Reptus Concepts

Recommended Posts

NOTE: These are just my ideas not Reapers. I had the priviledge of doing a little bit of playtesting at the Asylum a month ago on a couple of Reptus things. But, nothing much came out of that at the time.

So, after thinking about it a little while, I started to think, what the heck, its not like I was expecting them to use these ideas even if Reaper could accept them directly. And it gives the opportunity for other people to give feedback in my ideas, which as we have seen numerous times, reaper does listen to feedback, so who knows, even if they dont use these ideas, maybe it will spark some ideas that were not previously considered.

So, with that in mind I give you some Reptus ideas that have been bouncing in my head over the last couple of months...

First I'll start off with datacards for models that I have been thinking up. My main thing was to come up with some cool new stuff, but try to save points where I could by not overloading any model with unneeded abilities. But, having said that, I don't include point in my cards cause I dont know the formulas and dont want to pretend to guess at the actual point cost of these.

SOLOs:

To represent the Reptus and their melee strong thinking, I wanted to start with the uber solo. The idea behind Brog was start with Uru and then make him live longer. For this one I actually used the Necropolis Bone solo as the starting point because it was a great powerful multi track uber guy but without costing 200+ points. Not wanting it to be the exact same, I changed a couple of things and took away flyer. To be honest, I was going back and forth on the warmaster part as well, if it will keep it below 200 points I would take it away.

concept-brog.jpg

Continuing theme of mainly streemlined melee, that hopefully would fit into the Repti fold, my next solo idea was that of a Hydra. Thumos (meaning to Rage violently) to me is also kinda like Uru. Not meant to stay alive forever, just suppose to cause a lot of havoc while he's there. Again, not sure on the warmaster part from points perspective, but it fit the overall idea of a hydra and many heads. Also, of question is the speed. I like the idea of it being a fast land beast, but if its too expensive, then I'd drop it down a notch in move.

concept-thumos.jpg

So, now that I had a couple of melee solos, I needed a solo that had a little more diversity. But, still needed to fit in with the whole Dragon, reptile, snake, troll theme... so now comes the Basilisk, introducing its new SA of innate paralyzing gaze. Not an uber melee monster (tho not totally week as a basilisk shouldnt be), but one that should still make opponents think twice when attacking him. I picture the SA:innate paralyzing gaze as something like a hold spell but with a limited range and AOE. I would like to see it have something like a range of 6 to 10 with say a cone shape. What would be really cool is if somehow it could be a pre-charge action, but I know I am asking too much for that.

concept-bas.jpg

LEADERs:

So, now that I have a few new solos, I decided I needed to add to the leaders. I know Reaper will come out with a few to choose from, so I only came up with a couple that I thought would work.

First is a captain. A hard hitting fellow. He only has a single attack. But he balances that with the possible idea of a standard model sized unit having swingthru. With a little higher MAV, he can base up two enemies and attack each, but also do it on defense. This was one fo those where I did not know if a single attack with swingthru was more or less expensive than 2 attacks with warmaster. But, I thought would be an interesting twist to the norm.

concept-cptn.jpg

For a Sgt, I actually came up with an adept unit that I liked, and needed someone to be able to lead them, and so this Sgt was the answer. The name of the game for this one is speed. Fairly straight forward and simple design other than that.

concept-sgt.jpg

ELITEs:

So, now with a couple of leaders on the table, I was trying to think of some elites. I will be honest here, coming up with elites is really tough. Mainly cause the Reptus already have a very good balance. They dont have as many options as some of the other factions, but for the most part all options they do have are well done.

So, I did not spend a bunch of time brainstorming this area, well, just cause nothing popped in my head like the other areas did.

I did figure that it would be cool to have a dragon based mage rather than nagendra based. So, if someone wanted to field all dragonmen, they could. This would be a little bit of a lesser mage compared to Ssudai, but also more streamlined, not worried about melee, just casting.

concept-mage.jpg

ADEPTs:

Man, I could probably think of adepts all day long.. So, trying to only post a few today.

Funny thing is, my first adept idea that I had was Nagendra poison spitters. But, I had never told anyone, and then what was it? About two weeks ago they all of a sudden show up on the Alliance distributor website as soon to be released items. So, cool, they got my brainstorm even before I got the chance to tell them. Now lets just hope they also got my mind sketch of what they would look like.

So, as I said I could think of adepts all day, so trying to limit how much I post right now caus eI know you guys are getting bored by now. Oddly enough, most of my ideas actually revolve around the Nagendra. As mentioned above, I came up with just a simple fast speed adept, not as hard hitting as a Darkspawn adept, but a little better DV (as that fits the Reptus scaly hardshelled persona) to have a little better surviveablity to get across the board than clutchlings.

concept-swift.jpg

And I had to try to come up with some new kind of adept for the dragonmen side of things. I know the poison spitters might negate the ability to have these (dont want to have too many spitters so to speak), but I really like the idea of a breathe weapon, in the form of a very minor breathe weapon. That is they would still be mainly melee units, as they have to get close, but if they could get close, then they could do a very short blowthru type attack. Hopefully by keeping the range to something very short like 3 to 4 inches, it wont make this adept unaffordable point wise. I also only gave it a RAV2, thinking that since the range is so short, that they will have to get inside of pointblank range anyway, so their affective RAV would be a 3.

FACTION SA ideas:

Switching gears, now I will share a few of my thoughts related to the faction, and possible SAs, sublists, etc...

First, I thinik its important to talk about the faction itself and how it breaks down. As everyone knows the Retpus are kinda a hodge podge of different ideas stuck together and it works. You have your dragonmen, your snakes, your trolls, and your overgrown cows all in a mess together. I was thinking for a long time that there should be 3 sublists (duh, dragons, snakes, trolls) but after thinking about it for a long while, I think that it really comes to two (dragons and snakes) as the trolls and other solos for the most part fit in both themes.

Several faction SAs came to mind as I brainstormed, but the one that kept sounding better and better to me.. REGENERATION... It fits all three, dragons, snakes, and trolls. And since 80% of the faction so far are single track models it is not too powerful. But, the idea is simple, under certain sublists, models regenerate 1 point per turn.

Anyway, my fingers are hurting from all this typing, so I will let people share comments and ideas regarding..

Please keep it constructive and related to REPTUS.

Some spell concepts that I had thought of. Saying it now so that it wont be an issue, some of these other people have since mentioned in other threads. Not trying to steal their thunder, but these were onesI came up with myself well before reading any of those. So, please dont get mad if I list something you have talked about recently, this is not about trying to take crdit for anything simply sharing my ideas on some spells for Reptus:

cleric -

REDIRECT - defensive spell, it does not dispel an attack spell, but rather redirects it. The new target point is 1D6 + the casters CP in inches in any direction other than directly back at the original caster.

SHRINK - non attack spell. roll 1D6 to see how many turns it lasts, but of r purposes of LOS and combat, it reduces the base size of the target model by one for the duration.

SWAMP MIST - roll 1D6 for number of turns the mist will last. At the target point, a thick fog like mist will gather, giving heavy cover to all attacks ranged or melee that occur thru it. The height level of the mist is equal to the cp of the caster divided by 3 rounded up.

SCALES - gives deflect to all models inside of AOE for period of one full turn

mage -

CHOKING GAS- anyone inside the AOE will cough and choke and take 1 point of damage. They will also lose any combat actions as they try to find air for their lungs. Anyone that succeeds in their roll will not take damage but still lose the attack actions.

MIRROR IMAGE - for one turn the target model gets a mirror image, increasing its DV+1 as it confuses the enemy, as well as increases its MA +1 for the extra attack by said mirror image. No physical model is used to represent this image.

HOLE - at the target point a pit hole in the ground will open up causing all within the AOE to fall in. No damage is done, but each must roll 1D6 divided by 2 to determine how many turns it will take to crawl out of the hole. Although the true depth of the hole is not consequential since the it is a magical pit, treat as a level 2 deep hole in terms of LOS in terms of people doing ranged attacks into or out of the hole. Those inside can choose to just sit there and do ranged attacks if they want.

I think the Hydra needs to be a 4 track model, but have the stats do something a little different. The Hydra would only start off with one attack, to represent the fact that it only has one head. Then, after one wound, it has two attacks!! :bday: Granted, the MAV will continue to drop with each wound!! Now, by the time it gets to its fourth damage track, it will now have 4 attacks! With Warmaster! At a whopping MAV 1!

I would love to see a model like that!

I Like the Idea of the swift strikers but the Fire breathers seems like they would be worth to many points for only 2 rav.

I wouldn't mind seeing a flying reptus adept. It just seems like it would fit the dragon theme.

WB, that is actually how I came up with my whole REGENERATION theme of faction SA. It would make sense that Trolls and Hydras and even Basilisks would regenerate. Even dragons.

Although I do not like the idea of 4 attacks at MAV1, I can say I went thru several thoughts similar to what you are saying. I was it would be cool if.... well lets take that 4 heads at MAV1, now lets say he survives the round. Next round he regenerates 1 point, now he has 4 attacks at MAV whatever the next level MAV is. and so on. Or say he gets to his last track and has those 4 attacks at MAV1, then a cleric CURES him, now he has 4 attacks at two levels higher.

Yes, I thought about those type ideas. Just didnt think that Reaper would add something like that into the game since it doesnt completely work in the RAGE system I dont think because I am not sure how you would point value it. Would you value it at full strength with a single attack, the last track with multiple attacks, or the possible fully restored healed with full attacks?

So, instead I was concentrating on streamlining him and gave him warmaster and 360 for the idea of multiple heads. But, believe me, if Reaper would do something like that I would go for it. If that were the case I would say start with a single attack at like MAV5-6

Seems like Brog is Krung++

Well, you are right to a point, except a couple of things... Krung is slow, clumsy, low attack, low discipline, low DV for such a point hog. Only part about Krung I like is that he has more than 2 tracks.

I dont expect Reaper to ues my idea, but if I had my choice, this is closer to what I would hope for in our uber solo (unless of course they come out with some new SA that is just too cool a match).

I Like the Idea of the swift strikers but the Fire breathers seems like they would be worth to many points for only 2 rav.

well I also thought about them as RAV1 (again RAV2 in PB range) but with an AOE instead of blowthru. Again with the very low range, I was hoping that would help keep them to about 35 points or so. So if you had a 35 point short range archer basically but the ability to affect more than one target at that short range. The ability to punch thru 2 deep lines or something like that. At least that is what I was going for.

I wouldn't mind seeing a flying reptus adept.

Believe me, I have thought of half a dozen different dragon flyers, snake burrowers, and all sorts like that. I just posted a limited set of my ideas. But, one thing I can say is that after playing the game for over a year now and playing different people that have flyers, I like them but to be completely honest I have seen flyers more often than not have too many problems for their points.

I've said it before, but since this is my pet idea for the reptus, I'll say it again.

I want a cleric warlord with innate iceshard, or maybe a 10" version of Iceshard. He/she would be the high priest of Payanak, the ancient dragon. It just makes sense for the high priest of a draconic god to be able to roast stuff. It would even be possible to keep a reasonable price on this guy. The other cleric warlords seem to be cheaper than average, so giving this guy a short range blaster might only put him up in the 300-350 points range.

It would also be cool to see a temple guard sort of unit. Think lupine ragers, but with a move of 5 and a dv of 11 or 12. They could be made to be like slightly wimpier versions of the khonger. Taller than the average lizard, with big shoulder plates (so that they will have armor similar to his). They would serve the same roll as the shield maidens or crimson knights in other armies.

Edit: I almost forgot. Instead of another troll, I'd like to see an "avatar of payanak" as our big expensive solo.

I really think the Reptus could be a huge army for Soldier models with powerful special abilities.

I'm tempted by the notion of Pit Fighter adepts with MAV 2, 2 attacks, and Warmaster. Essentially mini-Ra'ams. But it might be unrealistic, as they would likely top 45 points.

Reptus Pitfighters (Adepts)

#MA...#RA..Dmg..Mov..Dis..MAV..RAV..DV..CP...MD

...2...............0.........5.....5.......2...............10.........10

Special Abilities: Tough/1, Warmaster

By far my favorite idea is Nagendra adepts with First Strike, they are snakes after all, and snakes strike quickly. Simple, but I think they would be really fun.

Nagendra (Adepts)

#MA...#RA..Dmg..Mov..Dis..MAV..RAV..DV..CP...MD

...2...............0.........6.....6.......2................9...........10

Special Abilities: 360, First Strike, Runner/2

Not sure I like the idea of the Fire Drakes, but only because the Nagendra are getting Poison spitters if I remember correctly, and I can only assume they might have a short ranged attack.

I'd love to see a 1/2 Dragon, 1/2 Reptus Warlord or Solo, and I certainly wouldn'd be adverse to seeing several Dragon Type models. The notion of small Dragon Solos on Cavalry bases is very appealing to me.

If Reaper wants to avoid the Dragons, I think it would be pretty great to see a Coatl as an Avatar of Payanak. The feathers around T'Kays neck have always made me think of that sort of connection.

The biggest problem with dragons themselves is our typical D&D dragon concept makes them Flyers, and gives them a breath weapon. And in Warlord Flyer + Ranged attack is a no-no. So Dragons would have to lose one of these abilities. Or you could have a special ability that forced a Dragon to Land in order to use it's Breath weapon.

I defintely do NOT want anything in that point range. If you noticed my theme up there... streamline to its roll. That is to say, I dont have a problem with a Cleric Warlord, in fact that would be cool. But, if its going to be a cleric, make it a cleric and maximize its cleric points (kinda like the witch queen is maximized as a mage and not a fighter mage).

cool to see a temple guard sort of unit

I disagree but really only cause the Nefsokar already have that. I don't want to copy cat other factions. Same reason I dont want an Avatar either. I want Reptus to be Reptus. We are not lifeless rocks, we are dragons (and trolls, and snakes, and .., and..., he he).

A troll was not necessarily my first idea for an uber solo, a dragon was. But the troll fit the simple melee uber Uru frame that I was looking for. I did come up with a dragon idea, and although cool, it hurt itself by being too multi taskal. Trying to maximize in too many different areas and have lots of cool SAs, well they cost points. Nothing wrong with that, and Reaper will probably go that direction. I was just offering my ideas on a more maximize your roll type of solo.

By far my favorite idea is Nagendra adepts with First Strike

Nagendra with first sstrike... that is a great idea. Have no idea how much the cost would be but I like that one.

I'm tempted by the notion of Pit Fighter adepts with MAV 2, 2 attacks, and Warmaster

Well, Nagendra Rangers have the first two aspects of that. I dont know how much warmaster would cost to add there, but since I dont think the Rangers are worth it as they are now, my only thing to add to this would be they would need to have a decent DV in there too. I would prefer to pay 44-45 points for something similar to the Lupine Rager version of a Nagendra Ranger. 2 tracks, 2 attacks at Mav3, mov 7, dv10. than I would pay 30-ish range for something not capable of staying alivelong enough to get to battle, course if I could pay 35-36 and get those stats just as a 1 track model, that would be ideal to me.

I wouldn't mind a Pit Fighter adept with 2 tracks, Tough/1, and Bloodlust/2 rather than the aforementioned Warmaster ones. Certainly you couldn't have both (2-tracks, and Warmaster), but one or the other would be nice. Something to set them apart from the Crimson Knights and Justicars would be nice, if Reaper went the 2 track route. Mov 6 would help...And while I like the idea of 2 attacks, they start to become alot like Ragers

Reptus Pitfighters (Adepts)

#MA...#RA..Dmg..Mov..Dis..MAV..RAV..DV..CP...MD

...2...............0.........6.....5.......2...............10.........10

...2...............1.........3.....3.......1................5...........5

Special Abilities: Tough/1, Bloodlust/2, Breaker, Marshwalker

We're reaching into the Realm of very pricey models at this point.

Oh, your Captain is missing a damage track, I assume so anyway. Although his degredation pattern doesn't fit with either a 2 or 3 track model with those starting stats(aslo Basilisk degredation of DV should be 10-8-5 as well)

I had the captain as a 2 track on purpose. Save points and dont waste a track with MAV1 that is rather useless to me anyway.

aslo Basilisk degredation of DV should be 10-8-5 as well)

I cant remember rightnow what model I used to build the Basilisk by, but that is the exact degradation said model had.

The one thing I've wanted reptus to have for over a year, Giant black spider mounts!!!!!!!

Come on, they're from the swamps, have you seen how big the bugs get out there?

I think something like:

#MA...#RA..Dmg..Mov..Dis..MAV..RAV..DV..CP...MD[/b]

...1...............0.........7.....7.......4...............13.........13

...2...............1.........6.....6.......3...............10.........10

...3...............2.........4.....5.......2................7...........7

...4...............3.........3.....4.......1................5...........5

SA: 360, beast, tough/3, warmaster

When it gets healed it's muscles tense and... POP!! One of its extra heads just falls off.

As for regeneration to make it not over powered: must give up both actions in order to heal one point of damage, all models in base contact may make defensive strikes (at improved DV) at the regenerating model.

In my head I see it as a painful experience, involving a lot of arm flaying, convulsions and ground punching, as a wound that should of taken months to heal stiches itself back together in a matter of seconds. And of cause the enemy will take full advantage of this momentary weakness.

The first striking snakes, love the idea. single track, DV:8, no tough, Mov:7 or runner. Very, very fast but if they don't take the enemy out they're probable won't survive.

I'd like to see some Payanak born "equipment". The equipped model is closer to Payanak then others and as such still retains some of the gods awesome might. One giving the 4" RAV:2 blow though, One giving it the SA:Horrid, or SA:beast

Edit: As funny as it would be a general rule of thumb is that if it doesn't have scales it won't quite fit (unless it's a troll ^_^ )

Reptus Captains second track should be as follows:

Mov 3, Dis 4, DV 6, MD 6

That makes your 2-Track Captain alot more vulnerable.

Each statistic in Warlord degrades the same for every model that shares that value, and that number of damage tracks. Degredation follows an exact pattern in this game.

All 3 Track MAV 4 models have a 4-3-1 degredation for example. We've never seen an official model that had a 4-3-2 or 4-2-1 decrease. The same goes for every statistic for every. If you know the 1st track of a model, and how many tracks it has you can infer exactly what each of the tracks look like, there is no variance in any of the published models that I can see (I could be wrong). Previous to the 1.2 Datacards there were a few exceptions (mostly in discipline) but I think these have all been streamlined now.

I'm not saying don't throw up models outside this pattern, but if you want the model to be as close to what you might actually see in the game in the future following the standard degredation is probably the way to go. Especially since I believe Reapers points calculations are based on these standard decreases.

Sorry if I sound smug, I'm not trying to be, I'm only trying to be helpful. The ideas posted are very decent.

My only comment is what is the justification for giving your 2 Track Captain 2 Elite slots? There are only a couple such Captains in the game, and the thought of another Andras type in play is a bit frightening. Do you see the Reptus as eventually being Elite heavy like the Overlords?

I'm not adverse to 2 Elites on a Captain, but on a non-unique Captain it is hard to say. So far only Kentaur, Ammat, and Andras have this ability. Kentaur and Ammat are expensive and Unique, your Non-Unique Captain would be cheaper even than Andras because of his 2 tracks.

It would however be good compensation if the Reptus were to get a cleric Warlord, as all 3 of these that we have seen only have 1 Elite slot.

Just some thoughts. Not trying to butt heads or anything.
