"I ain't sech a bad climber. I jest din't wanna show ye up in front o' yer mates", she says with a laugh. While the others take their turns coming down, Anny retrieves a bit of rag from her sack and carefully wraps her bleeding hand.

 

While they all wait for Vieta and Shefton, Anny shows Heleger, Tolan and Yarrin her light crossbow. "I'm a right-good shot... even better if th' poor sod don't see me first." She pauses. "But since ye saved me arse. I won't shoot any of ye... even if some of ye do deserves ter be shot once inna while."

 

Anny looks up the shaft for a moment, puzzled. "Wonder wot's 'oldin up Mister Pistol an' 'is 'alf-elf chum."

Initiative Roll- 10 (7+3)

 

"Arrgggh! You son of a... aggh!" Vieta shouts.

 

Vieta grunts, falling forward to his knees and clutching the back of his head, but quickly, he shakes the pain off and spins around, one hand drawing his cutlass and the other his gun. Still on his knees, he cocks his pistol and takes a shot at whoever hit him.

First Round

 

Vieta

 

You spin around to see who clocked you in the back of the head, your vision is blurry, but you make out a human male, that looks very similar to the the painting in the Vanderboren dining hall, Vanthus Vanderboren! He has Light brown, short cropped hair. A thin mustache & a trimmed goatee. His eyes thou, look different, they are more red & bloodshot then the picture, not to mention under his eyes is darker. Overall, he looks different as well. Your not sure how to put it but he appears "darker & there is just something not right about that guy" feeling then what you'd expect.

 

As you try to gain your wits, he quickly strikes with the weapon he is holding, a sap. You see the man knows what he is doing with the weapon & smacks you across the face with it, for 7 more pts of nonlethal damage. As he strikes you, he yells, "Shefton, now!!"

 

 

Anther blow to your already ringing head, but your able to line up a shot before he backs away & you fire! "BOOM" the old pistol goes off & the bullet flies toward Vanthus, it strikes him in the shoulder & out the back. "ARGHHH" he screams, dropping to the ground, clutching the wound. "You'll pay for that, dirteater" Vanthus shouts to you.

 

Suddenly, the other man, Shefton is upon you, wrestling your arms behind you. (He is starting a Grapple attack: Make a Attack of Op roll vs Shefton)

Anny turns an ear toward the upward shaft and tries to have a listen and figure out what is going on up there.

Vieta, feeling Shefton reaching for his arms, grins wildly. He tries to shake himself free and turns with another spin, bringing his cutlass down on his foe in retaliation.

"Wha's takin' tha boy so loong?" Heleger grumbles, staring up the shaft. "Vieta, get a move on! We ain't gut all day!"

As you keen a ear up to the surface & listen, your greeted by a faint boom that echoes down the shaft. You know that Vieta carrys a pistol & he has probably used it. (You fear the worse for poor ole Shefton)

 

Vieta

 

AoO successful -- As Shefton grabs your arm holding the pistol, you spin out of the hold & then take a wild swipe at him with the blade, it connects , slashing the half-elf across his cheek. (doing 8 pts to him). "Aghhh" he screams, grabbing the wound. He falls backwards & steps into the open shaft. In a instant, he disappears from sight as he falls down the hole, screaming the entire way down.

 

Next round

"You can join him, cur!" Vanthus quickly take advantage of you turning your back for a sec & kicks you in the side, trying to force you in the open shaft. He attempts a Bull Rush move on you. Vieta, How many total hps do you have? If you have 21, then you are staggered as the nonlethal damage is equal to your current amount, thus you are staggered (A staggered character may take a single move action or standard action each round (but not both, nor can she take full-round actions)), if you have less then 21, then your unconscious & I need edit this attack. If your conscious Make a AoO attack on him.

 

 

Group

 

Anyone listening upwards hears the fight between Vieta & anther person, but suddenly Shefton falls down the shaft & hits the floor with a sickening thud, breaking his neck upon impact. You see the man hasn't suffered any gunshot wounds, but he does have a open oozing slice across his cheek.

Vieta, his head throbbing from the two consecutive blow, tries to turn back and finish off Vanthus. When he sees the nobleman attempt to kick him, Vieta tries to counter, slashing away wildly and inaccurately with his sword.

"WOT TH'...?!", Anny starts, then quickly steps aside and out of the path of the falling Shefton. ".. 'e went right on an' snuffed 'im!"

 

As yet unaware of the half-elf's motives, but equally uncertain of Vieta's, Anny approaches the fallen man with the intent of offering aid or at the very least hear what his last words might be. She keeps her left palm (the uninjured one) on the hilt of her dagger.

You check to see if Shefton is alive, but the way his head is aligned with his body, you don't think he'll be up for a chat anytime soon. Either he was dead from the slash on the face (not likely) or the broken neck (probably).

Heleger

 

"Ah, BLEEP! What the hell has the kid down this time. Seeing, the wound on Shefton, Heleger snaps his axe into the holder on his backpack. "I'm goin up there. I'll see what is goin on with him & maybe slap some sense into 'im!" With that the dwarf starts to climb the rope back to the surface.

 

Vieta

 

You try to counter the man's kick, but he is too quick for you, trying to slash with your blade, at the same time your back foot slips closer to the edge of the shaft, almost to the point, where your heel is over the edge, & the tip of your boot is barely on the edge (the result of the roll of 1).

 

His foot connects with you, pushing you backwards. (Make A Str check now, at a minus thou due to the un-stability of where one of your feet are now)

While Helegar climbs the rope, and barring any strong objections from the other members of the party, Anny begins to search Shefton's body for valuables and any weaponry that can be of use to her. If she comes across any written correspondence, she will pass the item or items along to a more formally educated and literate member of the party, suspecting such items might be important.

"Oh damn... damn... DAMN!" Vieta mutters, waving his arms wildly as he tries not to fall into the hole.

Vieta

 

"Bye, bye worthless cur!!" Vanthus says as his foot connects with your mid-section. His kick just barely connecting with you, but enough to push you backwards & into the shaft. As you disappear from his sight he shouts down at you "Say hello to Penkus's ghost for me in the afterlife." The thing that sticks in your mind about Vanthus is his eyes, they seem to burn with a reddish glow.

 

Falling the first 15 feet of the shaft you feel the rope intertwining with your flailing arms, you lose one of your weapons, (choose which one) as the rope whips past you. You can attempt to make a STR check to grab ahold of the rope as it skims through your arms, thou you'll have to drop the other one to make the check at no modifiers.

 

Below you, you think you hear someone say.....

 

"AH S"BLEEP"!!!" Which obviously comes from Heleger who is climbing the rope & has gotten about 10 feet from the floor. (The underground room has a 8 foot tall ceiling, so about 2 feet above the underground room).

 

As you fall you can see Vanthus's form at the top of the shaft getting smaller, & smaller as you fall.

 

Anny

 

Looking over the dead half-elf, you only find a few coppers, maybe a silver piece, thou rummaging in anther pocket you do find the gold coins that Heleger gave him at the Plucked Parrot earlier. If he was using the story of being a poor person looking for food & a roof over his head he wasn't lying about that. Other then the leather armor (bad shape) & a dull dagger, no notes or nothing informative on him. As you finish up with Shefton, you hear a "AGHHHH!!!" come from the top of the shaft, & it sounds like it getting closer.

Vieta, rather dying than letting go of his grandfather's pistol, clings to the gun like a holy talisman, holding it to his chest with his right hand as his left hand flails, desperately trying to catch the rope.

 

His lucky cutlass, however, is left plummeting to the dark depth below.

I swear, by the tides, when I climb back up, this bearded arse-lick is gonna die...

Vieta

SUCCESS!! You let the cutlass go & grab ahold of the rope with the free hand. The rope burns into your hand but you hold firm as you only slip anther 2 feet before stopping, dangling in the semi-darkness of the shaft, your feet disappear into the dark, thou you see the shape of Heleger close below you. Above is dimly lit from the open air shaft. You were able to stop without damaging any muscles in your arm & you steady yourself enough to stuff the pistol into the top of your pants. Afterwards you grab ahold of the rope with the other hand.

 

Your safe for now, thou you see Vanthus leaning over the side, he starts speaking to you (All right below the shaft can hear this) "Lucky SoB, I must admit that. Also I must thank you thou. You save me the trouble of offing ole Shefton. Funny, how irritating, a "lamb" is after awhile." Afterwards, he puts his arms behind him & gives you a noble's bow. He drops to one knee & shouts down to you, "Oh & if you get of there, which I highly doubt it, one word of advice for you & your punk friends, STAY AWAY FROM MY SISTER!!"

 

He leans over into the shaft a bit, you see a flash of light in the air, as he produces a dagger & he bends over to the rope, you start to feel vibration in the rope, he severs the rope!

 

"Cripes!" Heleger shouts out as the cutlass clinks off the sleeve of his chainmail. "What are you tryin to do!! Damn yah!!" he shouts out to you Vieta, not seeing Vanthus at the top of the shaft. "Who the hell is up.....oh crap!!" Heleger is cut in mid-sentence as the rope gives way, the heavy dwarf landing violently on the hard floor (he takes 3 pts of falling damage, the fall being cushioned a bit by Shefton's corpse)

 

Vieta, you fall a little over 10 feet for 5 pts of damage, as with Heleger, your fall cushioned as well by Shefton, thou landing on the dwarf hurt thou. & are now on top of Heleger. As you hit the ground, you can hear Vanthus laughing & saying "Oh what a riot!! Ow! Ow! Laughing makes my shoulder ache, but it's worth it!!"

 

Anny

 

Suddenly a cutlass lands close by to you, it lands on it side, being deflected by Heleger in it's descent. If not, it might have landed where you were standing. Suddenly Heleger hits the ground & then Vieta, along with the rope, you see it has been cut & now get a clear view of a young man, dressed in noble clothing. He has brown, short cropped hair & a fine mustache & goatee, & he is laughing.

 

"Get off me!!" Heleger says to you Vieta as he tries to pull himself out of the body pile.
