A Tide arrises......

Recommended Posts

Anny moves herself out from immediately below the shaft as soon as the cutlass almost lands on her, thus saving herself the indignity of being found dead with the man (or dwarf, or both) on top. That was not how she planned on dying.

Once it seems nothing else will fall on her head, she takes a look up the shaft and gets a brief glimpse of Varthus.

"Wot'dja do ter 'is sister?", she asks Vieta, suspecting this is all to do with him and the dead half-elf. "An' which of ye kilt Shefton?"

As Anny begins her inquisition, she moves in to help the human and dwarf disentangle themselves from one another and get to their feet.

Vieta groans as he struggles to his feet. Holding his head, he starts grumbling, and soon his grumbling can be heard as loud yells of insults. He trashes to his feet, pulling away from Anny as he yanks at his powder horn. He violently pours powder and slams a bullet down the barrel of his gun, violently slamming the hammer into firing position with his other hand's palm.

"You're gonna die, you bearded little sack of elf! I'll kill you! I'LL KILL YOU, YOU BASTARD!" Vieta roars up at Vanthus, one crazy ex-noble to another.

Not even caring if he's out of range, he aims up the shaft at Vanthus, and with one eye shut, fires the pistol at the nobleman.

Yarrin moves over into the circle of light from the shaft and looks over his companions. He quickly realizes that Shefton has passed from this world and tries to see how hurt they are (Healing check:18). "By Procan's wrath what happened up there?" he asks as he looks over Veita's wounds the soft glow of Procan's healing flows from his hands (Cure Light Wounds).

Anny gives Vieta some space as he angrily reloads his pistol and begins to seriously wish she had just bought the lads a few rounds of drinks and then gone on her merry way elsewhere.

Looking at the dead half-elf, Anny partially confesses to Tolan, "I think I best tell ye, I don't remember this tunnel much at all. This island's fulla tunnels. Might've been some other tunnel. They all look ther same if ye ask me."

Anny watches Yarrin as he tries to magically heal Vieta's wounds and contemplates her injured left hand. Afterward, she approaches the cleric, shows him her bandaged hand and says to him, "If ye could patch up me 'and while yer at it... it ain't much good fer gettin' us outta 'ere like this."

"Git offa me, if'n ya ain't deed!" Heleger shouts as he struggles between the two bodies. When Vieta jumps up and shoots up the shaft, the dwarf is flabbergasted.

"Doon' shut tha' thin' in here, yoo big doomy! Yoo cood cause a coolapse! Now, what in tha woorld went oon oop there?"

You see that the damage is mainly just bruises from the fall, & in Vieta's case, crashing into the armored dwarf. You heal Vieta for 4 pts of damage. Also, Anny's injury looks like it only would require a proper healing check to speed the healing (Successful HEAL check will negate the penalty).

Vieta

Vanthus's laughter suddenly stops as you cock the pistol back. Not wanting to get hit again, he disappears from sight. Not for long thou, as he slams the trapdoor shut, plunging the chamber into darkness. A few minutes later, you hear something slam atop the trapdoor, as loose dirt falls down on you. Again anther slam against the trapdoor, & anther. Vanthus has put something heavy on top of the door, sealing it off from the outside.

Those with being able to see in the dark see this, & if a torch is lit, this is what is seen:

The door at the end of the passage is a simple wooden door, but it has swollen due to moist air.

As everything goes dark, there is silence, broken when Vieta says, with an echo:

"That son of a b*tch..."

Not being able to see much, he uncocks his pistol and holsters it, then slumps down on the floor, the injuries from battle getting to him. He sits there on the dirt floor, propped against the wall, weakly patting around him, remembering that he dropped his cutlass and now tries to look for it but too lazy and tired to commit to a search in the dark.

"Anybody got a light?" he asks, then after a pause...

"Hey shortie!" he calls out in the dark to Heleger. "You alright, mate?"

Anny watches Vieta search for a while, then casually leans over and picks up his cutlass, it being perfectly visible to her half-orcish eyes.

"It's right 'ere, ye blind idjit, but first, ye can tell us wot 'appened up there."

As soon as she finishes speaking, she quickly tiptoes from the corner in which she had been standing to another corner of the room, lest he decide to throw something in the direction of her voice.

"What happened?" Vieta repeats, his voice sounding extremely irritated and thus oozing with sarcasm.

"I'll tell ya what happened. Some street rat elf led us right into a trap and told us to climb down a dark hole in the middle of the nowhere. All of us cheerfully climbed down said hole in the middle of nowhere, and then good, noble Vanthus Vanderboren comes out of nowhere and closes said hole on us."

Vieta groans, shifting himself in his sitting position, then tries to adjust his eyes to the darkness if possible.

"Ahhh." Vieta sighs with delight. "Nothing like pure darkness to make a man feel certain that he's thoroughly f**ked. Now what?"

Looking around the room and the passage, Tolan comments, "Well, given that the route we came in is closed to us, the only way forward would be through that door ahead. Looks a bit swollen though, so it might take a bit of effort to open."

"Wonder wot's waitin' fer us other side of it.", Anny thinks aloud. "Prolly ain't gonna find Cap'n Bellaguses' bleedin' biscuit-barrel. An' I'll lay ye a bet wot'ever it is, it's got sharp teef an' it's 'ungry."

Regardless of her trepidation, Anny goes to have a closer look at the door. She is looking to see if it ipens toward her or away, whether it seems to have a proper lock, if there are any cracks in or around it, and if so, what sort of air is moving through those cracks.

Vieta pushes himself to his feet, and stands leaning against the tunnel wall, waiting for a torch to be lit. He clutches his head, still dizzy from the two consecutive blows to the head. Trapped, he wonders if he will make it out alive this time, and wonders suddenly what his family is doing.

He realized that in all the excitement he had forgotten to pay them a visit.

"Well damn..." he mutters, shaking his head.

Yarrin turns to the half orc and takes her hand in his "My pardons m'lady let me take a look at that." (Healing: 15)

Yarrin chants softly and lets Procans blessing flow healing Anny as well. "I'm not sure what all happened but I know that these tunnels aren't the place for us to be."

Before she goes to have a look at the door, Yarrin takes a moment to heal her rope-burned hand.

"S'much better now..", Anny says rather sheepishly, taken somewhat aback by Yarrin's unexpected compliment. "... an' fankyverrymuch, milord." she adds with a smile. "Ye won't be in 'ere much longer.", she reasssures him, gesturing toward the door.

Then she remembers Vieta. "Got a spare torch on ye, Varrin? Yer nightblind mate din't bring 'is own."

Yarrin

You lite up the torch to get a better look at the Anny's injury, with your examination you see it only require some herbs that you have in a pouch & a carefully wrapped bandage to fully heal. (no need to use a heal spell). After seeing Vieta is ok, other then a few bruises, you wave the torch around to get your bearings (basically what I've described to everyone that can see in the dark).

Vieta

The presence of the torch, doesn't change your mood, but at least now you can see the room (or tomb, the way your feeling right now) that Vanthus shoved you down into. (Depending if Anny left your cutlass where she found it---your blade is in the corner near the the shaft towards the surface). While sore & a bit woozy from the blows that Vanthus did, your physically fine. You could tell he knew what he was doing, as those blows seemed to hurt. Unless the jerk had something other then lead shot in that sap he was using.

Anny

Making your way past Vieta without knowing you moved (with him in the mood that he is, the blows to the back of the head & the pitch blackness of the room, no need for a roll). You make your way down the tunnel, as you get out of the radius of the torch & you hit the corner of the tunnel. Your darkvision kicks in again & you see the entire tunnel is made of bricks like the initial room you started in, & of course all moist thanks to the humid air in the tunnel.

You make it to the door. You see it made of wood, thou as you touch the door, your fingernail make a "squish" sound as the wood is very soggy & swollen, as you see the door has filled the gap at the top & most of the sides, thou the bottom has a small crack still that allows you look beyond the door. You get down on your knees & peek out the door, silently, just in case something is by the door. Looking through, not much thou, only a hallway that is at least 10 feet wide. The air coming from the crack is also humid & moist, just like the air inside the tunnel & the room. There is something in the air, a foul order but you can't place it thou, the soggy smell of the door conflicting with whatever flows on the air current.

You quickly stick your fingertips out the crack & notice, the door is only about a inch thick. Probably can break down is given enough pressure. As you get up, you see there is no keyhole to this door, only a door ring that would pull the door inward.
