the model after the individual parts are removed for thier sprues. Mold lines galore and in some cases it looks as though the parts were twisted off the sprue rather than cut. What you see on the "official" posted from rackham are studio models and as such are cleaned up. The alien faction looks cool...but not cool enough for me to jump in and buy any. Why Rackham dropped all pewter from thier product line is beyond me. Nothing about the upcoming Confrontation prepaints makes me jittery either. To me it's always mattered that the models have to be to my liking or I relegate the game to my "not to buy" list.

I like the initiation set, I picked it up from Thought Hammer for about $60 or so.

I am torn on pre-paints and their use. To me AT-43 is a quick throw on the table and play game; I am not a big time war-gamer, so I have no standing armies. When I do see war gaming at the local game store, usually about 88% of the armies are not painted (some aren't even primed). Heck the percentage is probably even higher than that.

I think this game is intended for folks who are more drawn to the actual gaming side and not the paint/model hobby side of things. Games like this (I am sure there will be more) allow someone with a limited budget and no desire to play. I believe someone already mentioned it, but a comparable army in metal unpainted minis would cost a lot more - not sure how that washed out for the extra little sets though...

I like it because I like Sci-Fi and I like games. I have stacks of boardgames that see play only once in a while, but i like to collect them just the same.

Hey Nanite!

The karman book is awesome.

I rifled through it at the FLSG. It is nice.

One bothersome trend I'm seeing with At-43: The designs within a faction are lacking in variety. For example, all the UNA vehicles are firetoad variations. It looks like most of the Karman vehicles are veriation of the Easy Trike. Therians and Red Blok fair a little better, with a couple unique walkers and infantry, but on the whole, the line could use some more imagination.

I know they're doing this for cost reasons, but it's just a concern.

I'm anxiously awaiting some glimmer as to what the mysterious Cogs will look like.

I love the pre-paints personally. Any company that does them will get my business. I think some companies (WotC, Rackham, Reaper, Mongoose) realize that not everyone likes panting. Some just like the gaming with pretty figures. ::):

We just raided Sci-Fi city yesterday (30% off prit near everything). The only thing we didn't get is the hero Red Blok figure. 25$ bucks for 1 figure? There is NOOOOOOOOOOO way to justify the cost based of the point value. I can just get a proxy and use the same stats. Silly Rackham.

Correct.

Also, I got my first batch of Karmans this afternoon, and they are easily the nicest models released yet for AT-43, in terms of both sculpts and paint jobs. I was literally raving at how nice they looked.

The new Therian Release (Sigma Urash) has also made a leap in terms of painting quality. Not that these weren't nice before, but these are a cut above what we'd been getting before.
