Base is done with cork. As I told a friend, I think I looked at more coral reef pictures over a 24 hour period working on her than I did in the previous 24 years. Tail is in Createx Airbrush paints (used with my kolinsky, though), blade aside the rest is in the Reaper good stuff. :;):

Wow, I LOVE it!!! She turned out really great, the colours are fantastic, smooth blendings, her face is just amazing and the Base looks really great too. Only thing I don't like is the sword. In my humble opinion there is no need to put a sword in her hands and also the painting of the sword hasn't the quality like the painting at the mini. I also thought about to paint her with metallics because Fishes also look metallic but I wasn't shure about the idea, now I see that is is an good idea, that looks really great. Can we get a link to cmon? I would like to rate her.

That's pretty cool and I really like that base. Could've maybe put a few things in there to simulate seaweed or something to give it a real underwater feel, but it's still great. Nice skin tone and the manta ray looks great. Very nice work.

Seweed and reefs usually don't go all that well together. They are contestants over the same sources of nourishment. An anemone or two wouldn't be wrong though. Beautiful work and your study of coralreefs seem to be paying of!

Pics are better than watching real live ones to, they're hardpresses by clumsy diving tourists who accidentally break them and stuff...

Much better to dive in the baltic sea. No wildlife to disturb since... well there hardly is any :poke:

But that's OK because there is no sight anyway in the murky water so you're not missing what you can't see...

NO no, I'm NOT envious at people who get to dive in warmer climates ::P::poke:

Thank you all.

The sword. Her hand needed something in it with it's pose, I decided to take a different direction than I had seen and accepted that not everyone is going to like it, I knew it when I did it. :;):

On seaweed, anemones, urchins, etc... I was afraid of getting started and not stopping before the "crap-out factor" got crossed.

I thought about bringing the coral up brighter, but I, again, was concerned about taking away from Pearl too much.

I'm already thinking about what colors my next one of this piece is going to be in. :upside:

Oops, forgot to add her cmon link as requested, I just got her up there

The way you painted her looking up makes me think she just grabbed some surface-dweller's sword and is taunting them - "come and get it"

Oh I like that! I hadn't seen her that way yet.

Great job, Orchid! I like the koi color scheme. What did you use for the base? It looks absolutely fantastic. I like the addition of the manta on the base. It really adds an under the sea feel to the mini.

Thanks ::D: The base is cork sheet cut to appropriate shapes, glued together, then ripped apart with tweezers, lots of fun to do. :upside:
